He fell HARD for the discipline and artistry there and was offered a scholarship at the end of the two weeks. Despite living an hour and a half south of the city, we decided to give it a try twice a week. Fast forward to this year: he has completed his fifth summer intensive at Neglia and attends class 6 days a week. Yes, we still live 1.5 hours away. My son has discovered -under his excellent teachers at Neglia- that he wants to dance professionally, and there is no one anywhere near us that matches the quality of instruction he gets there. Besides that, the close knit studio environment has made them feel like family at this point! It is for committed individuals who are serious about ballet. The program is rigorous and demanding, but my daughter thrives under these circumstances. Sergio and Heidi are real professionals. They know ballet. They love ballet and they know how to make great dancers. I was skeptical about Neglia being a "family" environment because most dance studios are not, but our experience at Neglia is that it is like family for these girls. They expect a lot , but they give everything thing they have in return. Girls are expected to go above and beyond, but in our family, we live by that rule everyday.

We've partnered with her to teach some special classes for our group and we also have lots of members who attend her group classes and private lessons. Plus, she organizes performances in the community and we are increasingly working to combine efforts on this. Apart from being incredibly talented, Lihann is thoughtful, approachable, and very good at breaking down the material she is teaching. Additionally, she is super knowledgeable about historical aspects of swing dance, which is really interesting to me and a big part of what I want to take away from swing dancing. It's nice to understand how a dance developed and where you fit into that ongoing development. That said, you don't have to be a dance geek to enjoy her classes. Maybe you're getting married or want some exercise or a new way to meet people. All of those are good reasons to check out her classes. And she teaches ballroom style dances as well as swing dances, so if that's your cup of tea then you're in luck. Tuesday nights is country line dancing with beginner lessons at 6PM, intermediate at 6:30PM, and dancing until 9/10 cost $10. My husband and I went for the first time this week. There were about 25 women of all ages in attendance. My husband and I did well with the beginner program, and stumbled through the 88!!! count intermediate program before deciding we needed to watch the You Tube video a few more times at home for that level. The group is very welcoming to newcomers, there are snack bags and water for sale or you can bring your own. I am definitely going back, and to Paula's other class at The Cove on Thursdays, as this will not defeat me. I think the Tuesday evening, and a 1st Saturday country dancing program are the only two regular events at Dry Gulch.
