This blue marker stands tall in front of the Free Library of Philadelphia and points out the history of the building. It's easy to read and in good condition. There is metered parking on the street here.
The marker reads, "Opened on June 2, 1927, the Central Library was designed in the Beaux Arts style by Horace Trumbauer & Julian Francis Abele. It was built to serve as the main building of the Free Library of Philadelphia, chartered in 1891."
Online, there is more information. The Free Library of Philadelphia is the one of the largest public library systems in the United States after San Diego, Kansas City, and New York in the top three rankings. The current building opened in 1927, designed to follow the Hôtel de Crillon and the Hôtel de la Marine on Paris's Place de la Concorde. Even if you're not visiting the library, it's well worth your time to admire the building itself.
