This location is nestled on the corner of a busy, crowded street. No self-checkout. You have to pay at the register. The customer service was a bit lackluster.

Dunnes' clothes have come along in leaps and bounds over the last few years, I have never experienced any issues with their fresh produce and as to homewares... well, I've never actually had to furnish anywhere before, but I imagine that Dunnes Stores range of soft furnishings are very good at best, and perfectly adequate at worst. This review concerns none of the above. What this very negative review concerns itself with is the hot deli counter in the Dunnes in Stephen's Green. Dunnes normally do a very good deli counter; the one in George's St is extremely nice. However, my experience at the counter in question left a lot to be desired. The hot counter in this particular Dunnes is often running out of stuff, and while this might be expected occasionally, particularly at 2 or 3 o'clock, it is a minor inconvenience at best. What I am about to recount, however, is a heresy in the art of sandwich making, and should shock you to your very core. I approached the counter and asked for a chicken fillet roll. No problems there. Did they get the ratios wrong, you ask, too much mayonnaise or not enough lettuce? No, I could live with that. When asked what I wanted on my roll, I replied lettuce, tomato and grated cheese. To which I received the reply that they didn't do cheese with chicken fillet rolls. I assumed that there was some token additional charge for this extra filling, as cheese is not one of the staple chicken fillet roll fillings (tomato and lettuce for those of you who are interested); vexatious, but not the end of the world. I hazarded this assumption on my part, only to be told that no, it wasn't a financial thing, they just didn't put cheese on chicken fillet rolls. Full stop. When I asked about this bizarre state of affairs, I was told it was a health and safety thing. Now, I appreciate that this poor girl was only doing her job, and I assure you that I didn't take it out on her, but it is a sad state of affairs when a man can't walk into a shop in this great nation of ours and get cheese on his chicken fillet roll. Is what we've come to? Is this what the men of '98 and '16 died for? I ask this as I have been served cheese on chicken fillet rolls the length and breadth of Dublin, and if Dunnes wanted to institute some sort of cheese legal waiver, I would gladly sign. Needless to say, I shall not be giving the deli counter of Dunnes Stores, Stephen's Green my custom in the future.

They also have a €1 corkage on Sunday through Tuesday nights when purchasing wine through their cellar. This ended up being a great deal and we tried a Bordeaux blend that we never would have discovered. It was delicious! We had olives, focaccia, Tagliatelle Bolognese and a la dolce vita pizza. All of those were special and prepared with love I would definitely return to the wine cellar. And recommend it to other travelers.

This shop stocks a range of food and grocery items but concentrates on lunch items such as sandwiches, ready meals and snacks. We were able to get a access code for internet while we were here - which allowed us to contact our native friends (as we didn't have cell service) and narrow down a time and location to meetup. We are very fortunate to have popped in here- as we didn't want to pop into a bar that early in the morning just for a wifi code. We even stopped back a couple days later for some snacks for the airport on our way out. This location has so much natural light, is very clean and organized and had very friendly staff!

A Centra is indeed a Centra, but there's a couple things about this one worth noting…read more.. It has a hot counter (it likely didn't have one in 2009 as per previous review) and the Centra itself is oddly "long". You can enter in Temple Bar and exit on the quays OR you can even enter on the quays and exit in Temple Bar. It seems to always be busy between 8-9am and 12-3pm. I usually pass through to buy a mineral, as it's 1 Euro (as opposed to the one on Parliament Street, where they are still asking for 1.50-2.00). The staff is rather brisk and abrupt. You can be cheerful and say 'thank you' and they'll still look at you with contempt, as if they are doing you an absolute favour letting you spend whatever money hasn't been taxed off you at their establishment. The queue at the register is next to the dining area near the quay doors. This exposes oneself to a lot of 'ambiance', such as last week the queue bore witness to a charming card breaking up with his girlfriend (tears and all) at the table closest to the register. We were running out of time on our hunt to find them when I realized, 'I've got my trusty guidebook!!' And that's how we ended up here. It was 12 Euros for 6 oysters and a glass of wine. Since there were four of us, the lady was nice enough to give us 4 cups of wine (yes, plastic cups - it's a farmer's market, what do you expect!) They even threw in an extra oyster! SO FRESH! SO BIG! (cue that's-what-she-said joke). Compared to NYC oysters, these babies looked like they were on steroids! They also have this dipping sauce (had onions and was really vinegar-y, but good. But if you don't like the sour, you should just take the oyster straight.) Didn't eat anything else from other stands because we just had lunch. However, I believe they had shish kebabs, crepes, and bread. Oh and FYI - Sheridans Cheesemongers was there (saw this place on Anthony Bourdain when he went to Dublin so thought this might be worth mentioning). Definitely check out this farmer's market!
