Rating: 1/5 Stars I am writing this review on behalf of our 20-unit townhouse community to warn others about our experience with CertaPro Painters of Salt Lake City. Hiring this company was a major mistake that has left our community with sub-par results and an unresolved mess. They did not live up to their contract in any capacity. The quality of work was so poor that we had a representative from Sherwin Williams come out to inspect the job. They measured the paint thickness and confirmed it barely met even the absolute minimum standards. Furthermore, Sherwin Williams explicitly stated they would not warranty the product because of the poor application techniques used by CertaPro--specifically, the paint had been watered down so excessively that it compromised the integrity of the finish. We spent nearly two years attempting to resolve this with them. We met in person with the owner, Paul Limburg, and the project manager, Adam VanSleeuwen. During that meeting, they acknowledged that they had failed the project and explicitly agreed they would make it right. Relying on their word, we even paid them additional funds to facilitate the repairs. After taking that money, they abruptly pivoted and informed us they were walking away from the project entirely, claiming they could not "meet our needs"--even though those needs were explicitly outlined in the contract they signed. They have wasted hundreds of hours of our community's time, taken our money, and left us with a failing, low-quality paint job that we now have to pay someone else to fix. I had this company put a door hanger on my front door today. To do so the person had to walk past 2 of 3 No Trespassing signs. My property is posted and one of the reasons is to keep unwanted solicitors from coming on my property. Since this company cannot respect my No Trespassing signs I most certainly would not trust them to do any painting on or in my house. This was disrespectful and unnecessary for them to commit criminal trespass just to try to drum up business. Not a company I would trust. read more

Pricing was fair. Very through review and quote with lots of pictures of paint needs. Very professional. Loved Lori- the color specialist to help pick house colors! She was incredibly helpful!! Loved our painter- Arturo. He was extremely detailed and always erred on side of caution when taping off and covering our property (including cars!) to make sure of no overspray. A worker did come back, but not at the agreed upon time. I was told by Kyle that there was a company party at Lagoon that week and due to that, he couldn't get anyone there until the following week. Then a worker showed up the next day- unannounced, but I had already scheduled window cleaners for that same time. Clearly painting and window washing cannot be done at the same time. I told the worker he would have to come back next week when they were originally scheduled to. I have never heard anything more from your company. Quite frankly, it is not my job to keep calling you to do the work you have promised, and been paid to do. read more

I have used CertaPro painters in the past and always found them to be thoroughly professional in their work and helping me find the right color and making sure I was satisfied. Their prices are fair and even less than other bids I received. If you hire a friend or a relative, they might not do the work as well and you have no recourse. They make sure you're happy with the work. You, only paint once, not every year. read more

We are thrilled with our experience! We got quotes from a few different companies, and CertaPro had the best price for more options (a few hundred dollars lower than the other, and including doors and trim). We also took advantage of their free color consultant which was incredibly helpful! Luis and his crew did our painting in quick 2.5 days. They worked so hard, and I was amazed at how much detail prep work they did, filling in so many holes and dings, taking down the blinds, helping move furniture, cleaning, etc. They were also super friendly and great communicators. Our house is transformed and it's so much more than just the wall color! The trim and doors are gleaming clean and white, and all the scuffs and holes are gone. We are so happy! We were planning to paint our bedroom by ourselves but now that I've seen what professionals can do it's so tempting to hire them again. read more

