Also adding a advance learning center for the seniors ( this was under construction when i was in school). The community is small, but proud and growing fast paced. Performing arts is top notch the Band has something like 10 straight state titles 12 total i believe along with National championships pretty soon the City will out grow itself and have to build another High school.

There definitely are a few teachers more willing and legitimately care for the kids, but they are outnumbered by those who don't and are actually the ones that are not given many classes :-(. This school is undermined for the demographics in the area, which is an unfortunate bias. I would send my kids here because they would have so many opportunities to learn a and grow. I wished my suburban schools growing up had these vast degree of IB and AP courses.

I've often tried to sift through all our years and determine what they most learned/received at Orchard and if I had to pick one attribute (and there are many), I'd pick confidence. They are all confident public speakers. For example, when my daughter was a junior in high school, she won an award that required her to speak at a dinner with over 400 people present. I tried several times to get her to practice and review her speech in advance, knowing that the previous recipient had a professional speech writer. In frustration, one evening she said, "Mom, I went to Orchard. Don't worry." She delivered a flawless speech without notes. They are all confident about their ability to learn. Orchard likes to say they help create lifelong learners and they do. Each of our children knows how to learn and they like to learn. They are all confident expressing themselves to anyone. In high school, their teachers observed that unlike many shy teens they were not afraid to ask questions and advocate for themselves or for others. And, this has continued throughout their college and post-graduate years. Orchard invites and teaches children how to respectfully approach adults. At Orchard, education is not just about science, English, history, etc. While these are important, it's also about helping develop good people and preparing them for the future.

The lady at concessions was rushing us so it wasn't great customer service. They sell slushes in 2 flavors, red and blue, for $2. I tried the red flavor and it was refreshing, icy and liquidy, just the way I like it, not dry. For $3.50, the pretzel was soft, the cheese had a good texture and taste, and the size was perfect (not overwhelming). It was worth it. Another thing that's good at this concession is the Otis Spunkmeyer Cookies. You get 2 for $1.50, and they are decadent mmm. Pizza is pretty basic and not worth it. The school is easy to find with a clear athletic entrance. Cash and card is accepted for the entrance fee, card is a little more around $8. The gym is large in size, lots of parking but got really packed during the sectional games and was hard to find a parking a spot. Upstairs bleachers has two large fans, we sat up there for a game, and the air from the fan really bothered me, caused my eyes to water badly, I was annoyed.

This was obviously not a new school, but you wouldn't know it from the looks of the interior. Every paint job was top-notch, and it seems as though I could have eaten off the gym floor (although I highly advise against it). So, kudos to the maintenance/custodial staff at Decatur Central. I wish my high school back in the 80's looked half this good.

I went to Westwood for my 5th grade year. It was my first time at a new school, with new people,…read moreand I was just trying to adjust. I was forced to talk about my problems that I had at home in front of a group of girls, if I didn't talk about them I would get in trouble and sent to the principals office. Those girls then proceeded to make fun of me for the whole year about my problems and no one did anything. This school was absolutely terrible, the principal Mr.Ennis was the rudest person I have ever met. It wasn't until recently I realized what they made me do and how horrible my experience was. Please do not send your kids here.
