De Russie Suites Orange - Reception on a winter's morning

    De Russie Suites Orange

    $$$

Arguably the best guest house in the Orange district!…read more Four of us stayed in one of the two-bedroom suites. The room accommodated the four adults quite easily, with two separate bedrooms, one bathroom (with bath), and an open plan kitchen - lounge - dining area. Some of the things I really liked were: The complimentary breakfast baggie every morning, containing three slices of bread, jams, butter, margarine, flash fruit juices and gourmet muesli; Reverse-cycle airco; Pillow-top comfy beds (even in the double single beds); Plenty of pillow options; Extra blankets (but not required); Comfy couch; Large flat screen tv; Full range of kitchen utensils; Hot shower with broad head (not one of those pissy needle types); Fluffy towels changed daily, so I didn't have to remember which one was mine; Great fireplace and comfy chairs in the quiet reception, if you needed space; Off-street parking; Lovely old-fashioned service, but modern decor and comforts; Centre of town location (just around the corner); TERRIFIC new wine bar just across the road!! If you've got the inclination to stay somewhere a little classier than a motel, then have a look as the prices are really quite reasonable for a share scenario (it cost me under $250 for 3 nights over the weekend, shared cost).

Really comfortable family suite. Clean, well presented and plenty of room. Mini and snack bar…read morepricing was very reasonable. Easy walking distance to shops and cafés in Orange. Indoor pool was a bit small and wasn't heated as specified. But would definitely stay again.

Looking for a place to stay for $150 a week?…read more Then the Broadway Hotel is your first stop. Clean rooms with a bed, sink, fridge and small TV are on offer but you have to share one of two bathrooms each with two toilets and two showers. I never had a problem getting a shower or toilet when I wanted it, but it might be a tad more difficult when the joint is full-up. Bistro and bar downstairs slinging suds and decent pub grub for a reasonable price. The best thing about this place is its location. It's right in the center or town, right next door to a Woolies and surrounded by heaps of eating options.

Provided you don't expect much for that price you'll be happy. The rooms are basic and clean and come with air con, a tv, small fridge and either a double or single bed. The double bed rooms have a chest of drawers while the single bed rooms have a wardrobe. Plus there's parking at the rear and cheap pub meals downstairs. It's also in a great location smack in the middle of the cbd. Probably not a good idea if you don't like cats though. There is a resident cat who roams the halls and it's one of the biggest cats I've ever seen. Unfortunately it didn't make it to the litter box one night and I found a huge surprise in the hall outside my room. But hey for 30 bucks I was happy to step around it and keep going ;-)

Parkview Motor Inn - Laundry area

Stayed here for a week while in town for work. Its a traditional style motel with a big long row of…read morerooms and a parking spot at the door of each room. There's also a pool and bbq area. The new owners had only just taken over management of the place a few days before I checked in so bear that in mind if you read any older reviews of the place. The rooms were quite spacious with a queen bed and a single in each. There was also a bit of a desk area, flat screen tv with some foxtel channels, bar fridge, kettle, iron, toaster, wardrobe and drawers. The bathrooms had recently been renovated. There wasn't a microwave in the room but there is a microwave in the laundry for everyone to use and the laundry in conveniently located in the middle of the motel. My only issue was the wifi. You could generally get online in the morning or middle of the day but come evening it was dead as a doornail. I spoke to the manager about it turned out it was one of those problems they'd inherited from the old owners. They have some sort out router and range extender in there but it was only ever designed to cope with about a dozen devices. In a motel with over 30 rooms that was never going to cut it. The new owners have teed up some repairs to the network next week so hopefully this will be fixed soon. In the meantime they even offered me the use of their own personal Telstra 4G wifi connection - you don't find too many motel managers as hospitable as this couple! The motel is in a great location. As the name Parkview would suggest it backs on to a big park. In the morning the park is home to hundreds of Galahs that seemed to land here every day and were fun to watch. It's about a minute outside of the centre of Parkes so its in a really quiet location and I barely heard a thing at night.

    Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel is easily the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. The main difference; the…read moreelement that makes the Royal really stand out, is the atmosphere. You can practically breathe in the history of the Hotel as you walk up the original wooden staircase, knowing that your footsteps are echoing those from a hundred years gone by. It's a surreal sensation. Many hotels try too hard to modernise and in doing so lose their original charm, but the Royal has achieved all the modern luxuries while managing to heighten the rustic appeal of the hotel. The boutique charm and beauty of the accommodation turned our stay at the Royal into a romantic getaway, even though in reality it was only for one night. The beds were complete with piles of fluffy pillows, soft sheets and a heated blanket to ensure we quickly drifted off into a deep sleep. There were nice televisions and a seemingly endless supply of tea and coffee hidden away in the wardrobes of each room. And the amazing bathrooms - well I'll get to those later! We could easily have a spent a week or two here and enjoyed lazy mornings in bed and late night cocktails at the bar. There is something very comforting about being able to simply wander upstairs after a hearty meal; instead of having to wait on the pavement for a taxi, or limit your drinks so you can drive. And while I'm on the topic of meals, we were blown away by our dinner at the Royal! The attention to detail and the flavours were sensational. They tasted even better than they looked! In fact they were simply too good to pause for a photo, and that's saying something, as I'm renowned for making everybody wait so I can snap a few pictures! I personally recommend the Rosti Stack, its vegetarian done right and got a big tick from me (it was topped with avocado!). All the meals on our table were heartily enjoyed and the drinks flowed all evening, with a smooth Baileys on ice to cap off the night before we shuffled upstairs to our warm, cosy beds. The next morning I was keen to try out the brand new shower! And it was so good! There is no shortage of hot water here and it was the most luxurious experience, drowning in sweet-smelling botanical soaps. I stayed nice and warm even when I (eventually) turned off the taps as there were high powered heat lights keeping the whole place toasty and fluffy towels to wrap up in - so luxurious! We really wish we could have stayed longer at the Royal and we will definitely be back soon for a much longer visit. We can't stop raving about our stay to everybody back home and we think that the photos speak for themselves! The Royal has so much charm, and our night here truly felt like a trip to a romantic bygone era.

Super clean, lovely presentation, friendly service…read more I had a single aircon room, with a sink and fridge with complimentary water and tea/coffee set up. Price was $55.00 for the night which I felt was more than reasonable.
