They're conveniently located right across from Island Grocery Depot, and there was plenty of parking. As soon as we parked, staff came over to greet us and immediately took care of us. We were planning to sort everything once we got there, but they jumped in and started helping unload and sort the recyclables for us--something I definitely wasn't expecting. They were incredibly kind and efficient. That said, you should sort ahead of time. We happened to come on a slower day, didn't have too many bags, and were the only ones there, which probably made it easier for them to assist. Overall, it was quick, easy, and honestly was a great experience. The staff were fast, friendly, and made the whole process feel effortless.Highly recommend stopping by Aloha Recycling.

I've been accumulating worn out computers, printers, stereo equipment and stuff for years. If the item was functional, I would list it on Craigslist for free, just to keep it out of the landfill and to give someone else the chance to get some use out of it. But, if it's a hunk of junk, there's no point in listing it and getting someone's hopes up for a nice freebie. This stuff was junk. We found this place with a quick Google search. Open Tuesday 1-5pm and Saturday 8am-1pm, I thought they would be less busy on a Tuesday afternoon. There were people dropping off when we arrived and more showing up as we left. I violated rule #1 right away. You're supposed to stay in your car. My pile of junk was in the trunk, so I got out to open the trunk since my car has a key lock for the trunk lid. Thankfully, the fellow who came out let this violation slide. He actually was very friendly and we got along well. But, there was another problem. Some of my electronics weren't acceptable. He told me that he couldn't take my old garage stereo, complete with an 8-track tape player. I asked him why and he just shrugged his shoulders. But, if I moved that receiver, he would take the junk that was under it. He also took my old printer, but left the broken CD changer. So, I guess I have a couple of hunk of junk headed for the landfill.

Young ones won't know what the hell that means, so Google it! They even have a repair garage that always looks busy. No convenience store though. While I don't come here for gas, I was forced here for the HI-5 recycling redemption service, ran by Aloha Recycling. I usually patronize the location next to UHMC but their redemption center has been closed for several weeks already due to staffing, but you can still drop off recyclables there. Tucked in between the gas station and car wash is the small, dirty and bustling operation. Grab one of the netted carts, dump your separated goods in them and wheel it to the attendant. They'll print out a receipt which you take to the gas station's window cashier who'll disperse your money. OVERALL: Do your part and recycle!

I gave him my count and he proceeded to count them-never had that happen before said they do that now to be sure weve counted right, no problem for me. But I had counted wrong (under counted on my cans & over counted by a couple on bottles) I felt bad and he said no problem. So got more $ back than I had expected. I was very impressed with him. Place was clean and staff very friendly. We had some glass bottles and plastic and the bins for them were easy to find.

As i had items to drop off at Goodwill that's just two steps away from this location at the Park and Ride in Hawaii Kai, i did have not a lot but a few recyclable items in my car and decided to just redeem them. Super convenient location with lots of parking options at this spacious lot as all i needed to do is place my items in the provided gray trash bins and get it processed...sign and poof! The service is nice and fast no need to drive and line your car up like some other location super easy and basically no lines the process to recycle a chore and with a few bucks...$3.20 to be exact in hand I'm happy. He said "have a nice day" as I left! Quick, easy, convenient location and so happy with the redemption.

Not open every day yet but that's only the redemption center. You can always bring in your other items for recycling at any time: cardboard; newspaper; food cans; wine bottles. It's kept pretty clean most of the time, and getting in and out is easy. Right next to the community center and elementary school making it useful for families to incorporate into their daily trips. I understand that there is paperwork involved and the county will kick in money to get them to squash your car into a pancake and ship it off Island to be shredded and turned into something useful. I'm not nearly ready to turn in my old beater, but they probably got their hopes up when they saw us coming today. This was my first attempt to cash in on some scrap aluminum and copper that I've accumulated over the years. It was very discouraging. I drove on the Mokolele and turned into the Maui Baseyard, worked my way back to the south end, and followed the sign to Hammerhead without trading paint with any big rigs. After switching lanes with oncoming traffic (and not playing chicken), I stopped to check in at the check-in trailer. The girl was very nice. She wanted to know what ferrous and nonferrous metals I brought. After hearing about my nonferrous offerings, she sent me down to the next building and she would have someone meet me there. A fellow arrived in a few minutes on a forklift. He was sorta disappointed to see that my load wasn't really requiring a forklift to haul it inside. He was nice enough with his short explanation of their big checks. I would have been okay with a little check, but I think the bottom line was that I hadn't accumulated enough to meet their minimum. Not sure how far off the mark I was, either. He offered to take the stuff off my hands, but I'll head over to Habitat For Humanity and see if they have any use for it. So, we left in our old Chevy, with all of its whisky dents and strange noises.

They have mostly toiletries... all natural, organic , no chemicals or unhealthy ingredients, no waste. You could refill your own bottle. They have soap, shampoo and conditioner, sunscreen, lotion, oils, brushes, towels , etc. Must come in to visit even just to admire their artistic and natural way to conserve natural resources.

I refilled a Costco size laundry soap container, dish soap, and, shampoo. All of that plastic would have gone to the landfill. They've got laundry "pods", hair products, toothpaste and more. Got stocking stuffers as well Save the planet and stop single use plastic. Take you containers and refill them with theses great products. One tablespoon of detergent was all I needed to do a load of towels!!! Smell good and clean.

This review is for the big transfer station dump in Olowalu, (the smaller recycling center in…read moreLahaina burned down in the tragic August fires 2 years ago). We turned up with a huge trailer load of garden waste and the guys at the dump told us to park in bay 6 and give them a few minutes to compact the green waste using a mechanical dozer. Once that was done they told us to stand back and carefully picked up the green waste from the back of our trailer and placed it in the dumpster! It was artfully and perfectly done and shows the precision involved in mastering a dozer. It saved us a lot of time and effort, so we made sure we did a good clean up job with our rake, brushes and blower we brought along. I tried to tip the driver but he refused so next time we go to the dump we are taking homemade banana cake to thank them for being so great ;) PS. If you are into dumpster diving you can find some great stuff at the dump! It would be great if there was a small store room with items of furniture, etc that could be saved and recycled. I would volunteer to man it one day a week if someone set it up!!
