There are personal trainers doing training in inappropriate spaces and annoying classes taking place in the middle of the floor with loud, awful music. The pod entrances are frankly weird, and I don't understand the point of them. For barbell training, this place is no use, with only one power rack and one 20kg Olympic barbell.

Not…read moreexclusively those in full time education, but anyone with a busy lifestyle who wishes to improve their overall levels of fitness without making the serious financial commitments asked by premium gyms, without compromising on basic standards such as cleanliness, staff and equipment. At £15.99 a month 'The Gym' is the cheapest in the Glasgow City Centre area I am aware of, even when taking into account other gym's student discounts. Signing up is done entirely online which I found easy and convenient. This is not a contract, and may be cancelled at any time at no cost (convenient when I travel back home for summer). The location is very convenient, only a couple of minutes away from Glasgow Central Station. It's open 24 hours a day, and whilst I can't say I've yet used it in the small hours when it is unmanned, there are plenty of contact points should a problem arise. All my dealings with the staff have shown them to be friendly, approachable and importantly enthusiastic towards their work. Personal training is offered, and each PT has a small profile detailing their specialist areas and contact details on a display board in the gym area. At a glance everything from muscle building, weight loss and nutritional advice is offered. Scheduled classes are also offered, and whilst I have never participated, there seems to be a wide variety. I have never found that these classes get in the way of my own work out, with them all taking place in a fairly spacious matted area out the way of most equipment. Standards of cleanliness seem very high. The changing rooms and showers are immaculate, and the staff regularly do cleaning rounds of the machines and fixtures. My only gripe would be that the gym rule for patrons to wipe down their machines with a towel after use does not seem to be enforced. Naturally this is the fault of those people themselves, but perhaps more prominent signage would help this. The equipment itself seems to be of a high standard and a good quantity. Even at peak times I have never struggled with finding cardio machines. Fixed and free weights are more crowded, but either side of the peak hour there are few problems. The gym's website features a graph showing the busiest hours, along with your own usage times. Furthermore it features a blog which provides fitness tips, ideas and motivation; It's small things like this which do provide that little bit more value for money. All in all an excellent gym! I would fully recommend it to anyone who wishes to tone up or lose the odd pound without breaking their bank balance or busy lifestyle.

He (i shall call him he) sits there all day just quietly reminding me about the beer and pizza ans chips and whisky and chocolate and crisps and juice I've guzzled down. Perhaps you say, perhaps the ire of my anger should be towards the afore mentioned beer and what not and not the innocent outcome of my gluttonous actions? Perhaps, I say, perhaps you should shut the shut up! Anyway. Rightly or wrongly, i hate this wee dude and have finally decided to terminate his existence. But how? Well, since i'm writing a review about a gym, you may dear reader, assume that i'll be saying bye bye belly with the aid of exercise. You would be right. This i cannot argue against. So with a heavy belly and a heavy heart I joined the Pure Gym due to utter convenience (i work nearby) and the 'oooooh, that's cool and allows me to opt out if/when I cannie be arsed anymore' single month contract system. Nae year contract for this lasy barsteward! So, the beef burning beef? Well, as gyms go it seems to have all the gear you'd need to shed those extra pounds and tone up whatever's left over. I've just recently become a convert to running, so the appeal of these and a wee shower afterwards is pretty much all I'm after just now. Equipment wise, it seems to have all the mod cons. Runny things. Rowy things. Bikey things. Weight lifty things and what have you. It's clean (although the shower did smell a wee bit stinky), fresh, well lit and fairly welcoming even if the entry system does feel a wee bit like you're entering the safe zone in some sort of post apocalyptic zombie flick. Apparently the joint can be pretty busy at times, but today I popped in at around 2ish and it was fairly quiet. It'll do for noo. Classes and what not, other words, amenities, assistance and other relevant words. Yeah.

