Not impressed at all. If I could give 0 stars I would or actually -10. My daughter was referred to an adolescent gynecologist but the wait was so long I decided to look at other options- huge mistake. No one likes going to these kinds of drs especially not a teenager for the first time. Everything about this office was a nightmare, from the check in, the incredibly invasive and unnecessarily awkward questions, the stabbing of a needle into her arms she endured twenty times by an extremely inadequate nurse to get blood and failing miserably. We saw dr hilsinger. All she did was ask questions stare at her face and gave a diagnosis and said she would need to go on birth control pills to control the problem! Well thank goodness an appt popped up at the right drs office. They actually examined her- not just stare at her face. They took blood easily on the first go- they didn't scare the crap out of us and guess what? She doesn't have what the dr hilsinger said she did. I do not recommend this place at all. It was one of the most horrific experiences at a drs office I have ever experienced. Unless you want to be scared for no reason and misdiagnosed for no reason and given the wrong pills for no reason- do not go here!!! read more

I am writing a review for the office in Newport News on McManus. I'm going to warn everyone that I'm going to get a little personal with this review... I was referred to this practice by a friend of mine, and I ended up not being very impressed. I saw Dr. O' Connell while I was a student at CNU. He was nice. Surprisingly, I wasn't weirded out that my doctor was a male, even when he was up in my business. He wasn't overly gentle, so I was usually very uncomfortable there. A couple of times I had a pap that came back with abnormal cells. The first time, he wanted to do a colposcopy. I freaked out. You want to do WHAT with my WHAT?! Yeah. So I had the procedure done. Everything came back fine. But I was told that if the sample came back not looking great, I would have to have another procedure in which cells are frozen off with liquid nitrogen. Umm...thanks for the comforting description. Really....it made me 100% confident that I didn't have cancer. So the same comes back fine. I was told to come back for a pap 6 months later. The same thing happens again and he wants to do another colpo. Really? At this point I was frustrated and consulted my doctor back at home. She told me that normally, she'd just test again a couple of weeks later and that would be the last resort at that point. A colpo should be done when results are consistently abnormal. To make a long story short, I felt like I was being told to undergo unnecessary procedures. It felt sort of like fraud, actually. Needless to say, I stopped going there. I wouldn't recommend it. Doctor's visits are never comfortable, but I just felt nervous and shaky at this place. Such a horrible experience. read more

In was refered to the McManus location after some unexpected finds on my MRI results from an unrelated issue. My Ortho Dr. refered me to The Center for Women's Health. I am glad he did as my entire experience was positive. I loved the ultrasound tech. I was not aware that I would be getting a transvaginal ultra sound ( I ignorantly thought Id be getting a regular ultrasound) and I think she could sense I wasn't expecting it. She made the scan as easy as possible. At no point did I feel awkward. I also love Dr. Hilsinger and her nurse! They were great and answered any questions I had without making me feel rushed. My surgery went well and I am getting my life back to normal. I am glad I was initially refered to this location. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Thom for OBGYN (Newport News location). I went to him back in 2009/2010 and instantly felt very comfortable with him. He is very friendly, informative and makes going to the OBGYN not a dreaded ordeal. I switched doctors due to insurance and just recently returned. I have been there several times and the waits weren't super long and office staff was friendly. read more

I am writing in review of the Newport News office....I was referred to this office by a family member and I wish I had shopped around before making the decision to see any doctor at this practice. First, when I had Pap testing done with abnormal results, it was suggested that I had a colpo done. So they did that, which came back okay but they IMMEDIATELY suggested that I have a LEEP procedure done after I explained to them that ive been through this before and as long as there wasnt any change, I wasnt planning on having anything of that nature done. They received my records from my doctor out of state which showed that there was NO progression of this issue that I was having and how my past doctor monitored me for 3 years. FYI: These conditions does have the ability to revert back to normal. So, over the past year, I felt like the nurses were hounding me to have this procedure and time after time I refused. My husband and I decided to have another baby this year, which we are pregnant now, so that was another main reason I refused to have my cervix scraped away. This year, Nov 2011 returned to the office for an annual visit and guess what?? The pap came back NORMAL, which I figured it would. Instead of monitoring me, this office wanted to perform a procedure that would affect me heavily in the future. So yes, it does seem as if they are really pushy when it comes for an opportunity to make money and I have made the decision to choose another doctor for the care of my pregnancy. Ive also had issues of being charged for services that were not rendered on two occasions! The only trip I will be making back to the Center for Women's Health will be to pick up my medical records so I can get my prenatal care started in another doctors' office. read more

I am writing a review for the office in Hampton. I was very pleased with the way I was treated when I went to this office by the receptionist. She was very patient with me and helpful as I used the computer they provide to fill out all my medical data as the computer was acting a little glitchy that day. Her tone was pleasant and positvie. No one enjoys having to go for a gynelogical exam but my doctor, Dr. Abby Ford Anderson, strives to make you feel at ease with her kindness and positive conversation. She takes time to talk to you before and after the exam and also works with you on finding the medications that are best suited for your needs. I was very impressed when she called me at home to go over some lab results and was just as friendly and willing to take time to answer my questions just as she was in person during my office visit. I am sticking with her as my doctor and therefore I give a good rating to the Hampton Center for Women's Health! read more
