Had the worst experience of my entire lifetime. Decided to get my septum pierced, he was very rude, made no connection with me at all. When it came to doing the piercing itself, he was very rough and immediately poked the needle trough without telling me he was. He said he lost the needle although I heard the skin break. We tried again and he said the same thing. As someone who has gotten piercings and tattoos before, I have never been handled in such a rough and unfriendly manner. Do not go to him. My girlfriend and I were headed down the coast to spend the 4th in San Diego. We had stopped to spend the night in Cambria when I received a call that my grandmother had died unexpectedly after surgery and we'd have to turn around and fly to Kentucky for the funeral. Trying to salvage the vacation, we decided to see if we could find a place that would accept walk-ins on short notice so I could get a tattoo of a Rook card (concept art: http://jaredbruckner.com/NewestRookWebsite/RP/L/L028/B.jpg), which was my grandmother's favorite card game, and a small tattoo for my girlfriend. Central Coast Tattoos was the first shop we called. My girlfriend said that we had two small tattoo references that we'd like to have drawn up and inked if they had availability for walk-ins. The woman who answered the phone responded, "You want two tattoos drawn up? And inked? Today? On a holiday weekend? Are you serious?" We're both covered in tattoos; this isn't even close to our first experience with tattoo shops. I'm aware that a lot of shops run on snark, sarcasm, and pride- and I think that's fine. I also understand that artists have to deal with a lot of misconceptions about how the process works, such as people walking in and expecting huge, intricate pieces with no planning for $50 in under an hour and a half. I get it. But it's easier to say "we don't have staff for walk-ins today" and leave it at that instead of being condescending and guaranteeing that we'll never go to your shop (and besides, who wants nasty Yelp reviews? :)). For what it's worth, we called Apothecary Tattoo next. They had availability, waited for us to drive 40 minutes, and drew up what I wanted and tattooed it in maybe 2 hours; they didn't have time to get my girlfriend in, so she went with a small piercing instead. The end result (by Derek) is exactly what I wanted, almost identical to the reference material; he was fast as hell and cool to talk to. I'm used to Bay Area hourly rates and 6-month wait lists and Derek's work is at or above that level of quality with none of the pretension. tl;dr for the shop owners: Chill out, guys. Because other shops are getting your business. read more

So...I'm a host mom of a high-school-age exchange student. She wanted a nose piercing while she was here in California. I asked her parents and they said "sure, if it's small." We first called some piercing/tattoo parlors in SLO but were told their insurance companies forbid them from piercing anyone younger than 16. Okay... Hmm, this place in Morro Bay has no problem doing kids under 16. That's nice I guess (but the nagging thought...why doesn't *their* insurance care about them doing the under-16 kids...do they *have* insurance?) We arrived with an entourage of high school friends for moral support and that was no problem. Very friendly customer service. I filled out the "paperwork" on an iPad- that was fast and easy. No one asked to see my ID or any proof that I was her host mom. I get the sense they're a bit loose on rules and legalities. But the piercing itself went smoothly- fast and well done. No infection. If I was a high school student, I'd love this place. As a mom, I'm not so sure. read more

Jeremiah is the best! I originally found him over 10 years ago and got 2-3 of my pieces done with him. after he left the shop, I lost touch with him but thankfully was referred back to him this year and I am so glad! He is artistic and thoughtful and really listens to what you are looking to get done. He's timely in his work but doesn't rush through it and he knows what he's doing. I've let him freestyle parts of every tattoo I've had him do for me and I've never been disappointed. I no longer live in the area but I will make the trip back just to work with him. read more

Awesome! Clean, professional establishment. I went to get a lip piercing. I am terrified of needles but Sydney (sorry if misspelled) made me feel super comfortable and it was great! Music plays in the shop so you don't have an uncomfortable silent room with nothing to take your mind off the upcoming needle. Back in July I had a nostril piercing done at Central Coast Tattoos. When I was taken back to the piercing room, I noticed that my piercer was not wearing gloves, her mask was pulled down, and I didn't see the sterilization of the piercing equipment. Though she was very friendly and kind, I became concerned with the cleanliness of the process and quality of the jewelry as the price was only $5 for the stud. I had told the piercer my end goal for the nostril piece was to wear a hoop and asked how long I should wait for the new piercing to heal before changing jewelry, she replied 2 weeks. I came back only 2 weeks later as I had been informed I could to change my jewelry out. (Nostril piercings can take at least 6 months and up to a year to heal.) The man who did the jewelry change selected a piece of jewelry that not only was too small for my nostril, causing it to pinch, but was a thicker gage than the original jewelry. He couldn't get it in my nose at first (most likely because of these factors) and suggested I reach in my piercing, with unwashed hands, and try to get it myself. After I too couldn't get the piercing in, he called a woman into the piercing room from her desk for assistance. Without washing her hands, she reached into my nose and snapped the piercing into place, painfully, and drew blood. My concerns lie with cleanliness and sanitation (especially during a pandemic), the ill informed advice about when a jewelry change could be completed and how mask-wearing would inhibit healing of facial jewelry, the after care solution comprised of iodized silver rather than sterile saline, and the unfortunate jewelry change experience. Since my experience with Central Coast Tattoos I've learned a lot about piercing, mostly out of necessity due to this nostril piercing getting infected not once, but twice. I have since had piercings done by professional piercers, and my advice would be to make sure and do your research before getting a tattoo or piercing from any shop. read more

