Internet connection was slow over the Christmas holiday - okay, heavy Amazon traffic. It continued into the new year - including regular internet drops (per system tray icon) - even with restarting our router modem. I called Brightspeed (who took over our CenturyLink account) and all they could tell me was that I needed to increase speed (we are already maxed at 10 mg download) because we have too many devices using the internet (two laptops and two smart phones, no gaming). Could not convince the agent otherwise, so I asked to have a tech come to our home and all the agent could say was that it would cost $100 and they would not be able to tell us any different. So I asked to speak with a supervisor. The agent supposedly transferred me to the supervisor's phone where we were on "ignore" (i.e., hold) for 60+ minutes (yes, over an hour) without the supervisor ever taking our call. The worst company I have ever dealt with. If there were any other internet provider in the area I would drop them in a heartbeat. No one ever answers the Platteville office phone, and if you're lucky enough to catch someone they will put you on hold and then hang up. I went in to resolve issues and was not greeted at the door, was told that they couldn't do anything to help me at that office. Waste of my time. They have tons of 800 numbers with very nice but unhelpful people who will just tell you to unplug and restart your modem. My internet was out for over a week, multiple technicians not showing up to the repair appointment. The customer service 800 numbers just kept telling me he was on his way, ended up waiting 8 hours and no show or call to explain. Best they could do was reschedule. It is barbaric to have to pay for internet when it isn't even working and they are in no hurry to fix it!!! It took 3 missed technicians for them to finally send someone out to my house. I argued for a credit to my account for the days I went without internet. You need to be authoritative to get anywhere with this company. read more

They don't even deserve a star. We have been waiting for over a month now for CenturyLink to show up. This branch definitely uses being the only Internet provider, in the Platteville area, to their benefit. Monopolies are illegal for a reason. In this case, not because of the money they could be benefiting from but because there's no other alternative for people in this city and other towns in the area to go to. Time Warner Cable, Spectrum, Frontier, AT&T, or any other internet provider. PLEASE OPEN A BRANCH IN PLATTEVILLE TO SAVE US FROM HAVING TO USE CENTURYLINK! read more

I called century link 4 times- got bs answers 1) they are on their way- 2) running behind 3) can't find the order. 4). They are calling the tech to see where he is & will call me back. Horrible internet services!! We literally call 1-3 times PER WEEK because the internet signal kept dying! And EVERYTIME we call, the first thing they do is give us a different number to call because the number we called isn't within our state. If you're lucky, you land a representative that is polite but most of them do not know WTF they're doing and they don't know anything about the service they sell. They are literally useless people! And if they don't know what they're doing, you will be transferred to 2-3 other representatives who also doesn't know what they're doing also. I would NEVER recommend this internet service to anybody at all. It's a really crappy internet service with crappy representatives who just goes to work to collect paycheck. read more

Hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with. We were pushed back 5 different times for a month!!! I have called the supervisor number 2 times and it still got me absolutely no where but they gave us our first two months free. We have had our internet for 1 week and now it is not working again and technicians cannot be here for another week because "they are behind". Calling the local Platteville CenturyLink also gets you no where and the customer service line could care less about your concerns, they just try to get you off the phone as soon as possible. Since they are the only internet provider in Platteville they think that they can treat you however they please, because it's a college town and you need internet so you HAVE to go with them. These reviews should be telling the city of Platteville something..... DUMP CENTURYLINK ! The Downtown office in NEVER open anymore to conduct any type of local business. I was going to up grade my internet package to include their so called PRISM that they claim is so wonderful....Set up an installation appointment and guess what their techs were a no show called the 800 number and got told the same thing that everyone else has been told: "They are running behind" or They are on their way! Well guess what THEY WERE A NO SHOW, NOT JUST ONCE BUT 3 TIMES!!! I made 3 appointments over the phone with reassurances that the job would be done! The best is yet to come though...... After the third time I called and told them to FORGET IT.. CANCEL IT that I would stay with my WIRELESS INTERNET after they had given me the OH,GEE WE'RE ARE SORRY SPIEL,ONE WEEK LATER...,a knock on the door when I open it there stood 2 technicians from, you guessed it CENTURY LINK wanting to hook up my prism ! CenturyLink is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I tried to help my mom set up Internet services through them. The incompetence was breathtaking. After getting a recommendation from my mom's building supervisor to use CenturyLink because all the other people in the building use them, I called CenturyLink, only to be told that service is not available in the building! Had to call back several times to get someone who knew what they were talking about and get installation scheduled. Then the reps were confused about whether someone needed to come out to do the install or whether they were going to just send a router and make us install it. I had to talk to a supervisor to get that straightened out. Then they missed not ONE, not TWO, but THREE different installation appointments, with NO CALL even letting us know what was going on. Finally, an installer came and took care of it, but service kept cutting out. It finally seems to be working somewhat normally, fingers crossed! What this company needs is some competition in the area. They would be out of business in no time if there were other good providers in the area. read more
