I walked through the unit, talked to her, and explicitly expressed my interest. I even asked her ahead of time through Zillow what the application process was before I viewed the unit. She told me to text her with my email address so she could send me the link to apply. BEFORE I EVEN LEFT THE BUILDING, I TEXTED HER FOR THE APPLICATION. She never sent it to me. About 2 hours later, I messaged her through Zillow. She never sent it to me. The next morning, at 9:00 am, I messaged her through Zillow for the third time. She finally sent the application. I completed the application through RentSpree and called her later that afternoon to make sure she received it. She told me she received it, but "already had two other applications." If she had given me the application as soon as I requested it, BEFORE I LEFT THE UNIT, I would have been the first in line. She discriminated against me, most likely because I'm not Asian, and purposely withheld the application link because she knows BY LAW, the first application must be processed. I have great rental history, a very high FICO score, and am gainfully employed, but she knew that if I were the first to apply, she would have to process my application. She didn't want me to apply. In my opinion, she is racist and discriminatory.

My plan was to drive to LA each time a promising listing appeared on Zillow. I needed an agent who was patient, flexible, understood that I wasn't going to settle for just any house that didn't match my needs, and let me primarily drive the search, while also sending me listings that fit. I had to reject one agent who wasn't interested in my approach. Enter Javier and Ana! I was so lucky to find them here on Yelp. They let me drive the search and only contacted me when a listing came up that matched my criteria. Often, they contacted me about one I was already interested in, having seen it appear that day on Zillow. This shows that they really listened to me. They never tried to show me houses that didn't fit, just to rush the process. I went to LA a couple of times and visited houses that looked good online but, for one reason or another, I didn't like the houses when seeing them in person. It only took about three months for us to find a very, very good match which checked all my boxes. I drove to LA, visited it, and made an offer that day. Javier got my offer accepted against two competing offers. While in escrow, he kept a sharp eye on the details, informing me along the way. He was consistently accessible whenever I had questions. Any R.E. transaction has some surprises and some stress, and so did this one. Javier and Ana took it all in stride, explained my options, and always put my interests first. They have an extensive understanding of the market. Despite the house being a rare find, they were able to negotiate a significant price reduction to cover a portion of the repairs that my buyer's inspector had identified. We closed escrow, and happily, the house is now mine. They truly put my interests first from the beginning of the search process to close of escrow. With our reckoning with high mortgage rates, historically low inventory, and inflation, we were nervous about purchasing a property in 2023. Javier and Ana were phenomenal in exercising patience, round the clock support, sharing real estate insight, assertive negotiating, and significant intervention in ensuring all of the pieces: loan, insurance, escrow, etc were aligned so we would lock in the property. The housing market was still "popping'" given the low interest rates & low inventory, the competition was fierce! My wife and I rented throughout our lives and were anticipating purchasing a home, considering we were expecting our first born within the next few months. As first-time home buyer, we didn't know what we were doing without the slightest clue on what closing costs or a fixed interest rate was! All we had was a dream of moving out to Redlands as soon as possible. After perusing through Redfin while working night shift one night, we found a home that was newly listed. It looked promising, but again, we didn't know what we were doing! We had absolutely no one to show us the property! At the risk of losing out on a potential purchase, we reached out to Jeff for the first time that morning, requesting to see that property. In hindsight, this was an insane approach and an unreasonable request! But bless this man's heart ... Jeff Kack MADE THIS HAPPEN. Seeing this, I knew I wasn't dealing with the majority of personalities we encounter in our current social landscape. Jeff was and continues to be a special dude that ALWAYS looks out for others, and for this, I'll always be grateful for. We closed back in late 2021, and Jeff continues to maintain contact TO THIS DAY. In fact, it was Jeff's persistence in which we went out for coffee this past weekend just to catch up, and I had a blast! He continues to be an invaluable resource, which reminds me of one time when my toddler had spontaneously activated my home alarm (which had never been used since I moved into my home) roughly 2 years after the purchase. With precious seconds counting down until the system armed the motion detectors and sirens, I phoned a friend (Jeff) after not speaking to him for months, and although he was in the middle of putting his infant to sleep (again, so sorry, Jeff), he found the PIN code and texted it over to me, successfully disarming the alarm.
