As a nanny, Camino Real Park is one of my absolute favorite parks in Ventura. I've taken multiple kids here over the years, and it's such a great setup for families. What really sets this park apart is that it has three different playground areas, so kids of different ages always have something to do and don't get bored easily. The park is spacious, well maintained, and feels safe, which is huge when you're responsible for little ones. There's also a dog park and tennis courts, so it works for everyone--families, dog owners, and people just looking to be active. I love that it's easy to spend a long afternoon here without feeling cramped. Plenty of space to run around, sit, relax, and let kids burn off energy. Review of the Dog Park portion only: It is fully fenced in and is a pretty large area....large enough to get some distance with your Chuck-It ball launcher. There are plenty of trees to provide shade or - as happened on the day we went - provide shelter from light rain. There was a doggie water fountain: I don't know if it worked because the day we went it was full of rain, and the dogs just drank the rainwater. The few people we met there were friendly, as were their dogs. The only downside is that the bulk of the dogpark is dirt.. -1 star for that. Definitely a great place to take your dogs if road tripping down/up the coast with your pups. Hint: the dog park portion of the great park can be tricky to find. The best way to get there is that when you pull into the park stay on the main road as long as you can (don't pull into any side parking lots) until such point as you hit the roundabout circle at the very very end. Park as close to that circle as you can, and the dog park is just beyond that circle in a fully fenced in area. read more

Camino Real Park is another one of the good parks in Ventura. The park is well kept with lush green grass and a walking path. The parking here is usually plentiful but occasionally gets a bit crowded. The restrooms here are fairly clean. There are many opportunities for outdoor/family/community activities here. The activities range from a sand volleyball court to walking path to tennis courts to 3 children's play areas to a 1 large and 1 small gated dog parks to picnic benches to areas that can be rented through the city for parties. The park also has softball fields which can also be rented out or used through the city for leagues. During softball season there is also a snack-bar which is good for hot drinks, water, seeds, etc. One of my favorite parts of Camino Real is the beauty of the park and the views/smell of the barranca and eucalyptus trees. At some times of the year the Monarch Butterflies are nesting. read more

I moved to Ventura October 2020. Coming from SF Bay Area, I was really excited about the town and its friendly people, the weather, and its recreational facility. THEN I discovered Camino Real Park. I said Wow, eight courts with lights. Met a bunch of local decent players and I was well on my way to be a Tennis Bum. However after a year of playing on these broken up courts, I ask folks when these coach's will be fix. A lot of people of different level play these courts. However it's frustrating to see how a beautiful tennis location has such ugly broken up courts. Ball hits these cracks with weeds growing and creates a bad bounce. Ive always around, but Nobody seems to know when this courts will ever be fix. Three years past, and still no one know when these courts will be resurfaced. Review for the dog park After 2.5 years of adopting our pup, my husband and I finally decided to take him to the dog part for the first time. I was probably more anxious than he was! The park had two division - large dogs and small dogs but it appears that everyone and their dog just ends up in the large dog part. I asked some nice dog owners inside whether I should just go for it off leash and all and they said yes! So there I go, off leash and all and off he went! A bit awkward like a HS student but ultimately, he eased in and enjoyed himself. I am so glad I took him. Park was big and clean and many friendly dogs of all size and shape. Friendly owners. It was great chatting it up as I watch my dog frolicking away! Planning to go twice a month on Sundays as that appears to be a good time frame. read more

We loved taking our Husky puppy to this dog park. We watched him play "tag" with other dogs and chase leaves as wind ran across his thick double coat until we realized he contracted lice from another dog at this location. Please be a responsible pet owner. I have owned dogs my entire life, and have never had this problem before. Check your dogs for parasites before taking them to interact with other dogs, especially if they were from a pound, shelter, or a rescue animal from the streets so they do not become super-spreaders of infestations. Pink eye or conjunctivitis is highly contagious in dogs as well. Don't forget shots being up to date either! It is difficult to get rid of lice from our Husky despite multiple treatments and hundreds of dollars spent on bath treatments, and we cannot shave his fur off since he is a Husky. We will no longer be going to this dog park (even post-lice management). Enough said. read more

