Keep in mind, this review is 100% based on the skate sharpening service here, and not on the ice or ice rental. Stopped in to the Centennial Arena Skate Sharpening service on Sunday and was a bit surprised, but in a good way. I haven't stopped in a while, but we were heading for the Oval for a skate and my skates were RUSTTTYYYY and not sharpened at all. i called around and most places were either super busy or a bit expensive for the time it takes to sharpen a skate ($10... why??) So I thought, why not stop in here. Firstly, service was great. The guy behind the counter was friendly and talkative, but didn't get distracted from the sharpening. Always good to keep it casual while keeping timeliness in mind. Now for the actual sharpening. Well, the skate sharpening here was a pleasant surprise. Located conveniently at the front door, I didn't have to go searching at all to find them. A nice little heated spot, he was able to get the job done in under 5 minutes and send me on my way. No waiting, no posturing, no anything. In and out. It's hard for me to argue with that! They did a good job, they were sharpened quickly, and they were just what I needed. AND, the real question... HOW MUCH DID IT COST!? Did they gouge me? Nope. At a great price of $5/pair, you just can't get a better deal! You have to pay cash, but it's worth it, without a doubt. Highly recommended if you're tired of waiting in long lines or dropping your skates of hours before they'd be ready, or if you want to pay half the price! read more

Sorry everyone but I really don't enjoy it here... The rink needs plenty of upgrades Zamboni is way to slow and makes the ice way to watery the hallway to the locker rooms is a squisher and horn is way to loud and the seats are very cold but on this other side the canteen is cheap and good watching games is cool but it's just not a 5/5 place and the community has some expensive stuff around it like KFC and Scillian pizza which is gross and more sorry but I would prefer another arena read more

Not my favourite rink in the city. There are bare lightbulbs around the edge of the rink, some of which have been broken. Not so safe for hockey players if a puck shatters a lightbulb overhead! What a wonderful facility for community children to grow up with. This esteemed skating rink is open year round to support figure skating and as well as hockey and recreation skates. Buildings such as this anchor core values from skills acquired by our young that engenders confident and accomplished members for a healthy community. To think that these wonderful buildings are being neglected by politicians and slated for closure in order to support big business sponsorships and contractor profits, that effectively waist tax payer hard earned dollars, and marginalize so many citizens, previously enjoying access to lower cost, neighbourhood friendly recreation centres. I say support is need to retain such appreciated facilities. I say politicians need to start representing working class families. I say stop the corruption of mega projects and start putting money into supporting the existing facilities and the children of our communities. Put moneys into helping parents help their child to a future of personal accomplishments and lifelong skill. Facilities such as the Centennial must remain viable. The integrity of our communities relies much on the continued existence of such centres. We need the commitment of politicians and other community leaders that will deflect the misplaced dependence of corporate sponsorship as "parent". The corporate contempt toward public and civic identity, the greed toward supersizing and exponential growth must be put in check. It is shameful to equate freedom of individuals and the civic collective with such obvious lack of commitment of same on the part of corporate agenda. They now have children as young as 5 plastered with corporate ads in their "efforts" to contribute. These corporations are not our "parents" and most certainly they will throw us in the street when it suits them. Freedom is all about identity and the opposite of corporate ownership. Wonderful buildings such as the Centennial Rink must be kept breathing and supported. Without sincere monetary support from our elected officials and others magnanimous members of our worthy community, we will fast be swallowed up into the depths of an inner city despair and hopelessness. Support the Centennial Rink, support community parents, supports the children. Tax corporate entities appropriately and take back our community.
