Today I had Lingua con pure picante (tongue baked with a sweet tomato sauce, parm, and lumpy mashed potatoes spiced with Merken (one of two spicy seasonings liked by most, adventurous, Chileans). It was awesome - melt in your mouth good. I chased it down with an Austral Calafate Ale - superb. I ate at the bar today, and it offers a great view of the restaurant and an opportunity to watch the bartender whip up Chilean drinks like Pisco Sours and some fresh fruit drinks... Outside seating is comfortable and offers a great opportunity to people watching.

The cazuela was just soup, typical with a huge potato, squash and corn on the cob. The merluza had a light batter and we ordered ensalada Chilena with it. With wine the huge meal was $21,000 pesos. This pub is not the most glamorous, but in a way, that is what makes it so unique and perfect for its location and purpose. It is a simple and cozy pub with photos lining its walls of popular figures such as Chilean sports stars, politicians such as Allende, artists such as Victor Jara and Gato Alquinta (from Los Jaivas) as well as Chilean poets and filmmakers. Quita Penas is one of the historical hubs of Santiago, filled with stories and popular culture, it is here to stay. As it was told to me, everyone has a memory of spending an afternoon here with their family, passing through many emotions from sorrow to laughter. Incredible experience!…read more We were hoping for the opportunity to try a good Chilean Sea Bass, but due to the season found ourselves indulging in the juices of the Patagonian lamb perfectly prepared with putee eggplant and a Carmanere wine glaze. Before we can even decide on an appetizer, we were greeted with freshly warm biscuits that were stuffed with caramelized onions and a cone of tuna Crudo (on the house!). Pro Tip: Request a taste of several wines, including the regional Carmanere (originating from France, but rediscovered in Chile). Camilo provided us with exceptional service and even surprised us with a parting gift! It was a pleasure getting to know him and hope to cross paths with him in the future.