I noticed quite a few people commenting on the size of the Small Dog Park. I just wanted to add, that I brought this to the City's attention last May, and over the course of the next 5 months, we got it expanded. If you haven't been there in awhile, check out the Small Dog side, now. Of course I would have liked it even bigger, but am happy with the result. The good news is, it's larger and has shade from Eucalyptus trees. The downside is, since much of the area hadn't been previously used, there are sometimes those little round burrs that can get in dogs' fur/hair. I've been taking my dog to this dog park for while now and I have to say it's been getting run down and not maintained like it use to! I don't know if it belongs to the city or county but tree branches that will stab you in the leg or dog, homeless people sleeping on the benches, and trash all over the park. Not to mention dog poop everywhere from owners neglect. I must say though I do appreciate that they separated the big dogs and small dogs in 2 separate closed off location! I love this dog park. This may be the only dog park I take my Dalmatian to after having a horrible experience at Springville dog park with an incompetent owner of a brown Pitt named Teddy. My dog is a shy dog and because of this we make sure that any interaction he has with other dogs is only positive. Every time we come here there's nothing but friendly dogs with good doggy manners who give my dog space until he feels confident enough to approach and befriend them. It is a nice clean park hidden away off of Dean Drive. Follow the signs and look for the entrance set back off the road. Tennis courts, baseball fields, and shady grassy areas abound. There is a fenced dog park also. The downside is the park backs onto Hwy 126 so the traffic noise level is high. The large dog side is mainly dirt so be sure to watch your step. The small dog side is really small. This park states on the rules that you are to keep your leash on your person in case you must remove your dog. A good idea but my first time seeing it posted. Sometimes the water fountain is out of order so be sure to test it before your dog works up a thirst. Most people show up after nine, early mornings are empty. Great dog park! I've been coming to this park for about a year now and my two dogs love it! The park has very little grassing any, its mostly dirt which is okay but I have a Beagle and a poodle and my poodles fur gets really dirty and dirt and stuff get stuck on her. There are trees where dogs wonder to, the dog park is fenced so it's perfect for them to run off and play! There are I believe two picnic tables and a couple benches around to sit and watch. There are two entrances, one for big dogs and another for small folks. They have a doggie water fountain inside which is awesome! I used to live near this park, so I know much about it. PROS--It's a big park for one in the middle of the city. It has a nice path for jogging or walking. There are 3 areas for kids to play if one gets crowded. Several softball and baseball diamonds. There is a big grassy area for soccer and football when the baseball fields are not in use. There is one basketball and one volleyball court. There are usually enough benches and grills for parties, and there are two very large areas for larger gatherings and big grills. Although, those areas cost nearly $350 to reserve. BUT, if they are not reserved, you may use them for free on a first-come-first-serve basis. There are plenty of tennis courts, although there are many classes and people who go there. CONS--The basketball court is small and not lit. There should be lights for the court, like the tennis courts. The rims get bent, and the nets get torn. Fix them. The snack bar is rarely open, even on weekends. Bathrooms are hit and miss, some are very filthy. There are sometimes issues with transients and knuckleheads who just sit on the benches and drink beer (which is not allowed w/out a permit). The dog park is a terrible addition. It stinks up the park, and not needed. It's for yuppies who are too lazy to walk their dogs. It is a park that I will continue to go to, as I enjoy it very much as well as my children. As always, get here VERY early on holidays if you want to reserve a spot. Also, get here early on days there is a tournament too, as it gets very crowded. read more

