For one thing their prices are about $0.20 higher per gallon than the going rate. Second, the first pump I used only dripped out maybe a gallon every 10 minutes...so when I noticed after changing a kid's diaper that I only had 0.53 gallons I had to stop it and go to a different one (that was still pretty slow). Aggravating. I was thirsty but didn't want to give this company a dollar more so I didn't even go in the convenience store portion. Bathrooms are below average. Bottomline: get gas in Salina or Russell so you don't need to be here.

It doesn't look like much from the road, and I had very low expectations from the exterior of the building, but I left feeling like I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover... or in this case a gas station by it's weathered exterior. At any rate I rushed in with my kiddo and found the restroom to be super dated, but honestly comfortable and clean. It had the retro pink tiles that at this point have basically come full circle and I found to be endearing. It was also a super cold day, and the building didn't have great heat in the restrooms so they had a little space heater running, which I thought was super considerate and made it much better for a little stop. Aside from that, the space for sure could use some updates, but it seems to me that it serves as more of a community spot rather than a busting travel center. The folks working all seemed to know people that came in and they were very friendly to me and my daughter. There are signs all over the fountain drink machine about charges for cups, ice, etc. When I say signs, I mean a bunch of signs repeated over and over about the cost of everything- it is a bit obnoxious. There is supposed to be a taco place adjacent/connected to this Travel Plaza and there is a window in the travel plaza convenience store where I guess you would be able to order tacos. This is all shut down/closed. The whole experience is weird. Hays KS is large and there are lots of gas stations and convenience stores- I would go somewhere else. The bathrooms were less than pleasant. Beyond the usual uncleanliness left by other travelers it could be seen that they had not been cleaned or even checked anytime recently. But one makes due when needed. Being that it was very early (4:00 a.m.) we stopped by the cappuccino machine. After dispensing the beverage a looked closer and was appalled at the condition of the machine. Truth be told we got our fuel and drink and we're back on the road in a small amount of time, but we will make sure to go a few miles further down the road next time.
