No school can compare, there is such an eclectic set of everything in this school. Central is one of the best public high school in Philadelphia. I don't know too much about as I only work here several times a year. The auditorium was recently redone. The new library is beautiful. The classrooms could use some updating and cleaning. The grounds are pretty with a big grassy lawn in the front. The school has an excellent reputation. read more

Central is absolutely the best high school in Philadelphia, if not the entire region. It is the only Blue Ribbon school in the entire state of Pennsylvania. Having graduated from CHS in 2010 (269!), I can say first hand that the level of instruction, support from faculty and staff, and academic integrity are of the highest possible quality. Another reviewer said that he/she visited the school and said it was "cold." I couldn't help but laugh. The atmosphere is competitive, but also one of community. You'd also be amazed by the school's diversity amongst its students. It is wonderful to learn amongst peers from all across the world and all walks of life. If you have the opportunity following the admissions process, make the best decision of your life and enroll as a Central student. You'll thank me later. read more

So..i'll agree with everyone that Central is one of the best public high school in philly IN EDUCATION...HOWEVER..the atmosphere is cold. I remember visiting Central in an effort to possibly transfer there before my senior year. Wrong I was..everyone is cold..it's like they're all little soldiers marching to class..I felt like I was walking into prison when I walked in. Security guards searching bags..students walking thru metal detectors..etc. I couldn't even get a smile from the staff. Central is NOT my cup of tea read more

The students here at central are not marking soldiers, neither are the staff and students cold. The usage of metal detectors ensure the safety of the students and staff. It may seem intimidating to someone who visits/shadows at Central because the environment is nothing like other schools. The school first of all is huge, and yes the paint may be peeling in some areas, but that's the beauty of such a historical building in Philadelphia. Coming to Central has to have been one of the best decisions in my life. The atmosphere is so lively with students willing to make friends with each other. The level of judgements is very low because this school is so accepting towards anything or anyone. We've started LGBTQ clubs and clubs for many different races and culture. I have to say this is the most diverse place in Philadelphia. The teachers are amazing, being able to talk to them like friends. I am very disappointed that next year will be my last year here. For all those coming to Central, 275!!!!!!, that's the best class ever. read more
