Wha-laaa YBD Elmhurst opened up sometime in October of 2013 and it's almost a carbon copy of their Wheaton location. How can a fitness studio be so spanking clean and fresh? I don't know about the men's locker room, but the women's freaking rocks! Hair dryers, shampoo/conditioner, hair products, HAIR TIES!, I mean you name it and they'll probably have it. It's so clean that I feel comfortable walking around barefoot, which I would never have done at big chain gyms. I've done mainly the level 2 classes, have yet to get in for a sculpt class (my favorite), but the instructors have always been knowledgeable and provides modification for the harder movements. As a CrossFitter I truly believe CrossFit and Yoga are meant to be. My muscles are really tight and sore from CrossFit and although it hurts to stretch them it's a good pain. Yoga allows me to relax my muscles and stretch out all the sore spots. I recommend YBD to all levels of Yogis especially since you can try them out for free for a whole week! They've all taken the time to introduce themselves when I arrive and have sometimes asked about my background in yoga (I am a RYT so it's nice to chat a bit more in depth about yoga with a fellow teacher). The studio not only offers a diverse array of styles of yoga, but they also provide yogis with all the necessary props so we don't have to lug bolsters, blankets and blocks to and from. I've taken their heated classes as well as nonheated and have had a beautiful experience in both climates. The professionals running this business are informative and prompt in their correspondence. The studio is ALWAYS clean, fresh, and perfectly set up for a peaceful, harmonious practice. I often get pulled into the beautiful artwork on the walls as I flow through my practice (which is better than getting distracted by unappealing paint chips or worn out ceiling tiles as I have had the experience in other studios). If you're looking for a new yoga studio in the western suburbs that offers classes for beginners, seasoned practitioners, expecting mom's, teens or children then you DEFINITELY need to get to Ahimsa. Love how many pole, aerial, and dance rooms there are, as well as a kitchen for special events. Everyone was super friendly, to the point where I had to excuse myself from conversation because I was a few minutes late to class. Oops. The instructor helped you get into the poses if needed. I wished he presented them so you didn't have to copy others around you since it is a beginner class, but it's easy to catch on. I have been having back pain for quite some time now. I had tried Iyengar yoga back in Cleveland…read moremany years ago and I remember feeling really good with that style. So when the back pain started I thought let me look for something similar here. I tried a few different studios with different styles but honestly was not satisfied as nobody was giving any corrections or telling us which muscles to engage, and I felt like I was just going through the motions. Then I found Garden of Yoga and started attending classes with Kathleen and Kristen. Both are Iyengar certified and from the very first class itself I felt the difference. No matter how many students are there, both of them will come around, watch your pose carefully, and give individual corrections. They also use props properly to make sure you are doing the pose correctly and not putting stress in the wrong places. The classes are 1.5 hours which gives enough time to actually work on things properly. What also surprised me is how affordable it is compared to other places where I was paying more for just one hour and getting much less. You can genuinely feel that they are doing this to give back to the community, not just for the money. I equally enjoy both Kathleen's and Kristen's classes and I am hoping to continue regularly and slowly become more flexible and stronger. Very grateful to have found this place.

You'd think with all the fitness centers and yoga studios out there, that it wouldn't be hard to find something that fit that criteria for me. Unfortunately, it is. Then I heard about CorePower. I actually heard about CorePower a couple years ago from a friend in Colorado, but there were no studios near me. In the past few year, I've noticed more CorePower studios opening up into the suburbs of Chicago. Finally, last fall, I signed up here for the trial week of free yoga. The first class I took was lovely. The heat was turned up (kind of unexpected -- it wasn't a heated class), the lights were dim, the studio was small, and I left feeling wonderful. I didn't like, however, how the instructor spent most of her time talking & walking around instead of participating in the full workout with us. I guess that's a matter of personal preference, though. She did stop to show us certain poses or to correct us if we needed to fix ours. The class ended with a lavender-soaked cool towel across the forehead. It was so nice. The next few classes I took by different instructors were all very similar. I would have liked a little more variety. Routine is nice, but so is change. Then again, you can only experience so much in a week... This CorePower location is great: clean showers, clean locker rooms (bring your own lock), and a nice little area in the front to sit and relax or buy some [expensive] yoga clothes and accessories. This location also has its' own parking lot (with three-hour free parking) which is a plus in downtown Elmhurst. At least I know I won't have to worry about parking whenever I'm here. As much as I wanted to, I didn't sign up for the membership. Although $100-120 a month (I cannot recall the exact amount) is very good for a yoga studio, it just wasn't in my budget.
