We've belonged to three ballet studios (we've moved a few times) and have been here the longest. This school impresses me with the level of quality instruction starting with the youngest kids. At a previous dance studio, the "Pre-ballet" or "Ballet I" classes were taught by young college students (and even one high school senior) who were trying to get teaching experience. Here, every teacher we have had has been a professional and has instructed the kids as such. The atmosphere is caring and loving but also fairly serious. You are following in the footsteps of many dancers who have attended the school over 52 years and have gone on to dance careers. The Nutcracker performance sells out at UB every year, and the end of the year recital (also at UB) is an enormous production. This is not the YMCA's music and movement class. They offer ballet, pointe, acro, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, Broadway dance, jazz and tap, as well as adult ballet classes. The cost seems comparable to other dance studios in the area, and there is a discount for families. The school also offers camps in the summer, including a "Princess camp" for girls 8 and younger that seems very popular.

One thing I know about the local demographic circles is that if 1 or 2 people say something the whole town joins in with them. Secondly, I attended here for a few years but continued to take classes elsewhere because it's not for everyone, including myself. I was not diagnosed with a disability but I did have chronic back problems and anxiety from a young age which made the the routines difficult for me to perform and memorize. I do however credit attending David De Marie for preparing me for my relatively successful career in fashion and media that I went on to in my adult life. I recommend at least trying this studio.

Throughout almost the entire season, communication with parents was minimal. As recital approached, there was no dress rehearsal scheduled for the day before the performance, and no communication about that until parents began asking questions during the week of the recital. Even more concerning, no information was provided regarding arrival times, check-in procedures, or what was expected of the dancers throughout the day. The only information parents received came after repeatedly asking, and the response was essentially, "I think 10:30 will work" for an 11:00 a.m. recital. In the entire 9 months my daughter participated, I never learned the instructors' names and never met the owner a single time. That level of disconnect is surprising and, in my opinion, unprofessional for a youth program. As someone who has coached youth programs for several years, I understand the importance of communication with parents--especially when working with very young children. Keeping families informed should be a priority, not an afterthought. I am grateful for the experience my daughter had and the enjoyment she got from dancing. However, I am completely dissatisfied with how this business is managed. It feels as though the owner may be stretched too thin between multiple locations and simply does not have the time to properly oversee and support the Bath location. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this studio. I hope this review helps other parents make an informed decision when choosing a dance program for their child.

Melissa is amazing, and didn't mind taking the extra few minutes to show me how to use the bike, and how everything worked. I love the option of not having a commitment to join the gym, and just being able to drop in for spin classes, as needed.
