She almost looks like she's part of the wind her hair and dress swirl across the wall like music moving through the air. Around her are oversized lilies and bright stars, which makes the whole scene feel a little dreamy and theatrical. At the center behind her is a circular design with the words "New Albany Opera House 1866." That detail makes the mural feel like a tribute to the city's artistic past. This building has been updated and converted into a space that houses multiple small businesses. You can't miss this mural as you're driving down Pearl Street in downtown New Albany. I saw it and had to get out of my car to take a photo and marvel at its Art Deco magnificence! The woman painted in the mural is definitely giving "The Lady of Shalott" vibes, and she looks like she's falling backward on a bed of flowers and butterflies, with stars coming out of her mouth. It makes me think of Tennyson's poem and also the Bjork song "Sun in My Mouth." Except homegirl has stars in her mouth. Carrie Johns, an artist from southern Indiana, is the person behind this wonderful piece of public art. If you are in the area, you should definitely check out this mural yourself.