I used to be really self conscious when I was younger and went to the gym, I really didn't like carrying all that 'festive weights' and trying to get rid of it in front of people would clearly didn't need to. Now I don't care at all but Fitness First for women would have been great for me back then. The gym itself is so accessible being on Sauchiehall st so whether you are shopping, at uni or work, it is easy to get to, and even maybe for a pre-going out gym boost. I went to this gym on a free day trial, which you can get from the website. I liked my experience because no matter what, its nice to have a minute or two when you don't have to bother about your appearance. I didn't get a membership here because I would rather go to the gym with my boyfriend than by myself, and the membership fees are pretty steep for the facilities you get. But most in the city centre are, you are paying to save your time and be away from those terrible boys. :)

As soon as i entered i was by two smiley lovely girls who were chatty, i then asked were the changing rooms were as i hadn't been before and they were more than happy to give me a quick tour! The gym itself is a nice size not too big or intimidating, there is plenty of the usual equipment treadmills, cross trainers etc. There was also the usual weight machines but these were a bit dated and the resistance felt a bit weird to the more modern ones im used to, but nevertheless they did the job! I liked the fact the had punch bags and mitts etc meant i could take my frustration out!!! One more machine the had was the 'power plate' i had never been on one of these but had heard quite alot about them- like they give you a full body work out in 10 minutes. I saw a few women using it then fort i would have a go myself! There was a chart on the wall showing all the varying positions and techniques to make the most of the machine. I chose the positions and intensity then pressed start.... I have never experienced anything like it in my life i hated it!! the intensity was soo high i could feel my muscles rippling my eyesight was going funny n everything! I was supposed to hold it for 60 seconds but couldnt handle it haha! I take my hat off too anyone who can use it more than 1 minute!! :P

For anyone who was a member of LA Fitness before, this branch was bought over by Sports Direct Fitness, and the layout is pretty much the same. I say little, as it isn't the biggest in the world, and in terms of equipment doesn't compete with the PureGym and similar, but for the size it has a good selection of cardio machines, fixed weight machines and a free weight section. It also runs regular daily classes, has a spin studio (otherwise known to me as The Room of Doom...seriously, how can anyone even get through a spin class without throwing up or crying?!?) and an extra studio space for classes. The biggest selling point for me over the "no frills" gyms popping up everywhere, was the addition of a swimming pool and sauna. I injured my toe so need a gym where I can swim regularly, and while it's not the biggest pool in the world, it's good to have the option. Membership options start at 6 month minimum terms, which while not a rolling month by month contract, is nicer than being locked for a year, and is only £25 per month. So far so good.

I joined this gym last December to mainly use the pool facility. Since this time the pool has been…read moremany times closed due to 'water levels problems'. This was unexpected, and really disappointing when someone decide to go swimming and pay a monthly fee for a facility which they cannot use for no reason. Once I was asked to leave while in the pool due to water problems again! Very strange there always seems to be water problems. That day someone was in the changing room with an open wound at their foot. This maybe explains why the water levels were down. It is unfortunate but I don't think I should have to deal with this and have to swim in water where people have skin problems (and maybe catch something!!!) I have also been in the pool with people wearing inappropriate clothing (i.e.:underwear). This is not on either. They were told to leave but it happened again. Another time in the sauna someone was scrubbing themselves with a brush with all the dead skin falling off. And then more recently, I came in on a Monday morning, I was told the pool was not open and this will probably for the whole week! I was advised to phone back before coming back to make sure it was opened again. When wanting to leave my membership, they still made me pay the 3 months notice, really really disappointing.

