    The outside sitting area

This place was amazing! I was recently traveling through Oaxaca and Yelp'ed a good place for seafood, I wanted a place by the beach with great reviews. Although this place doesn't have that many reviews we decided to give it a chance because of its location. Boy we were happy we did! When you first walk in, it looks like nothing much, but as soon as you hit the sitting area you can see the great, simple yet hip decoration they have. The restaurant opens straight to the beach. We were early and they weren't open yet, however the owner was there and allowed us to sit and have a cold water while we waited. Once the kitchen opened, I order a "levanta muertos" which is a mix of fish and shrimp ceviche. My friend ordered a black aguachile, and per the suggestion of the server we got the tuna carpaccio to share. Let's start by saying that we are both picky with our seafood, we don't do "fishy" taste, and have found it hard to find places that meet this criteria when traveling. This place definitely makes the list. The ceviche was so tasty and fresh, I could not believe my taste buds! The aguachile is black due to calamari ink that they put in the mix, but although it sounds weird, the taste is perfect. The only down fall was that it was not really spicy (as we are use to) The biggest surprise however was the tuna carpaccio, it was out of this world! There is literally no words to describe it, but you must try it! We both had a coconut mojito that was super delicious! As you can tell I left a huge fan of this place, we got to meet the owner after (super nice dude, very humble!) and thank him for creating such amazing place!

Delicious ceviche! Perfect beachside location. Stellar service!

Amazing ceviche! & truly amazing service! I went by myself and sat overlooking the big waves and had the friendliest waitress give me the best suggestions for my stay in zicatela. She even brought me a complementary shot of mezcal at the end of my delicious meal. I meant to leave a review earlier and was just reminded of this sweet place after looking over my vacation pics! Much recommended!

No sign. A little hard to find the first time. Across from Hotel Arco Iris

Excellent ceviche in a small restaurant in the sand on Zicatela beach. The fish was very fresh and was served with fried tortillas and a small bowl of a creamy aioli made with chiles and a mayonnaise concoction. Unusual, but I liked it. They had other fish and shrimp offerings but I only had ceviche. The service was professional and knowledgeable. There is no sign, except a small board they put out when open. Strange marketing behavior. You can find it by looking directly across the street from the ATM in front of the Arco Iris hotel. It is next to Juqualitas. I posted a photo of how it looks from the street at night.

Exactly what we were looking for.

I asked for the Rona-Rita frappe AGAIN & while I was waiting for my second drink to be made, I was eaten alive by fleas! I looked under the table & fleas & bugs were crawling all over by the thousands!!! I jumped up as the waiter was coming with my drink, that was another "mystery" drink, didn't resemble anything like I had last year, and said "LOOK" pointing to the floor under the bench! I started saying "NO NO NO NO NO, there are FLEAS everywhere!!!" As I started walking out! And he whipped a can of OFF out of his APRON & started spraying like no big deal!!!! This place has gone way down hill & is TOTALLY INFESTED WITH FLEAS!!! What makes it even worse is that they obviously know it & think a can of OFF is going to fix the problem!!!! Nothing is going to fix what I saw with my own eyes except a exterminator. BEWARE!!!!

This is a really fun bar with great staff... We came here twice on our trip to Puerto Escondido…read more. Each time we had either their shrimp or fish tacos.. Waitresses are very cool and really nice.. The vibe is very friendly and laid back.. We met a few different sets of people here that we spent some time with through out our trip.. Not to mention a few of the staff.. I would highly suggest the fish tacos.. In addition to having wonderful fresh fish, their cabbage and accompanying vegetables on the tacos were better than others on Puerto Escondido. It was a little more California style than say a traditional Mexico.. It was also refreshing that they had flour tortillas as we had been eating corn for two weeks straight.,. I would not recommend something like their say, spaghetti with clams sauce but, if you stick to the tacos, they were the best around.. Also a fun place to go for a few beers during the day to escape the hot sun and hang out with some people.

The wait was very long to get our food. It was nice to much on complimentary chips and salsa while we were waiting. Although the food was nicely presented, the food was not as fresh as the other place and not as flavorful either. The service was not very great, but atmosphere was pretty cool. I did enjoy our refreshing drinks though. I think this place is better for drinks and hanging out, not so much as a restaurant.

I've only been there twice and to be honest, I liked Canabrava so much, I went there for 3 great dinners and for a beatiful breakfast on the porch every morning. The service was not the greatest, but the food was great. We tried most of the entree items and everything was really tasty. I would recommend the catch of the day, which is usually - fresh Mahi Mahi. The steak and grilled dishes were great. The beers and mezcal flowed here, but it was always difficult to get our waiters attention. It is such a liesurely atmosphere in Escondido - it's hard to get too impatient when you're in paradise and the waves are crashing 200 yards from the restaurant. Try to get reservations and request a beachside table - these are preferred. I think the breakfasts here are also very nice. My friends had beautiful dishes, I prefer only coffee with the wonderful Pistachio mezcal crema (be sure to buy some bottles of this!!). I always snuck in a small bottle and had an excpetional pistachio coffee every morning to start the day - so damn good! I'm sure there are many, many great restaurants in Escondido, but for proximity to Zicatela, relaxing atmosphere, beach and great food - I highly recommend this spot and I will go there again on my next Escondido adventure.
