We had Miss Robin. Amazing teacher, really did help us out and answered all of our questions. She worked hard to help us and her main goal which she mentioned many times was to help us PASS. Which all of us in her class did, with almost perfect marks. Only issue was with primavera. Last day which was our exam day. She was quite rude. Having people come in and out WHILE everyone was taking our final exam. Speaking loudly, and after talking to classmates, everyone was unhappy and thought it was inconsiderate. We deserve a quiet place to do our exam, we all found it hard to concentrate. Not only that but when I had politely asked if we could do the second half of the review for this course after we all finished our exam, she rudely responded. I was being polite. Thats why I found it even harder to have sympathy. We all collectively agreed she was being rude and had been even on our first initial encounter INDIVIDUALLY (when we signed contracts, forms, etc). Also, a lot of supplies and I mean a LOT of supplies ran out the last two weeks. The very last week we didn't even have gloves in Small or Medium sizes. I'm understanding that this is a larger class than they have previously had, but you should be prepared. We all paid good money and we couldn't even practice our draws properly BECAUSE we did not have gloves, ran out of butterfly needles, and much much more.

Saw some sketchy people while driving around the area. Anyway, it was the nearest testing center to me with the date I wanted to test...so you gotta do what you gotta do! The workers that patrol are pretty much test nazis. I mean, I know you have a procedure and certain things you have to say but does that really prevent you from smiling. Thanks for freaking me out more. I already have to take one of the biggest exams of my life, at least you could be calm about checking me in, etc. I had a hair clip in my hair and they told me it was too big and that I had to use a rubberband instead. Ok. They also make you do a palm scan upon entering and exiting the room. I also had to pat myself down. Don't wear things with lots of pockets. You lock your stuff in lockers and can only bring your ID with you into the testing area. But what if you want chapstick...NO, not allowed. Gum, to keep you mentally alert....NO. Water...NO way. Ok, I get it. They also have earplugs (which I didn't use) and noise canceling headphones to block out other typers noise. Those worked ok, but after about 15 min my head would be pounding and I'd have to take them off and let myself adjust. Kind of annoying. Overall, it sufficed. What can you do? They make the rules.

It warms my heart to see that Columbia is still in operation after all these years. When I had attended, it was a brand new preschool and truly the best of its kind. The venue was a large room sectioned off into areas per age range. I recall the place always being immaculately clean and full of awesome, educational books and toys. The part I feel had impacted me the greatest was the wonderful, dynamic staff. I still remember my teachers by name, though I'm sure they have all moved on by now. Four year olds are total sponges when it comes to learning, and I feel that the Columbia staff did a commendable job at preparing me for kindergarten. My days were filled with educational activities which involved a good balance of learning, art, singing, and play. I recall entering kindergarten and being at the top of my class. I cannot comment on the preschool's structure as it is today, but can confidently admit that it was one of the best experiences of my early childhood years. After talking with Elizabeth, the school's director, I felt so peaceful and excited about the school's vision for teaching, and their approach to child lead learning. My daughter has thrived at school! She is a highly spirited, very vocal, and a quite lively child, and she gets everything she needs and more. They have a large outdoor classroom that they utilize every day, that lets children learn through play, and movement, which is so appropriate for their developmental stages. She is already learning math, and doing very well picking up Spanish. It has taught her independence, and build her confidence, and ability to self regulate. I cannot say enough great things about the school's approach to learning! Then there are the teachers, who are some of the nicest people we've met here in Santa Maria. They are patient, they talk to my daughter with respect and kindness. Every time I pick her up, I see teachers down on the kids levels, teaching them, and helping them to solve their own problems between one another. Whenever I ask, they are so quick to share positives that they see in my daughter, and ways she is improving (along with ways that they are helping overcome obstacles that are unique to her in the classroom). I cannot say enough good things. I was recommended through a mom I met at Trader Joe's, and have recommended the school to several of my friends, one of which has recently enrolled her daughter, and is in love with the school too.

How did a simple request regarding keeping my child inside on a cold and wet day escalate to an expulsion? Our main concern was the fear of having our child get sick that would increase the severity of her asthma resulting in us having to give her regular breathing treatments. The owner Elizabeth didn't agree with our request to keep her indoors on a wet day because she operates an outdoor Montessori school. So, I picked up my child on a cold and wet day and soon a flurry of text messages between my wife and Elizabeth resulted in Elizabeth soon determining that her school was no longer a good fit for my child. Take into consideration that all of this was by text message, the professional courtesy of a phone call or a sit down meeting to explain the situation and work together to find a mutual solution NEVER took place. As a parent in Santa Maria finding a preschool is tough enough and the last thing we want to do is criticize or question our childrens teachers. Flaws were always there yet we choose to look the other way. But, sometimes a culmination of flaws must be addressed. We often wondered why other parents were leaving the school. Now I am that other parent looking in and I am speaking up. Multiple lice outbreaks in 1 school year is unacceptable. The facility was always incredibly well cleaned, and cared for and illness was appropriately communicated. My son 7month old started 3 weeks ago didn't even make it to a full week. By the third day I noticed he was starting to feel sick he's eyes were starting to get a bit red, when I dropped him off I noticed a tub of toys in the center with multiple kids around it. As soon as my baby was put down he grabbed a toy and straight to the mouth. I wasn't sure how often toys are sanitized. The fourth day he didn't make it, I let them know that he got super sick. That was my first red flag already, I was upset he got sick the first 3 days been there. Fine ,kept him home for 2weeks until he had no symptoms. Fast forward to yesterday 02/02/2026 I drop him off with no symptoms AT ALL. Only thing was a bit of diarrhea but that was caused due to the medication he was on for been so sick. Around 9-10 Am staff started to message me that he was not participating and couldn't be redirected (what do you want a 7month old to do) ,,, and that he wasn't eating. That he only wanted to be held . I thought ok maybe still early he doesn't have an appetite. Around 11 Am the site supervisor messages me and insist that I have to pick him up because he IS CRYING ! He's not sick or nothing but pick him up because he's CRYING! I couldn't believe that was the reason they wanted me to pick him up. That was another red flag ,,, you are the professional and can't deal with a crying 7month old,, he's teething and he's just a baby obviously he's going to cry. That already told me that you can't handle my baby. I get to the center and he was fine no crying he seemed happy chewing on a toy (again cus he's teething) . He's eyes weren't even red or showing any signs that he had been crying. At this point I was very upset and frustrated , mad and felt discriminated. I got my baby and told the aide I'm taking all his belongings because HE IS NOT RETURNING to this center after how things were handled. Help me understand again you insisted him to be picked up because HE WAS CRYING ????????? Make that make sense ?? So with that been said I DO NOT recommend this place and I hope no other mom feels the way I felt yesterday. I felt horrible at this point I don't know what was happening to my son in there, why he didn't want to eat and why he kept crying like they say he was... THEY PICTURE PERFECT EVEYTHING DURING THE WALK !!! I spoke to other families and they share similar stories of their little ones always getting sick!! Very unhappy and frustrated with this situation.