i've been going to this shop only because they are the closest piercing shop near me, but i have seen and experienced enough to say this is a pretty bad place. the second you walk through the door, you are met with one or two actual workers, and a couple other random people that have no business being there. i got my nostril pierced here and it has probably been my worst piercing experience. i was also pierced with a hoop instead of a stud and that made the healing process a living hell. very unsanitary and the piercer used this weird lotion that they apparently make themselves, which is very strange. one worker in particular is very rude every time i come in. in short, this place gives me bad energy and i do not feel welcome. read more

Ist Possible Business transaction: Totally unsanitary! I've gotten everything with a surface area pierced and tattooed from up and down California. When I went in to get my second septum piercing from them (my first and what turned into my second I got at TRADITIONAL TATTOO in San Luis Obispo) and just recently relocating from SLO to Morro Bay, I thought I would give the local spot a try. I couldn't go through with it. It was absolutely uncleanly! Not only do they touch and handle their jewelry with their bare hands and put it straight on the counter top, no cloth or protectant precautions whatsoever, but their piercing room was filled with baby stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love babies, with their adorable drooling habits, and food spitting techniques, and that somehow, they manage to get poop everywhere, but I know as do most, they are not the cleanliest of beings. There was the babes diaper bag on the piercing bed (repulsive), Baby toys, the jumper etc. Not only is that totally unsanitary, but entirely unprofessional. 2nd Possible Business Transaction: I went back to give them a second try, not for piercings, no way! But a few months later to maybe see if their jewelry handling practices had improved and to get a new ring, but alas, all is the same. And not only that, but they were extremely rude. So Central Coast Tattoo, I will be sending my business and my friends business elsewhere. I would encourage a sanitary environment and good business practices before you freak too many of the locals out and lose the business. Clean and professional. Got my tattoo work done by Sydnee Whidbee tattoo apprentice. She is great, solid line work and great shading on a black tattoo. Not the best tattoo shop/artists in SLO county but one of the better ones for sure. If you're thinking about a tattoo it just depends on what you want. They're definitely worth going in and talking too and take a look at their books. Might not be a place to go for a detailed portrait tattoo though. read more

Run by the totally efficient Cynthia and her mother, Chrys, the tattoo artist with a wealth of information, my wife and I made appointments on the same day. My wife had her eyebrows and lips "fine tuned" and I had a beautiful tattoo of the Yin & Yang symbol with dolphins on my calf, done by Chrys. My wife is coming back for her first tattoo and I might get a third. Spending half a day with Chrys and Cynthia is part of the fun of getting tattoos! Clean, spotless business! I walked in after coffee with family wanted to get a small tattoo on my hand. The owner Cynthia was friendly and helpful. She said the min was $80 and her tattoo artist (also Cynthia) would be in soon. It sounded like I could come back anytime and get my tattoo. I'm traveling from out of town so I couldn't wait for tattoo artist to come in at the time, but still considering if I can fit into my activities while on vacation. Sketchy place. My daughter went into ask about having her ears pierced (basic) and was told that her 12 yr. old son (under 18) was not allowed inside the business and was sent outside to wait. OK. But later, my 12 yr. old niece found an adult acquaintance to take her to have upper ear cartilage pierced "to look cool" in the 6th grade. She got pierced. The same person waited on them both so it's not like she was new & didn't realize there are regulations about "under 18" kids. No parent/LEGAL guardian was with my niece to give permission and receive instructions for the care & healing of her piercing, leaving it up to a 6th grader to deal with it herself. She and her friends are talking about next piercings since they found a place that will pierce kids without a parent present. There are more ethical places for tattoos & piercings in the area. read more