*Please read before engaging with CertaPro. If you're looking for a quick summary, Certapro is essentially asking me to settle for a home that looks like the pictures above--that there isn't anything they can do about it. Certapro painted my house back in May of this year and they did a wonderful job. So much so that I left a 5-star review. The labor crew did a great job and I didn't have any complaints. The issues came after that which is why I'm amending this review. The above picture is my house only a month later. The color has trapped the heat in my vinyl is not only warping but shifting (hence the areas that are showing missing paint). When we first called Certapro, they were very optimistic about the remedial process. The warranty that came from the Benjamin Moore (who certified that their paint would be compatible with vinyl and clearly wasn't) would simply replace the vinyl with a material that could manage the darker color (free of cost) and once that was done, Certapro would repaint the new siding (free of cost). Voicemail to prove it. This was so much of an issue that Benajmin Moore said they would be removing this color from their vinyl collection so that future customers wouldn't fall victim to this issue. Everyone was in agreement that Certpro wouldn't have painted with this color and we wouldn't have chosen this color if we knew it wouldn't be able to work with vinyl. Sucks but Certpro assured us everything would be resolved. Fast forward 3 months and we are nowhere closer to the solution. Until I escalated to his manager, the Certapro employee we were working with dropped off the mapped and ignored all our calls. When we did finally make contact after several weeks, he straight up said "I don't know how to do this." With this being month three, we just asked if he could cut him out and work with the Benjamin directly and come back to him when we were ready for the second paint job. He happily agreed. We quickly got together bids and sent it to Benjamin Moore so that they could issue a check for the cost of replacing the siding with fiber-cement so that it could be compatible with the darker color. To our surprise, they said Certapro had already submitted a bid but it was for a bid for the EXACT SAME materials that had proven to be incompatible with the paint color. The paint provider is now saying they will not pay for a different material, only what is presently on the home today, despite Certapro guaranteeing the opposite months earlier. NOW, as of today, Certpro is also saying that when/if we choose to replace the vinyl, they'll have to charge us again to paint. Where does this leave me? It leaves me either paying out of pocket to upgrade the materials of my house and paying Certpro AGAIN to paint my home OR allowing the pain provider to replace the vinyl with the same incompatible vinyl (free of charge), to be painted the same color (paid out of pocket), to then be fully warped again by the end of the year (aka. Pay thousands of dollars for a solution that will last me 3 months). Oh, and did I mention that it won't be covered under a new warranty UNLESS we decide to pay out of pocket for a more premium siding. I'm writing this review because I'm pleading that Certapro right this wrong. When I reached out to Certapro back in May, I was in the business of painting my home, NOT replacing the exterior of my home. The fact that Certapro is refusing to accept any ounce of responsibility is absolutely ridiculous. From what I can tell, the grounds crew is fantastic but the management is not only incompetent, but the furthest thing from customer-focused. read more

From the reviews currently on Yelp, it is clear that CertaPro has teams that do a great job. However, CertaPro also has teams that are not great. My experience was not great, from beginning to end. Firstly, it was very difficult to get in touch with our Estimator after he came to our house. He told us we would have our estimate that evening, which seemed surprisingly fast, but we didn't end up receiving our estimate until several days later and after calling twice to inquire. After we received the bid and decided to go with CertaPro, scheduling also took multiple days. We tried calling the Estimator's cell phone in addition to the office number, to no avail. Finally, I received a text on a holiday saying the painters would be available the following day; we were surprised with the timing but grateful to finally be moving forward with our project. We were hoping the Estimator was just busy and that our experience with the painters would be better. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The painters were scheduled to arrive at 8:30 and didn't show up until 10:00. The Foreman didn't know anything about the job, despite the Estimator's claim that he had told him about all of the details. He seemed very young (18ish?) but was friendly and seemed to understand what areas were in need of painting and which areas to avoid when my husband showed him around. Despite clear instructions not to get paint on the trim (we were stripping paint to restore the original wood), the painters didn't properly tape off the areas and got paint on our freshly stripped wood. They also got paint on our countertops, light fixtures, toilet, and on our home's original aggregate flooring (among other places - see my pictures). There were so many messy edges when they were "done", my husband had to spend 2 hours pointing out everywhere that needed fixing before he signed off on the job. At one point, someone in the crew had a bowel movement and clogged up one of our toilets, and JUST LEFT IT for someone else to deal with. When my husband went to use it and noticed the mess, he asked the crew to unclog the toilet. Someone plunged the toilet but got poop all over the outside of the toilet, so my husband had to again get them to clean that up. Surely everyone has clogged a toilet at one point in our lives. No big deal. But clogging a client's toilet and then leaving poop all over it? One of my 1st grade students could surely explain all of the problems with this incident. Probably the most frustrating part about all of this was that we got a call a few days later asking us to rate how CertaPro did. My husband described everything that had happened. The man on the phone's response was, "Okay, thank you!" and hung up. Maybe he was someone in a call center who was contracted to do random surveys for businesses, but you'd think that someone would have at least followed up after a review like that? Does CertaPro look at their customer satisfaction surveys? I am giving CertaPro 2 stars instead of 1 because, when all was said and done, they did a better job than I would have. But I am still trying to figure out how to get the paint off our floor and trim, and mistakes like these are why people hire "professionals" instead of doing it themselves in the first place. read more