A place where you can feel pampered and in a place with an atmosphere of solitude and tranquillity with the use of Serene Victorian Turkish Suite, Steam room and saunas and Victorian slipper baths and hot tubs (which are gender segregated see link for more details*) Its got a bar in which they host occasional small concerts and since its run by its members, anyone can propose something special for the space. It has awesome rings and trapeze over the pool that is as entertaining for adults as it is for kids. They have a slightly cooler pool that is filtered with charcoal filters and UV so that they don't need to use harsh chemicals, so an all round nicer experience than your regular pool and possibly better for those with sensitive skin. The gym up stairs (formally the Billiards/Snooker Hall) hold a good range of equipment and should fit your needs should you want to burn some calories or work on those glutes! Ill end in saying that a little more expensive it may be than your regular pool but it is SO worth it, so check out the memberships options, get a free pass or come in on doors open day, you wont regret it. To say this place is old school doesn't really cover it. From the swimming trunks on pegs in the main reception to the shoe hall just through the double doors. This place is steeped in the tradition and the way things used to be done.....not sure if this is by design or if they simply cant be bothered to change things... With amenities such as a decent sized pool, which i might add has a trapeze and ring swings, a sauna, gym and snooker room, reading room and bar. The Arlington offers a full experience. The one thing that does set this place apart from other gyms has to be the Turkish room which has to be scene. Its a wonderfully hot room with a spectacular stained glass ceiling, a real treat. A great place if a little grubby and in need of a little decorative TLC.

Needing to fit more exercise into my daily life and seeing a Todays Great Deal groupon-of-sorts for…read more28 sessions for £15 (normally £30), I decided £15 was no great loss for a little experiment and went for it. Well, I am glad I did! Silly as it seems, it actually works. I know, I didn't really think it would either. But I can already see the improvement. Basically you stand on this plate that very quickly see-saws under your feet. The act of bracing yourself works your muscles. Each session lasts ten minutes so it's very easy to slot into your daily routine. The website exaggerates a bit--you can only burn 500 calories if you do it at the highest setting, and you only want to do the highest setting if your goal is to bulk up and enter a body building competition. But, you can burn a very decent 200 to 300 calories in ten minutes, all without sweating. You can go in your work clothes--you just have to take off your shoes, and the machines are sterilized after every use. The spot itself is a bright, clean and welcoming spot. The owner (I think?) Aisla is very helpful and is keen to get people on the machines and feeling comfortable. It's a very "no judgement, go at your own pace" kind of vibe. So yeah, do it. It's fast, it's easy, and if you're eating right, you will lose weight. Nice.

Well I had to leave with early cancellation I sent the following to harlands ( people who process…read morepayment) and they said it has to be done via not the head office of xercise4less only the gym you signed for. I was giving false emails and then giving the general manager who never answered. This was email sent I need to know how to early cancel on health grounds I signed up in January and waited till branch opened in April 29th. I thought I could go, I really wanted to, but since I went I have had sickness, diarrhoea, heart palpitations and seizures. I have Asperger's syndrome, epilepsy, pseudo seizures and anxiety. Now I felt that I could with support cope with the gym and be ok but it's making me ill. I can't go the loss of the money and if you not able to cancel my contract, I'll still need to come as I can't waste money, i know that's not good on health grounds but who wants to lose money. People would say it's risky but I don't wanna lose money. But if you can help me id be grateful, I have only been once and the one before is a PT session I paid for. Can you email me back and I'll go to a doctor if you need and the branch was aware of my seizures. Thanks for your time and consideration But three times even took to Facebook to get a response but nothing, then kelly mcneillie, helped when her a manager didn't give a toss. Now claims that harlands only except doctors letters is a lot of rubbish it's all them Hi Andrew, The only thing that Harlands accept is a letter from you doctor detailing the reason why they recommend you not using the gym on a long term basis, I do appreciate you offer to send the other documents but they would be of no use. I've also recently moved so joining here seemed like a good idea. Located in the old Destiny nightclub, Xercise4Less is spread out over several floors. When you join you get a pin number for entry - but there will always be someone at reception to help if you have a problem. It has all the standard cardio and weights equipment, but also has a martial arts cage, boxing ring and really big studio space where most of their classes are held - and there's at least 40 of them each week. You book online for these - and there's no additional cost for then. Oh, and there's a serious lack of mirrors here for those who don't want to watch themselves get red and sweaty. It's a budget gym, but it has exactly what I want.
