Lost wallet! On May 8, 2026, between 1:14 PM and 2:00 PM, I…read morearrived at Guanajuato Airport from the United States. Somewhere between getting off the plane and exiting the airport, I lost my wallet. It had my Green Card, bank cards, Social Security card, and important documents inside. I reported it immediately -- literally within minutes -- hoping airport staff could help me review security cameras or locate where it was lost. Unfortunately, I never received any real help or follow-up. Later, I was told to go to the Public Ministry (Ministerio Público), but they also refused to help because they said it was "not a crime," only a lost item. I was informed that security cameras showed someone picked up my wallet and later flew out of the country, but they could not provide any information or try to contact the person, even though airports have passenger records. Because my Green Card was inside, I was unable to return to the United States as planned and had to go through a very stressful process. I am very disappointed with the lack of customer service and assistance I received. In many other countries, there would at least be an effort to contact the person who found the wallet or take stronger action to help recover important documents. Please be very careful with your belongings at this airport. If you lose something important, don't expect much help. En algún momento entre bajar del avión y salir del aeropuerto, perdí mi cartera. Dentro llevaba mi Green Card, tarjetas bancarias, mi tarjeta del Seguro Social y otros documentos importantes. La reporté inmediatamente, literalmente a los pocos minutos, con la esperanza de que el personal del aeropuerto pudiera ayudarme revisando las cámaras de seguridad o localizando dónde se había perdido. Desafortunadamente, nunca recibí ayuda real ni seguimiento. Después, me dijeron que fuera al Ministerio Público, pero ahí tampoco quisieron ayudarme porque dijeron que "no era un delito", solo un objeto perdido. Me informaron que en las cámaras de seguridad se veía que alguien recogió mi cartera y posteriormente salió del país en un vuelo, pero no pudieron proporcionar ninguna información ni intentar contactar a la persona, aun cuando los aeropuertos tienen registros de pasajeros. Debido a que mi Green Card estaba dentro de la cartera, no pude regresar a los Estados Unidos como estaba planeado y tuve que pasar por un proceso muy estresante. Estoy muy decepcionado por la falta de servicio al cliente y de apoyo que recibí. En muchos otros países, al menos se haría un esfuerzo por contactar a la persona que encontró la cartera o tomar medidas más serias para ayudar a recuperar documentos tan importantes. Por favor, tengan mucho cuidado con sus pertenencias en este aeropuerto. Si pierden algo importante, no esperen recibir mucha ayuda.

Despite the fact that I speak only enough Spanish to count and order a meal, I couldn't resist the…read morechance to join a Callejoneada while in Guanajuato. For a price of $8US per person, this is a lot of entertainment even if you have no idea what's being said. You will no doubt notice the attractively costumed performers in town, mostly at the Jardin de la Union. It's these performers who will lead you through the streets in the evening, playing their instruments, singing, and telling stories. They will also offer additional things for sale including huge clay pots containing your choice of tequila or vodka drinks and other things I won't mention, not wanting to give away any surprises. In truth, I had essentially no idea of what was being said but in no time I was singing along and swaying to the lyrics of one song that was oft repeated. It's fair to say that everyone had a smile on their face pretty much the entire time. There's a good deal of walking, up and down the charming streets of Guanajuato as well as stopping for stories, jokes, and music. I got my tickets on TripAdvisor but you can also purchase from tourist booths in town or from the performers themselves. I can't imagine coming to Guanajuato and not partaking in the Callejoneada experience. Surely more fun if you understand the stories but the joy of the whole performance is undeniable.

We came here on December 28th (yes, Mexican fools day) and when we parked our cars we we're approached by Miguel, who is the Public Relations director of Tuna Compostela. He gave us a good deal as he did not charge us for our kids and gave us an adult for free and that if we wanted to go, we had to purchase them right away as they have limited attendance. BTW we were a group of 18 people. So far it was good until we showed up to our 8:15pm show where he had promised we were going to have 80 min of "callejoneada" with a big entertainer (El Gordo), as well as a "porrón" for our fruit juice. He did say they no longer serve alcohol. Well, long story short we did not get our "porrón", they started with a nice show in front of Iglesia de San Diego, and then departed to start the "callejoneada" with approximately 150 people!!!! It was insane! We could barely catch up with the crowd. We decided to go back and select a different show. We waited until the one at 9pm as it seemed less attended. Well, we were probably over a hundred customers walking along the stretched streets of Guanajuato. It was scary at some point as you could barely move in some of the streets...some of them are so narrow that it can only fit 2 persons! So you can imagine waiting for all the crowd to go through this bottleneck. As we moved along, they played nicely. However with so many people in the streets, we didn't arrive at the most iconic place: "Callejón del Beso". You could barely get into that street. So they left us a block from there and then they finished the show. It's good if they truly adhered to their promises. But this was disheartening as we won't trust again next time we are here...we will walk on our own and just watch their show at the church. Disappointed...

Great way to admire the architecture of the city and enjoy the colors of the houses below! One of a kind experience, it doesn't take long to get up there and the price is reasonable. Spend as much as you'd like to look around and admire the vista. Bring a good camera with a zoom lens. Fun activity that get you to see Guanajato from various angles! Nice photo ops while you reach the top and a small historic museum, great to check out! Breathtaking views! And a fun adventure!

Although it doesn't rise to the highest parts of town, Guanajuato's funicular is worth the ride for…read morethe efficiency of the experience and the views en route. From below, you'll see the steep stairs beside the funicular. These are not available to climb. Rather, get yourself a one-way ticket and navigate the appropriate stairs/path to get back to the town's main street. It's impossible to get truly lost on the way down and once you get down you'll know how to get back up without the funicular if you later choose to do so (the walk up takes about 15 minutes). At the top of the Funicular are a series of shops and then, a bit further up, the al Pipila Monument. I did no research but was told by someone knowledgeable that al Pipila is Mexico's Paul Revere. More great photos can be snapped from the place right below al Pipila. Cheap and fun and easy to navigate, if you're in Guanajuato you should definitely try the funicular at least once.

My friends and I were on vacation in Mexico and…read moregetting between cities required us to take these cool buses that drove us through Mexico in comfort. They provided us with food and beverages (those packaged sandwiches with pepper jam are fantastic!) to help accommodate us during the long bus commute. There were also plenty of entertainment options, including several movies (I finally was able to watch the second Spongebob movie, in Spanish of course!). There was also this interesting word search game that showed me several words I've never seen before, but I guess I only know high school Spanish. Tip: You shouldn't play that game if you get motion sickness like I do. By the time I finished the game, I was in tears from a nasty headache trying to concentrate. Don't be me. Enjoy your bus ride! The seats recline and and there are plenty of places to hold your things, like hangers for a trash bag. We got complementary headphones to listen to our movies, and of course after each trip, I grabbed a bunch of them for the road because I love free things.