Horrible paint job. Charged me $500 extra to remove remnants of previously removed vines. Wasn't done! Painter never power washed either. Painted straight over the bits of vine and dirt. Left bare spots on every side. Over sprayed onto my porch and windows. Paint actually dripped after it rained, off my gutters onto my porch. My porch rails weren't power washed or sanded...just zero prep and flaked on day 2! They came out to fix mistakes and again did a half done job. I am still waiting to hear back as to whether they will come fix. Don't bother emailing upper management. The guy who emailed me for my feedback who is the one who runs SLC never returned at least 3 emails. No one here gives a hoot about quality. Sad and pathetic to do this to paying customers. I contacted Miguel at CertaPro to get an estimate. When I tried calling to accept it he didn't answer. He didn't return calls. When I left a message with his manager I got a call from Miguel. He said he would send a formal quote to get it scheduled. I never received the quote. Apparently they don't need the business. Total waste of time! read more

I loved the fact that I was able to get a quick response from CertaPro, I have been in search of someone who can help us out with some Stucco work. So when I received a message from "Paul" to call and schedule an appointment for someone to come out and provide quote, I was excited. However, when I called this morning and asked for Paul, the person who answered the phone mentioned he wasn't there. Then I continued by informing her that I was calling because I had received the message. Mind you I was happy that someone had even answered, because everyone I have been calling only had answer machines, and I've been leaving messages. Unfortunately, it seems that I was bothering them with my phone call. Jackie had the type of attitude that makes you not even want to bother. Yet I tried to go along for the sake of obtaining an estimate, and every word I gave her she asked me to spell out for her, which I normally wouldn't have a problem doing, except her attitude was the problem. So, I asked for an email to send her all the details as opposed to having to repeat and spell out everything for her. She then mentioned she didn't have an email, and when I told her I would just message Paul to call me when available. She immediately stated "Paul didn't send you the message, I sent you the message, and I'm the one who schedules calls!" Honestly, it's way too early for this and I rather not deal with rude people like her, so I put her on hold to take a deep breath, and she disconnected my call immediately. Well thank you for that Jackie, maybe you're having a bad day, but regardless be nice or you will continue to make people turn away from your company. We used CertaPro to paint the entire exterior of our house and several places inside the house as well. Overall our experience was excellent as we were completely taken care of by Ed and his crew. They crew makes all the difference and I cannot recommend these people enough. I was out of the country for work but they were so nice and considerate to my wife. They went above and beyond to ensure all of our needs were met. They even mowed our lawn while I was out of town. I was able to meet them while they were finishing up the job and they were very nice and professional yo work with. I had such a bad experience with this company that I would recommend you steer clear of them. Their estimate was higher than the two other companies I contacted but their TV commercials were well done and I figure you get what you pay for, right? Tyler scheduled me for Sept 25. I called him a week before to confirm and he said I wasn't scheduled until Oct 2. I have two emails from him confirming the Sept date. I also wanted confirm that they used 2 coats of paint. When a crew of three showed up one guy started masking while the another went to get paint. The third person had never painted in his life. (The painting that he did do had to be redone.) His main task seemed to be to help the painter and fetch things. The paint arrived and the guy who went to get it left leaving one painter and a painter's helper - who wasn't any help. The guy who left was supposed to be part of my painting team but was rarely around. One gallon of paint had to be matched to another