I tried posting something earlier but did not work here is what I have to say. this school though I do not want to speak ill of this place, but it lacks education structure and clean environment in both mental and physical ways. The kids talk daily about harming themselves or others. The education is so bad I think you lose more information than you gain. They try to be a good school. If you're investing in private school purely as a vehicle to get your kid into Harvard, then Crefeld is not the right place for you. Not that Crefeld graduates don't go onto excellent schools; on the contrary, Crefeld's students are extremely bright. What Crefeld does best is to educate its students in a safe and warm environment to become socially-conscious self-advocates ready to take on the challenge of college. They give their kids roots and then gives them wings. As a parent of a 10th grader finishing up his fourth year at Crefeld, I have never doubted for a moment that the staff at Crefeld has my son's best interests at heart. They hold him accountable for his actions and celebrate his successes. They educate him while providing him with all the academic and emotional support that he needs to succeed. No school is right for every student, but for the right kid, Crefeld is a gem. read more

This school accepts students who are not succeeding in the public education setting, and are funded by the districts, therefore most of the students have some sort of issue. If you have to pay privately, spend your money elsewhere. The administration will support the students who are coming from the districts, since thats where the bulk of the money is coming from. When my son went there, the structure was minimal and the students were unsupervised during free periods, and often the students with behavior problems ran amok. I have heard reports of students having sex on campus, drugs, and things being stolen. With such a small number of students, that's quite a bit of disruptive behavior. read more

Horrible place! I ended up having to leave the school because I got bullied so bad. The school was the perfect place for me until I started getting severely bullied. This school ostracized me and made me feel worst about myself than I already did. NEVER GO TO THIS SCHOOL!! IT IS A HORRIBLE SCHOOL!! read more

I can honestly say that Crefeld completely turned my life around for the better. I graduated this past year after spending almost 4 years there. I transferred from a big high school mid way through freshman year. Best choice I ever made. I was failing everything, hated school, and really doubted myself and thought that I would never amount to anything. I couldn't learn in that setting. The teachers at Crefeld really helped me not only with the work but they supported me and believed in me to no end and they really helped me believe in myself. The pushed me hard, but always gave me all the support I needed. I graduated Crefeld with mostly all As and Bs all 4 years and got into the college of my dreams with a great scholarship. I am forever thankful for everything it has done for me. I can't wait to go back and see my teachers. Crefeld is not everyone. But if you need a small school where the teachers are gonna care and everyone's different, you will love Crefeld. read more

The Crefeld School is a wonderful high school committed to creating a dynamic learning environment to individually give all students the resources that they need to succeed. Particularly middle and high school students who have had difficultly succeeding in other schools in both an educational and an emotional standpoint. Crefeld is a truly unique school in many ways. I would never recommend this school to anyone. My only recommendation is to run as fast as you can away from this place. You'll get better education and more importantly a better life. There is no benefit of this school that makes the cons worth it. Do not be fooled by the image they try to project to the public. It is all a lie. Do not send your kid here. Promise me that you won't even think about it. I attended school here and can honestly say that it has caused intense stress and drama in my life that no school public or private ever should. The other students are wonderful and a few teachers are nice but for the most part the teachers and admin staff are disgustingly incompetent, disrespectful and rude to students (not unusual for schools but this schools claims to avoid such things) and downright mean to parents, staff, students, each other and guests. I have personally witnessed an individual who works at the school in a position of authority act in a very prejudice matter to two guests who happened to appear Muslim. He insinuated that their presence was making students uncomfortable and that "in this day and age" (his exactly words) students are worried about such things. The campus is poorly maintain and at times just plain dangerous. I got a painful cut on my foot (months later there is still a scar) on a rusty piece of metal lying on the ground between a frequently traveled pathway and a picnic table (so not a untraveled area). The head of the social work team informed me that he believed that I was faking my mental health issues (the reason I was at this school in the first place) which he has (to his credit) repeatedly apologized for however the incident still haunts me in my experiences with other mental health care professionals. A school nurse should never tell a kid who is visibly injured that he or she believes it is fake and the same should go for school mental health workers. Overall DO NOT send your kid here. read more

My daughter is now in her 2nd year at Crefeld, and couldn't be happier. We live in a great school district (Lower Merion), and her older brother loves LM and fits right in, but for the quirky, artistic, imaginative and sensitive kid that my daughter is, LM's middle school experience was a nightmare. When she chose to draw cell structures in her notebooks because she's more comfortable visualizing something than she is describing it in words, her LM teachers labelled that as "doodling" and not paying attention. At Crefeld, her learning style is accepted and they work within it, instead of trying to force her back to the "norm". She loves her teachers and her classes, and she's doing great work, having improved her writing skills enormously and excelling in math and science, too. But it's not for everyone- my son would probably hate it there. If your child sounds like my daughter, this school will very likely be a perfect fit. read more

We could not have found a better school for the jr/sr high school years. Crefeld builds an incredible sense of community among a very diverse collection of students. My daughter went from having migraine headaches multiple times a week to about one per year - there is a more relaxed, supportive environment there and they still get terrific academic outcomes. The investment in Crefeld made our whole family's four years richer, and then turned into a set of college offers that all included over $60k in scholarship money. The faculty is very caring, supportive and accessible. There is NO tolerance for bullying, harassment, name-calling etc. Students have the chance to travel (nationally and internationally), create glass work in a unique glass studio, work with terrific writing and art faculty... The students move through with the same group in morning homeroom all four years so they build relationships with members of older and younger classes. The sense of community is powerful and helped my daughter show the kind of academic student she could be. Don't miss checking into Crefeld if you think education can be more than memorizing for AP exams and taking "scantron"-graded worksheets. read more
