We had a bunch of cans and bottles to redeem. I counted everything before we went. Worker guy came over grabbed our cans/bottles after we put them in their tubs which i thought was nice. I gave him my count and he proceeded to count them-never had that happen before said they do that now to be sure weve counted right, no problem for me. But I had counted wrong (under counted on my cans & over counted by a couple on bottles) I felt bad and he said no problem. So got more $ back than I had expected. I was very impressed with him. This has got to be the cleanest and most organized recycling center I've ever been to. The workers were efficient. The line...what line? :)

We brought our redemption items and recycle items in today. We had 238 aluminum cans this time. Hand counted at home because the number that is guesstimated by weight always leaves us short changed. But, now there's a new rule. They only accept a hand count of 200 or less items. The guy working there was very nice about it, but there was a sign stating the new rule. I didn't ask why, but I've been scratching my head about it. Anyway, after removing 38 cans (including the big Arizona Tea cans, he accepted the 200 counted cans and weighed the 38 extra cans. We got our "redemption" money, which means we only lost 1 penny per can, plus the money we used to get for the aluminum. Remember how that used to work? It would be nice if the dumpsters for recycling had better signs, so people wouldn't have to walk up and down the row in search of the right dumpster. The 2 dumpsters for cardboard were closed. It looked like they were full. Maybe people had too many Christmas presents or junk from Amazon lately. So, our cardboard were home and into our trash can. read more

The took our bottle/cans to be recycled. They weren't real friendly. Maybe because it was the end of their day and they were tired.

Aw, I liked the recycling guys. And it was a neat center compared to what I have at home. You have to do some footwork, which is probably best done by sorting in your own bins at home before you get there. They do weigh your stuff, but are willing to do things by the count if you insist. They don't even make you take the lids off your bottles and accept that as part of the weight. I took some recycling in for my cousin. read more

This place is great! The staff is friendly and the redemption bins (the large steel bins) are open 365 days a year. The facility should be open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days a week. Sometimes the gate may be locked if they forget to open them up. The HI-5 redemption center (the place where you recycle for $) is inside the facility. Their hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, seven days a week. They are closed on some holidays, but not all. The HI-5 redemption center hours will change to closing at 4:30 PM, beginning February 1st, 2018. read more

Fraudulent at best is the least friendly of all the recycling centers on Maui, this particular time I went I watched the gentleman use his foot to reduce the weight of my aluminum by at least 10lbs and glass by 15lbs for each redemption, (next time I will video the process) and any other center would've been $30 or more today $9. I always tip the guys to help, including the one who came to help me who help me today (despite his counterpart and probally going to have some problem from his counterpart for it). His counterpart well when I drove up called out fr​om under the shaded area sitting in a chair in the doorway asked is it a "donation" or redemption? I responded redemption he said well go a sort it and get the garbage cans your self and bring them over to be weighed. Never has this happened before at any center here. Now before you think spoiled person, please read the whole review. I wondered why they were so helpful in the past, even if I tried to do it myself, come to find out the center gets paid for the volume they produce. Whether it is a "donation" or not. As I understand it if you say it is a "donation" at the drop-off point, the person who sorts the recycling gets to pocket the money, and none goes to a good cause except maybe that person, not that is not one of course. I will be contacting the DCCA to report the fraud. read more

When do the containers get dumped?? The cardboard containers are always jammed to the point where people are just dropping stuff on the ground. THe other containers are full to overflowing. I try to pick a day that I THINK may be right after they empty the containers, but every time I go there its a trainwreck of garbage everywhere because the containers are FULL! read more
