Apparently, they do not have access to 8" gutters, and I was told they didn't have the equipment to install them anyway. They can only do 6" gutters. Maybe I am wrong, but I would have thought that would simply require a different size wrench if anything. Anyway, it very much seemed like they just did not want our business.

I contacted Swegles Quality Handyman Service through YELP for a quote. A Matt Swegle came out July 9th, 2026 to measure and check the job out. I told Mr. Swegle that Barry County Lumber, the local lumber and hardware store, had the railing I wanted for $90 plus wall fasteners. At no time during my interactions with Mr. Swegle did I say I wanted the 'cheapest railing available.' I said that I wanted a "matching railing with the one I already had installed." Mr. Swegle quoted $365.00 for the job. I had no other quotes for the railing and installation, but I told Mr. Swegle that I considered that quote very high for the work. After Mr. Swegle's employee finished the work, I was surprised and upset to discover an unfinished dowel rod railing installed which did not match the other railing at all. I contacted Mr. Swegle and asked when they were coming to varnish the handrail and finish the job. Mr. Swegle became very angry and proceeded to scream at me over the phone that "You asked for the cheapest!" At no time did I say the words "the cheapest" in regards to the railing. I had asked for "a matching railing" After telling Mr. Swegle this, I was told it would be an additional $50-$100 to return to finish the job and varnish the railing.

Lynne and her husband, John, came in with a VERY reasonable bid for a large bedroom, with heavily damaged drywall from the removal of wallpaper. One other bid was more than twice as much. They had advice on help choosing a paint color (design ladies at Douglas & Sons are great), and did an oustanding job repairing the drywall damage and painting the room. They were here two days and left me with a beautifully finished room. I'll be calling on them again when we redo our hall/stairwell later this year. They're also the nicest people to work with. I first attempted to contact Advantage Roofing in October of 2021 for an estimate on a new roof. I…read morewas promised that someone would show up and provide an estimate in an email the following week or so but that never happened and I called the company back a few more times with no avail. I felt like they didn't want my business but my neighbors used them so I tried a few more times and finally got Jessie Cunningham and his side kick to show up for an inspection and provide me a proper quote. Here is the email I got from Jessie after he send me a quote: "Hello Trevor, I was just thinking about you and wanted to touch base with you to see if you or your wife had any questions and to see where you are in the decision making process for the roof project. I am here for you to be your project partner and want to do anything I can to make the project work for you. Let me know, Thank you" Pretty nice follow up. I was taking some time to talk to the wife about his $20k quote and thinking about it and replied with this: "$20k is way more than I thought this project would cost. I'm going to have to check around to see what others in my community paid and do some comparisons before I pull the trigger." To my surprise Jessie rudely responded: "No problem, that price is technically only good for 7 days anyway do to price increases. I understand wanting to check around for a cheap roofing company and I know we are not cheap so I am not offended if you can't afford us. I just wanted to stay in communication so I didn't leave you feeling like you weren't taken care of. I know you were persistent about getting a quote right away so I'm glad I could make that happen for you atleast. You should have no problem finding a cheap company cause there are many of them out there but please let me know if you need any assistance in the future." My response: "There are many things in life that I won't go cheap on and buying a new roof on my home is not one. I don't intent on going with a "cheap" company. Honestly I was going to use your company but after your insulting email I'm definitely not. Just because I have a budget in mind doesn't mean I'm too poor to afford your prices. And who the hell would want a "cheap" roofing company on a house in this neighborhood anyway? So sorry to waste your precious time coming out for a quote. I made the mistake and thought you were a honest and reputable company but clearly after your insulting email I was wrong. Do yourself a favor and take some courses in customer service.
