If you aren't taking advantage of the municipal resources of Greensboro, you're missing out. Along with great parks and other features, Greensboro has some very good libraries. The Central Library downtown is wonderful. It has a lot of resources for all kinds of users, from movies to a massive kids area. Especially for kids, this is a great place to visit occasionally. It inspires my kids to read more which is difficult to do. They enjoy visiting, looking through all the book options, and checking out their choices. It's also right next to LaBauer park and the children's center so it makes for a great day out together. read more

I have been enjoying visiting this library. It is quite comprehensive and organized pretty well. there are many events for both children and adults and you can find out about them if you go to their website. They offer free educational classes. For example, I took an introduction to Microsoft Excel class. Soon, I will be taking a sewing class. It has a nice children's section in the library. However, there are homeless people linger inside and outside of the library so It can be a bit smelly They validate parking for up to two hours, if you park beside the library in the deck Sometimes people talk on their phones or people are tutoring in there so it's not always a quiet environment read more

As a person in my late-20s who lives and works downtown, I frequent this Central Library at least once each week. Pros: great selection, nice space, meeting space available to rent, annual used book sales, book club sets are available to loan (the process to apply for the book club set could be easier, but it is manageable), and my favorite: online system is the BEST - I log into my account almost daily to add books to my list, request books to pick up, and make sure nothing in my account is outstanding. When my holds are ready, I receive a phone call and then walk over to get the books. Cons: as I use the online system all the time, I wish I could have the automated system send me an email when my books are ready to be picked up rather than a phone call and voicemail. Also, when retrieving my books, the staff move very slowly, which is fine in most cases, but when I am in a rush, I get frustrated at the slow pace. Overall, great central library and I am grateful to have such a well-stocked public library down the street! read more

I think this library is a pleasant place to go to if you're looking for events. They hold quite a few unique events that are kid friendly and geek friendly. There is a nice selection of books to borrow as well and their donation process is very simple. I definitely recommend this place to readers and people who like to hang out. read more

I love this library. It's great for studying. They have a nice selection of dvd's and book's on cd's to choose from. Upstairs is really nice, clean and quiet to study. There are lots of plugs to charge your laptop and the bathrooms are clean. The lady at the front desk isn't the friendliest around, but not rude. You can park on the street which is metered or in the parking garage. The first hour is free but you have to remember to stamp your parking ticket when leaving the library. There is a cute coffee shop in the front of the library. I've went to a Non-Profit event in one of the their meeting spaces and it was very nice. Sound quality and projection screen was great. Definitely consider the library for meeting spaces. read more

I hate to leave a 1 star rating because this Library is beautiful and the people who work here are very nice.... however, yesterday I had a very bad experience here with some of the transients that loiter here all day. I was sitting quietly researching something when a man sat next to me despite the fact that many seats were empty. He then proceeded to have a loud phone conversation, and after that he kept mumbling to himself rather loudly. Next one of his friends approached and started to say loudly that he was in the Library to sell crack! I got up and left after that and once outside I spotted a Security Guard and told him what happened. Instead of trying to remedy the situation,he proceeded to tell me that everyone had a right to use the Library, which I agree, but nobody has the right to behave that way in a public place. He went on to let me know, in a nutshell, that" crackheads are people too"! To make matters worse, as I left he stood and did nothing as the aforementioned crackhead tried to verbally abuse me.... maybe the Security Guard is one of his customers? read more

I like this library a lot. The parking lot and the entrance into the place is a little funky. There are tons of signs pointing you in all types of directions (essentially taking you to the elevator) whereas, you can just take a few extra steps across the street and be there. Anyways, the staff is always friendly, the inside is pretty retro feeling, but it's pretty. I'm not someone who demands silence in a library, but there's always a few older men in the back talking pretty loudly, reading their newspapers. Don't bother looking at the computers from the front though, the only thing you'll see is people on their Facebook pages or playing candy crush, but hey, I guess that's not my business! They have a nice selection, and if they don't have what you're looking for, they'll help you find it or they'll put you on a wait list. I like it, and I'll keep going. read more

The library is huge and quite lovely. My husband and I were visiting from out of town with our daughter to go to the Children's Museum across the street. She loves books, and we go to our local library at least once a week. She was very excited, as were we, to go into the children's section of this new library. The layout and design are excellent! Unfortunately, the staff in the children's section are rude and particularly unfriendly to kids! She was being a very well-behaved 16 month old, but still has her toddlerisms. She was never once loud, messy, or rough with the books, yet each of the staff had something to say about her. Nothing directly to us, which would have been significantly more mature and less upsetting, just loudly *about* her. When we were approached by one woman when I gave my daughter a drink from her spill-proof, sippy cup, that was all I could take. (Evidently adults with water bottles are okay, but an adult holding a sippy cup is not.) She was condescending and rude to me, as I sat there apologizing. We were so uncomfortable that we left. Perhaps the management should consider rotating their staff in order to put people who are friendly and understand children in the children's section of the library. read more
