This is a really nice park with an absolutely wonderful view. It is set on Main Street, just before downtown Ventura. It's an old cemetery that they removed the headstones to make it a park. Being somewhat elevated on the hillside, it's a perfect location because from anywhere in the park you have a gorgeous view of the ocean and can see all the way out to the channel Islands. This is a dog friendly park where a lot of people bring their dogs to play and run around. There are some trees scattered about which make for some nice shade, but it's mainly just grass and a parking lot on the side. There are some signs explaining the history of the cemetery- turned -park. It's really a peaceful and relaxing place, whether you go with your dog or not. I recommend taking a blanket so you can sprawl out and take a nap, read, or just sit and enjoy the view.

Beautiful Park with amazing views. It is well used by the community and worth packing a picnic lunch for an hour or two.

This downtown park looks non-descript: a green lawn the size of a city block with some trees and a parking lot. However the park is controversial and possibly haunted. For some reason, the city decided to convert the cemetery (formerly St. Mary's Cemetery, which served the city from 1869 to 1941) into a park while leaving some of the grave markers and human remains. It's odd to see people playing Frisbee and walking their dogs among the grave markers. One of these graves belongs to James Sumner, the recipient of the Medal of Honor for his gallantry during the Indian Wars. There is something disrespectful and odd about the City of Ventura's decision. The park is rumored to be haunted by several ghosts and is one of the stops of the Haunted Ventura tour. I think at least one homeless person lives in the bushes.

it's rather funny that this place is considered a dog park, as I still remember my class running past it every week during High School Gym Class, It's weird to know that a park that once was the resting place (and still might be) for past Ventura residents is now a place where we take our furbabies to play. The park itself is pretty and it's nice to be able to sit and watch my pup play, though she tends to stick close to me rather than playing with other dogs, of course I've always said Lucy was a little tease. :) Side street parking is at busy times it may be hard to find a place to park. All in all a great way to get out of the house, get some exercise and watch your pup play,.

Another gorgeous sunset at Cemetery Memorial Park surrounded by doggies

I love this park, the dogs, and MOST of the people who are educated in dogs and understanding behaviors and training.

This is my FAVE park in Ventura because - IMO - it has everything you need for a great day at the…read morebeach. Let's start with FREE PARKING! Some local beaches are starting to charge, but this one still offers PLENTY of free parking. In addition, there are multiple playgrounds - including a pirate galleon from when the park was established during my childhood, a THOUSAND years ago! It doesn't have the zip line that caused me to smash my leg into the concrete side, leaving a still visible scar 1,000 years later, which is probably for the best, but a kinder/gentler playground with more modern amenities for today's active child. There is also an expansive grass area, where you will find many local pups bounding about with joy. On the grassy areas, BBQs! Also a protected, man made beach cove with an easy enter, small to no wave water entry. Lots of families prefer to set up their space on the green grass and then make their way to the beach, which is an ideal way to have your picnic sand free! A foot shower is also available to rinse the beach off before you settle back onto your blanket. Plenty of benches, tables and a bathroom that is, if I'm being completely honest, acceptable, but could use an upgrade. If you're more active, make your way to the public dock to launch your kayak, paddle board, etc. I've also seen people fishing from this dock and launching remote control boats - so cute! If you haven't brought your own board or boat, there is a rental kiosk handily available. This is also a great park to stroll through. A clear path goes from the parking lot to the tip of the Ventura Harbor entrance, known as Soter Point, where a beautiful sculpture stands. When I think of the perfect beach park, I think of Marina Park in Ventura. Cheers! "CC"

I've spent countless mornings and afternoons here hiking, clearing my head, and getting a great workout in while still enjoying nature. The trails are well maintained with multiple options, so you can keep it light or make it more challenging depending on your mood. The views are beautiful, especially in the early morning or at sunset, and it never feels overly crowded. It has a calm, local Ventura vibe that I really appreciate. I've also brought kids I nanny here for walks and fresh air (sticking to the easier areas), and it's such a great space to reset. One thing to note: when it's hot, be cautious of snakes on the trails--proper shoes and awareness are important. If you're looking for a reliable, scenic place to hike in Ventura that locals truly love, Arroyo Verde Park is a must.

In the middle of the park is the toddler playground and then at the end of the park is the larger playground area for older children. There is lots of grass and a grass hillside. The highlight for me was the toddler playground. I work with children and often like to meet at parks to see their gross motor skills and work on them. This is one of the few parks left I have seen with sand. The park was very clean and even though there were many dogs off leash running around, pet owners were quite aware of where their dogs were and I didn't see any dog poop in the grass. You also can't beat that gorgeous ocean view. I came on a Friday late afternoon when they don't charge a park fee. Big plus!

It was on the coolish side, but the abundance of sunshine made it seem warmer. We had an early dinner down on Main Street. Where we parked there was a sign indicating that the eastern entrance to Grant Park was nearby. We had been up there perhaps only once in the past, and we'd gone in from the west. The drive up in the late afternoon / early evening had the golden glow magic to it. The light was amazing! I was driving and marveling at every twist and turn on the roadway while ascending the hills. The wildflowers and green groundcover from winter's rains made the scenery even more breathtaking than it might be when the grasses start to turn golden instead of green. I was able to drive all the way to the top parking lot, which overlooks the Serra Cross, and the entire Ventura coastline. The view encompasses the pier, the harbor, then beyond out to Channel Islands Harbor, Port Hueneme, and the western edge of the Santa Monica Mountains. It solidified my feelings in that moment of gratitude for enjoying life in Ventura County for the past 40 years. A gorgeous view on a clear day can do that for a person. When a sunny day happens, and the winds are calm, I can recommend taking a drive up to the top of Grant Park to make some of your daily cares seem very small. Looking down on the city / county from on high helped lift my spirits and added joy to my birthday celebrations.

A loved one first brought me here when I was about nine years old, and the memory has stayed with me ever since. Now that he's no longer with me, I find myself returning--not just to enjoy the scenery, but to remember the love he showed me by introducing me to places like this at such a young age. April is his birthday month, and I visited again just last week. I breathed in the scent of fresh lavender, sat in the sun over Easter weekend, and wandered the grounds at my own pace. Every moment of that solitude felt meaningful. Yes, this may sound a bit sentimental--but it really is that special. It's a beautiful place.