paint I had already used. They took the paint can I had to Sherwin Williams (the most expensive paint store on the planet!) where they matched the color to the paint in the can. Now, a professional would know that paint, when dry, is darker than that in the can. Not these guys. The second day they came in and took down all the masking. I thought that strange since that didn't leave them time to put on two coats of paint. Sure enough, the old paint (white) was visible through the new paint (medium gray). The masking line along the trim are wavy and very noticeable. They had to paint all the walls again. I asked that my banisters and a handrail be painted. Before hiring them Tyler said they had done that before. The job involved stained oak with a coat or two of polyurethane. The day they started I heard them sanding and was glad to know that they were prepping the surface. I had to leave and when I got back the painting was done and looked pretty good. Later I noticed some scuff marks on the paint revealing the wood and the polyurethane coat that was not removed. I scratched a few more place with my fingernail and the paint easily came off revealing the polyurethane coat that had not been removed. Professionals do not do paint over high gloss or polyurethane finishes because the paint will not adhere to it. These guys did did it anyway. I am currently in the process of stripping their paint job and doing it right. On Saturday the painter asked if he could do some catch up work on Sunday. I told him yes, rearranged my Sunday schedule and gave both my phone numbers so he could call me when he was on his way. I waited until 4:30 pm and he never showed and never called. Certapro will charge you $45 and hour if they have to wait on you but your time is not worth anything. NOT professional and NOT courteous. In retrospect I wish I would have micro-managed every aspect of the job. It seems like the crew was trying to save time and money by NOT doing what should have been done and what was discussed with Tyler before hiring Certapro. I have areas that were over-sprayed. Even over-spray on grout that will not come out. I have areas on my hardwood floors that were over-sprayed and dripped upon. I wish I could upload some photos so you could see that I am not lying or exaggerating. For all their incompetence and my time and money to fix what they did I was offered a $300 reduction. Again, I would strongly recommend that you do NOT hire this company. Unless of course you want to watch every thing they do. Tyler, the crew, the franchise and the Certapro should be ashamed of themselves. read more

We are highly disappointed with our service. CertaPro's estimate was a bit higher than others but we went with them because they seemed more professional. We asked for our deck and a railing to be painted. They also power washed and scrubbed our house siding. To fix the error, they repainted the trim for us but haven't finished the job several weeks later. The painting they did on our deck was pretty sloppy - lots of paint made it on the side of the house and all over our gutters. Workers put wet paint cans on our deck table and left paint rings that aren't coming off (we had moved the table well away from the deck). It just looks like a sloppy job with a lot of clean up left for us afterwards. We are very disappointed and won't use them again. read more

All together a very unprofessional experience. The guys worked with the doors open and turned out A/C to 60 degrees resulting in $1200 repair. They left without hanging any doors back up and got overspray on cabinets, carpet and wood floors. Several areas left unfinished and unpainted. I'm so, so glad I had these guys come to do my simple paint job. I search Angie's list, word of mouth, and Yelp for the best house painters and decided to go with CertaPro. It cost me approx. $580 for two bedrooms with 10 foot high ceilings. It was definitely a fair price. That included paint, tape, and plastic covers for floors and furniture. They did two coats and it looks great. They were polite, kind, and clean. I will definitely use this crew again when I'm ready to paint other rooms. Oh, one of the painters even tightened up the handle on my toilet (without me asking) and re-attached the window blinds I had removed before the job. I'm super happy!! read more

