When I arrived, they had a surprise for me that apparently I had to purchase their insurance at $150 a day!!!! If I declined, they needed $13,000 as a down payment and $30 a day as a fee for not having insurance! Horrible service and false advertisement. They truly take advantage of the situation where people may need a rental. Luckily, I didn't and did just fine with public transportation!!!!

Assuming the beach is why you came to Puerto Escondido, this is maybe not a great place to stay. Now the positives: it's a paradise. The pool is lovely, there are mango trees that drop their bounty constantly, the wifi is great, there are lovely hammocks and plenty of seating. Beds are cozy. Staff is friendly. Rooftop bar is nice and prices are reasonable. I stayed here for one night before leaving for Huatulco the next day and it worked well for me because of the proximity to the bus station (about a 10 min walk). But again I doubt people are coming to PE for the bus station. A shame bc it's a lovely place to stay but I'd personally take a downgrade and stay closer to the beach.

The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed petting their "old" cat who enjoyed sunning by the pool. The pool was refreshing on a hot humid day! Our room had a ocean view. The room was clean, AC was cold, flat screen tV, good Wi-Fi, comfy bed; hot water was intermittent, no hair dryer or elevator. The ocean is a short walk away- be prepared, returning from the beach is all uphill! There is a night market nearby that was fun. The ocean was warm, the waves were strong, the sun was hot, the beach has chairs/umbrellas as long as you order food/drinks. Nearby is a delicious Paleta /Ice cream shop, a Taco shop with fabulous al Pastor Tacos, a Textile weaving store, and an OXXO Store. Thank you for making our time in Puerto Escondido memorable!

I booked through Airbnb. They failed to inform me that there was ongoing construction right next…read moredoor and it wasn't until I asked that they told me they were moving me to another hotel. They essentially chose another hotel and room to give me without consulting me first or allowing me the opportunity to choose whether to stay with them or not. Complete lack of transparency, communication, and respect. The room they gave me was entirely different from the one I booked. They have rated me as "moody" on Airbnb for not being happy with what they chose for me. Additionally, there were many games they were playing, including asking to refund me in cash so as not to be impacted in their ratings on Airbnb, and making up stories about illnesses as a reason for their failings (they have cancer and eye surgery and other outrageous stories). Stay away, they are no reasonable people.
