Dr. Jay Mulaney performed cataract surgery on each of my eyes this summer, several weeks apart. Prior to these procedures, I had no previous surgical experience at 74 years of age. Going in, I had some concerns, especially with what is called "floppy iris syndrome." Dr. Mulaney had me temporarily discontinue Tamsulosin, as this medication has the potential to be involved with this sort of complication. I followed his instructions to the letter leading up to the cataract procedures. I believe Dr. Mulaney used at least one drug to mitigate the risk, and I think it was atropine. After each cataract procedure, the doctor told me that he was able to get the desired results. There were followups that confirmed those results, and I write this today to express satisfaction that I can describe as "thrilled." Those who know me well would be skeptical that I would use the word "thrilled" ever. The office experience was as organized as I have ever experienced, and if you're worried about doctors and schedule delays...don't. Everything was set up to move every patient with the same timely process. If I as a patient could be on time, the doctor/staff were as well. Oh, yes: He also called me personally the same day to make sure I was doing well. In retrospect, I now consider Dr. Jay Mulaney a friend. No, we're not having cookouts, but he has my permission and encouragement to phone me anytime. I recently visited Dr. Mulaney within Central Florida Eye Associates and found the experience to be disappointing. Despite holding a PhD myself, I felt that Dr. Mulaney treated me in a condescending manner, which was both unprofessional and disheartening. I am concerned about how patients without a similar level of education may be treated. Additionally, the pace of the office was noticeably slow, contributing to a less-than-ideal experience. I have been a patient of Dr. Mulaney for over 12 years. He has treated my glaucoma and recently performed surgery for cataracts and glaucoma. With the insertion of a premium lens, I can see clearly. He is a caring, thoughtful physician and surgeon. I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my cataract surgery. I chose to upgrade to the premium lense that is multi focus, as I was having trouble wearing my contacts due to age and dry eyes.
