It is becoming a ritual. She suggested going to Silver Bean Cafe, which is next to Millenium Park. I was game. She said either we could walk over there or drive. I went with the latter, as it was a hot day. I drove us in my rental car over to the cafe. Parking is limited steps away from the cafe. I backed into a spot and we walked over. Thankfully, it wasn't all that busy on a Thursday evening. The way ordering goes is that you go into the cafe to place your order. You then sit outside on the patio with an animal marker and your order come to you. Yay! My friend got a vegan chocolate walnut cookie and an iced coffee. I got a large strawberry lemonade. I saw the person at the counter give a penguin marker to place on his table. I would have loved that one! Instead, we got a dinosaur marker, which made both of us smile. We frankly had way too much fun playing with it on the patio while we waited for our order. A nice man came over several minutes later with our order. The vegan chocolate walnut cookie was massive! I got to have some of it. It was delicious and chocolaty. I am pleased that there are vegan options at this cafe. My large strawberry lemonade was gigantic. It tasted so good. It wasn't insanely sweet. It was perfect, with the sweet strawberry taste meshing nicely with the tart lemon. I loved it. The patio is lovely. We spent a good couple of hours chatting away. You get a lovely view of the Otonabee River in the heart of downtown Peterborough. It's beautiful and the breeze was much needed! I would come back here for more desserts and sips. After seeing a performance at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre, I needed a drink. I decided to get a drink from McDonald's and opened my app while seated in my parked car. The app had a medium iced coffee for $2. Considering that this day was long, I needed a bit of a caffeine boost to get me home. Sure, it was 9:30 pm. I'll take it! I also got some apple slices. I needed to snack on something as I headed home. Luckily, my drive was just over an hour. This McDonald's was 2.7 kilometres away and is open 24 hours a day. Nearby had a McDonald's inside a Walmart. Both stores were closed. It was a nice drive over to the restaurant. I got to figure out where everything was, from a HomeSense-Winners combo store, to the Grocery Outlet. I made a left turn and followed the signs leading me to the drive-thru. There were two lanes. I took the free one on the left. There was a car to my right that left a few seconds later. I got a man on the other end of the speaker. I gave him my order code. He asked me if I needed to change anything. It was a first and a nice touch. Normally, I don't get that question. I was fine with it. He talked fairly fast and said that I could move up. When I got to the window, it was the same fast-talking man who rattled off an order that I didn't recognize. The second item was a McDouble. I said no. It wasn't my order. It clicked that mine was the mobile order. Yes! He gave me my iced coffee and bag of apple slices. I thanked him and drove off. The iced coffee kept me alert and content. It hit the spot. It sort of curbed my appetite. The apple slices were the perfect snack. They were crunchy and naturally sweet. My cheese slice was on the outside of the box which any staff member definitely would have noticed while making the item but obviously didn't care. Items were forgotten and we waited in the pull up spot only for more items to be forgotten. Staff needs better training and to actually give a damn about their work.
