I think Yelp needs an update for Zicatela restaurants. Name changes, new, moved, who knows. Anyway, I couldn't find a place called "Fish Tacos and Beer". At about that location Yelp was directing me I found "Rosarita." The beer was cold, the fish tacos delicious. I'm happy. Puerto Escondido is wonderful this time of year - December. read more

This place has some of the BEST fish in Oaxaca....huachinango (red snapper) cooked to perfection. With European potatoes, or garlic and thyme....with awesome salad and tostadas. This place was amazing! I was recently traveling through Oaxaca and Yelp'ed a good place for seafood, I wanted a place by the beach with great reviews. Although this place doesn't have that many reviews we decided to give it a chance because of its location. Boy we were happy we did! When you first walk in, it looks like nothing much, but as soon as you hit the sitting area you can see the great, simple yet hip decoration they have. The restaurant opens straight to the beach. We were early and they weren't open yet, however the owner was there and allowed us to sit and have a cold water while we waited. Once the kitchen opened, I order a "levanta muertos" which is a mix of fish and shrimp ceviche. My friend ordered a black aguachile, and per the suggestion of the server we got the tuna carpaccio to share. Let's start by saying that we are both picky with our seafood, we don't do "fishy" taste, and have found it hard to find places that meet this criteria when traveling. This place definitely makes the list. The ceviche was so tasty and fresh, I could not believe my taste buds! The aguachile is black due to calamari ink that they put in the mix, but although it sounds weird, the taste is perfect. The only down fall was that it was not really spicy (as we are use to) The biggest surprise however was the tuna carpaccio, it was out of this world! There is literally no words to describe it, but you must try it! We both had a coconut mojito that was super delicious! As you can tell I left a huge fan of this place, we got to meet the owner after (super nice dude, very humble!) and thank him for creating such amazing place! read more

The service is terrible and the food is overpriced. The server was practically nonexistent, had to go to the bar to ask for drinks. Sat with the left over fish for 20min with flies coming in force. The red snapped was ok but very salty. The ceviche was good but for a "traditional" it had as good as no lime taste. read more

Amazing ceviche! & truly amazing service! I went by myself and sat overlooking the big waves and had the friendliest waitress give me the best suggestions for my stay in zicatela. She even brought me a complementary shot of mezcal at the end of my delicious meal. I meant to leave a review earlier and was just reminded of this sweet place after looking over my vacation pics! Wow, this place is fantastic.. Top 4 best grilled fish I have ever had in my life.. The best part, the grill is in an old converted VW Style Van.. One of the many restaurants dotting Zicatella Beach, Cevicheria is directly on the beach and gives you a beautiful clear view of the ocean.. The menu is incredibly small.. We went in the off season so maybe that is why the menu is so concise but, it works.. Their ceviche is amazing and that fish, that fish is worth traveling to Puerto Escondido for.. Staff is awesome, the woman working the grill is a master.. Lovely.. read more

I can't stress this enough, GET THE SHRIMP. My friends and I were here on vacation and luckily ate here our first day. We then went back 3 days in a row for the shrimp. We would of went the 4th day but it didn't open early enough to get before our flight. Everything else was great as well but the shrimp is where its at. read more

Excellent ceviche in a small restaurant in the sand on Zicatela beach. The fish was very fresh and was served with fried tortillas and a small bowl of a creamy aioli made with chiles and a mayonnaise concoction. Unusual, but I liked it. They had other fish and shrimp offerings but I only had ceviche. The service was professional and knowledgeable. There is no sign, except a small board they put out when open. Strange marketing behavior. You can find it by looking directly across the street from the ATM in front of the Arco Iris hotel. It is next to Juqualitas. I spent a week in Puerto and was searching for great, fresh, local seafood and finally (after several disappointments) I found it! The food here was delicious and perfectly done. We had the shrimp appetizer with yummy salsa and the fish of the day. The fish was fresh and tender, the salad lightly dressed with an amazing olive oil. A few years ago the restaurants lining Zicatela were all too similar in style so a guy like me would take a minute to figure out who had a good drink promotion and stay there because the food was all more or less the same. But as these places close, new entrepenuaers seem to be bringing more diversity to the beach. Cevicheria Costeñito is one of those places. I had the ceviche, it was really good. My date had a salad (I think it was shrimp) and it was mediocre creamy concoction. The service was good, but not exceptional. The decor was beautiful. I'll come back here for sure and steer people away from anything except the ceviche. read more

This was probably the best fish I've eaten in my life, melted in my mouth like butter. We had the ceviche with octopus and shrimp which has been the freshest/yummiest ceviche we've eaten in Mexico then the pesca el dia (whole fish grilled), which came with roasted potatoes and a fresh salad! Pretty bad service by the Argentinian waiter. Decoration was great, food was good. Yet, the service was deplorable. First, this waiter refused to take an incomplete order of beverages. Second, beverages were delivered after 15 minutes of demanding them - no water by the beach! He didn't deliver the bottle of water I requested, I remind it to him. He kips serving other table but ours. Water only arrived with the food, some 40 minutes after this. Third and finally, when we were paying the check we noticed some inconsistencies. After 5 minutes of making counts this waiter arrived to ask if we needed help, we told him to hold a bit, he came back 2 minutes after this, I got very angry and asked why he couldn't wait if I had to wait over 40 minutes to get water. Instead of apologizing he took a defensive and mocking attitude. Preposterous. I can see that most of the reviews here were made by Anglo-Saxons, maybe he just treated like this because we were Mexicans, maybe it was because we were all girls. Not correct, dude. read more
