I have been studying adult Taekwondo at CPTKD for six years, and I was surprised to realize that I have never left a review. Words cannot express how amazing this place is. Every single teacher has taught me something deeply meaningful about life, and helped me to become a better martial artist. Come and try it. You will be in the best shape of your life, able to defend yourself should an emergency ever arise, and (what's more) you will have a source of inspiration and grace in your life beyond anything you could have imagined. There is no other school in the area that can hold a candle to the dedication and expertise of their teachers and the spirit of community and togetherness they inspire. The facilities are also bar none, state of the art, beautiful, and always immaculate. p.s. I can't say too much about how the owners are, prices, etc. But I take the girls I babysit here a few times a week and have spent a lot of time observing the staff's interactions with the children and been in the facilities and this seems like a great place The girls I babysit absolutely love it here. The staff are great with the children and have age appropriate activities and expectations. They are also welcoming and friendly. The facility is super clean and new. There are toys available for the children to play with during down times. There is flavored water, tea and pretzels always available. From a babysitters perspective I love it here read more

I did a lot of research before I chose to train at Central Park Taekwondo. I was looking for a school with competent instructors who care about the art and are not boastful of their skill; senior students who display a lack of ego, even as they take their training seriously; a friendly and helpful staff; and clean and neat facilities with pleasant changing rooms, scrubbed mats, and equipment that is cared for. I found all of that and more when I found CPTKD. At CPTKD, whether it is youth or adults, the students are content, disciplined, and competent. They are polite and respectful to each other and to the instructors. I enjoy time together with my fellow students inside or outside of the mat, either at gatherings planned at the dojang or while waiting for a class or competition. They are all a fun bunch, and the relationships created foster a feeling of belonging to a community. To me, the instructors at CPTKD are the best. They are highly skilled and unusually humble, and sincerely care for the advancement and well-being of all the students, regardless of rank. The instructors get involved in demonstrating techniques, and the reasoning and mechanics behind them. They inspire the students. Since making CPTKD my TKD home, I feel like I have improved in my training and have become more aware of my body's abilities and how to safely push them thanks to the instructors. I've been training here (as a woman in her 50's) for about a year and a half, and it's been a great experience. Here's why: 1. Instructors- they're not only highly skilled (most are masters), but are great people. They've taught me, in detail and by taking a lot of time with me, about proper technique, and have tailored many of the kicks and other movements to my ability level. I'm very grateful to them. 2. Classmates- they're serious about training, but tend not to take themselves too seriously. I've come to count several classmates as my friends. 3. General ambiance and community- this is a fun, encouraging, and positive place. It's clean, safety is a priority, and people are down to earth. 4. Fitness- taekwondo training is so much more fun and addictive than any fitness class I've ever tried, and I've tried them all. Even though this review was written about adult classes, all the child and teen classes I've seen have offered the same level of great instruction. Many of the kids (and some of the adults) have competed in local and even national tournaments and have done very well, which is a testament to the great instruction here. read more

My nine-yr-old son and my husband started here this year and they love it. The price is not cheap, but lots of classes are available to him, including weekly family class (that I go to with my son). Plus the place is run very smoothly with a good family feel and I know it won't fold (like the one my daughter went to a couple of years ago). The class has helped my son want to work hard and be more aware of other responsibilities. I love that he insists on being early and being neat with his uniform. My son knows that Master Oatmeal can pull him out of a bad mood and can teach him a lot. The other teachers/masters have been very impressive too especially when they've had to improvise on the spot with a small group. I'm considering joining myself. read more

Sent my 5 year old here for spring break camp. He had no Tae Kwon Do experience and he absolutely loved it. He looked forward to it every day for two weeks. The instructors are enthusiastic, friendly and fun. They did not spend the entire day doing tae kwon do but a variety of activities which he enjoyed immensely. Definitely sending my son here again, considering summer camp as well. read more

I did not mean to check one star. This place deserves no stars. We dedicated my sons life to this place. They promised they were a family and they said they really care about us and our family. My son worked really hard at Tae Kwon and grappling. All they care about is money and they dumped my son the second I questioned an increase in prices for the fifth time. Central Park Taekwondo focuses on building each child's potential through strong instruction and a supportive community. My son joined 2 years ago after his prior Tae Kwon Do school closed. He has thrived due to the individual instruction and attention from the instructors and the welcoming environment created by everyone (instructors, students, staff). During this time, I also observed how female students thrive at CPTKD. So I signed up my daughter this year as well. She is well supported by her instructors, and she is enjoying her classes. To highlight CPTKD's specific strengths: Instructor quality. The instructors have incredible mastery and many have competition experience as well. However, their ability to teach children (a balance between demanding and playful) is what sets them apart. They focus on developing the whole child, not only the physical attributes. Instructor/student ratio. For classes, there are a minimum of 2 instructors. This allows for more personalized instruction for each child. Offerings. There are belt classes but also specialized classes focused on poomsae (forms), sparring, and family classes as well. Flexible schedule. Belt classes are offered 6 days/week. This is helpful with changing schedules for children. Facility. This is a serious training facility that is immaculately maintained. I would encourage any parent considering martial arts for their child to sign up for a trial and come along and observe! read more

We have been going to CPTKD since my older son was 3 years old. He is now 8 and still loves it!!! The Masters and staff are excellent and patient with kids of all ages. The taekwondo, grappling, and sparring classes are engaging and inspiring. The owner/founder Master Teresa is a mom of 3 with a black belt in taekwondo who wanted to create an environment where families can enjoy the art of taekwondo together. She did exactly that!!! My first exposure to CPTKD was during a child's birthday party years ago - when an employee realized I'd been looking through my bag fruitlessly for Advil she walked away and came back with two tablets. She then poured me a cup of fruit-infused water and I was blown away. This is the quality of care you can expect on any given day. My two young friends have been students at this studio for several years since - and of all the activities available to them - basketball, baseball, football, soccer, drama, robotics - Taekwondo is easily the most valuable. The instructors and masters are stellar and the attention they provide the students is individualized and precise. Teresa Throckmorton is a ROCK STAR - the energy she brings to the building is palpable and her passion for the art is infectious. On an aesthetic level the facility is the cleanest I've ever encountered - bathrooms are pristine and waiting/training mats are cared for. On a deeper level - emotional - spiritual - developmental - the teaching of the Taekwondo tenets (courtesy, integrity, perseverance, indomitable spirit) are what I prize above all else. The students at CPTKD are reminded constantly to treat their instructors, fellow students and everyone in their world with consideration and respect - so valuable when kids can be exposed to negative influences elsewhere. In a world where instant gratification is king it's good that children learn that hard work and effort are required to achieve goals - I'll take the joy on a child's face when he's earned a stripe and the pride of holding up a new belt over a generic participation trophy for anything else any day of the week! My 5 year old daughter started at CPTKD last year, and we are absolutely thrilled with her experience there. She is a bit of a perfectionist, and can get very frustrated when she feels she is not learning quickly enough. The teachers, staff and owners bent (and continue to bend) over backwards for her to ensure she felt confident, and excited about learning. They have worked with her privately after class when she has felt discouraged, and have done so with kindness and patience, and impeccable instincts about how to work with children. And no wonder... the owner and management are also warm-hearted and incredibly thoughtful in both their programming choices and their interaction with the families that now form part of the CPTKD community. Not sure what happened to spark the two negative reviews I see here, but for our part, I find everyone involved to be respectful and kind, and very supportive. The owner has created a community, that feels more like a family, and we could not be happier to be part of it. read more