Came from out of town with our three Whippets. We stop all the time at various dog parks as we travel and this park was a winner. Very clean, nice wood chips that kept the dogs feet clean as can be, even though we arrived about an hour after a decent rain storm. The 'boys' had a very nice time at this park. Finding it isn't easy. Drive into the park and then keep going as far towards the back as you can to find the dog park. Awesome facility, wish I lived closer to it to use more often. Big shade trees, robust and big dog park fit for sprinters and fetchers. Bring a lawn chair if you plan on being there awhile as the benches are limited within the fenced dog park itself. The small dog area is really just a run, kinda long but narrow, but I guess little dogs don't really need a ton of room. My husky loves it, gets all pumped when I turn into the parking lot. Worst dog park. It's only dirt and debris. The small dog section (for 20 lbs or less) is so tiny. I have 2 small dogs, 10 lbs each, and they have so much energy. They need to run! There is more than enough room to expand that area. And a little grass sure would be nice. I shouldn't have to give my dog a bath just from going to the park one time. This review is for the dog park ONLY: Great park to bring your dogs to when you're favorite dog park is unfortunately closed for renovations. Even though this dog park is closer to me, I don't frequent this dog park due to the fact that basically the entire dog park consist of bark. Bark that makes your dogs feet smell terrible when they get home and also hurts them when they run too hard. My weimaraner loves to run and run fast. After being at this park for 15 minutes, she was walking uncomfortably. I then took her out to the lush grass area and had her walk there before I took her home. This park is so beautiful to walk around... unfortunately they did not seem to think the dogs would also enjoy grass. I honestly think they did this because bark is much easier to maintain than grass. Also, if you have a small dog just know that the small dog area is a joke, it is so tiny and also filled with bark. read more

My dogs love the doggie park so much. It's big and spacious and I love how much it reminds me of being out in the woods. My bloodhound will walk around smelling the trees and always explores the whole section. Everyone I've encountered has been super nice and a responsible dog owner. Even though there is a section for small dogs, I hardly see anyone use it. All the regulars and their small dogs go into the big section. Brought my pup with me on my trip and this dog park was exactly what we needed. He never gets so much space to roam around and there are so many textures for him to explore here. While it was a bit muddy while he was here, it was his paradise with all the puddles, the soft soil for him to dig, and lots of greenery for him to sniff. Great multi-sport/multi-use park. I've been coming here since I was a kid. For a public park the facilities are exceptionally maintained. Tennis courts (all eight of them) are spic and span. The only problem is that it can be hard to secure a court in the evenings when there are league practices and lessons happening. I recommend visiting the tennis center (smallish shed near the courts) to reserve a time. These are the only public lit courts in the city, so if it's packed and after sundown, don't bother driving around to look for other places. Play time costs you about $2 an hour per court. It's a friendly atmosphere and if you're looking to join a league team like USTA, they'll welcome you in from 3.0 on up and encourage you to join the Ventura Tennis Club. If you're new to the sport you will not feel intimidated here. If you're a seasoned pro, bust out your wristbands and get ready for a good time. The park includes three playgrounds, baseball fields (quite popular here, I've noticed), a basketball court, and a sand volleyball area. Your dog will enjoy the dog park at the back of the park where he (or she) can roam freely. On a Sunday afternoon there were at least 20+ dogs here, but mostly very large and sort of rowdy varieties (think, great danes and some aggressive looking mixes that I couldn't identify). There were also plenty of nice, well groomed australian shepherds too. I brought my stepmother's tiny white fluffy shih tzu here one day while babysitting it and Jazz (as my stepmom calls him) being more of a lap dog felt out of place among the athletic canines who clearly rule here. There's a smaller leash free zone off to the side for small dogs, but it was unused when I was there. Camino is located alongside a barranca and in the fall/winter it's a migration area for Monarchs--a gorgeous site to witness if you get the timing right (check the interpretive signs in the park for details). You can also take dog obedience classes here and I've noticed some sort of bootcamp fitness group doing various workouts here as well. What impresses me most about the park is its diversity. Here you'll find people of all ages, backgrounds, and income levels enjoying a broad range of sports (made super accessible), family barbecues, or just taking a nice solitary walk along the pathway lining the perimeter. read more