Still scratching my head over this project. I've been in the real estate market for many years and completed many remodels. Hiring Certa Pro for our 1890's Avenues home was the biggest remodeling mistake I've ever made. It all began with a couple of bids. CertaPro gave a decent bid of $16000 compared to some others but I sealed the deal with them because they had the best reviews. Our bid Included wallpaper removal with a small clause indicating that if they could not remove wallpaper they'd float the walls out. During the consultation I asked if texturing the walls would make it easier to hide flaws they insisted that it did not need to be textured and would look great. I trusted them. The painters began their work interior and exterior, every time we stopped by we'd get complaints from them about how hard it is - smh... They peeled off about six inches of paper and left for the day saying they won't be removing it after all. It was never removed nor were the walls floated. The result? Every strip of wallpaper as well as the texture of the wallpaper can be perfectly seen through the paint. After the dining room and living room had been completed for several days we informed the painter he would need to remove the tape and covering from the ground as the floor workers were coming. It was never removed resulting in me spending three hours cleaning up their work peeling masking tape off of my hardwood floors. We have one bathroom that was not complete and the painters agreed to come back and finish the project when the bathroom was complete. At this point they said the rest of the house was complete. We pointed out all of the imperfections and they came back and attempted to touch up one room (the dark colored room) they still never floated the wall and the wallpaper can still be seen. At this point our remaining balance that we owe them is 4000 to be paid when the bathroom is finished. You can see the quality of the work in the photos. Drips EVERYWHERE. Tape left on baseboards and door frames. Bubbling paint. Seams of wallpaper visible. A door and part of a frame left untouched and forgotten. Windows and cabinets painted shut. The pictures don't do this job justice on just how terrible the work is. We tell the owner Tyler that this is unacceptable and his response? "Yeah we could do better, I guess. But it turns out I underbid you on this and I'm not even going to be making money on it" Underbid me? What? I didn't ask for a deal for poor work, I wanted to pay for a job well done. His inability to properly bid a project is now visible in my disaster of a house. After a lot of back and forth he finally agrees to fix a portion of the house. Not any of the bedrooms or the living room. But a hall way, dining room and kitchen he'll fix. I will have to pay him 3 of the remaining 4000 balance before they begin the work though. This job began in June, it's been six months later and they finally agree to begin the fix up work on Monday. I arrange another place to stay so they can work without me here and I get a message two days before the scheduled day stating they can't start that day it will actually be Wednesday. The disappointment with this company has no end. The first ten photos are areas that he will not be fixing and remember these are walls that ARENT textured despite how terrible and textured like the images look. Word of advice - never trust this company with your home. read more

Scheduled to get an estimate to paint a considered home. Arranged many schedules on a holiday, and waited for 30 minutes at the home only to be called and told the local painter didn't have it on his schedule, although the national scheduling service showed it as properly scheduled. We just re-sides our house and went from maintenance free to hardy board that needs to be painted .certapro came in very friendly and extremely professional.they guided us through the entire process.they showed up when they were supposed to. Francisco the Forman of the job was very professional and personable we enjoyed working with Francisco and his crew very much . Please DO NOT select these people! I am still realing after the crappy and disgusting job they did for me 5 years ago! They picked up guys from the local Home Depot who wanted work, but were NOT trained to know how to paint! No one really knew how to speak English, so you could not communicate with them on what you wanted or questions you had. They painted over dirt and other things that to this day I still have to look at every day! It's like they didn't care. I asked them to fix a simple water spot by my baseboard in the bathroom and they did nothing! They just painted over it! Like I wouldn't notice it because I'm a woman! I had a handle bar for towels that I took that out and instead of spackling over the holes and rubbing it out, they painted right over it! I still to this day have to look at that every morning. They rip people off and they don't care. Please please don't choose this company!!! Pay a little more and get some professional, trained people who give a crap what they're doing. This company just finished painting our house this week and it looks amazing! Their crew showed up each morning and covered everything up (including my car in case the wind blew paint over there) and were hard at work until each evening. They were polite, gave me great ideas and cleaned up after each day. Their color expert Lori is amazing! She came to my house and we went through several different colors and she found two that went great together. She really knows how to match colors for the type of home you own, where to highlight areas (if any), and helped us pick a perfect product. Professional and great customer service.
