If you buy from Cex only do so in store and then, buyer beware. The 5-year warranty isn't worth the pixels its written in. I made the mistake of ordering online. I was sent a phone which was not fit for purpose. It would not open to 180 degrees. The after-market screen protector was creased so I removed it because it was a Samsung Z Fold 4 and I hoped it was this badly applied after-market (i..e. not the one Samsung fitted in their factory). I hoped removing it would allow the phone to open to 180 degrees as it is supposed to. I emailed Cex who told me to take it into the local shop. The salesperson who served me looked at the phone and confirmed that it did not open fully as it should. He also noted that there was a bulge in the middle of the hinge. I said how disappointed I was that it wasn't as expected from your company who my son has been using for many years. I said I thought it was a grade C, but the salesman replied "it should never have been sold to you in this condition (the hinge bulge as well as not opening flat). I used Cex because they had upgraded their guarantee to five years. The salesman said he'd process the refund because no Cex branch had a similar phone. I left the shop disappointed that my purchase couldn't be repaired and Cex didn't have one find the same price range. An hour or so later I was phoned by the salesman from the Cex store I visited. He told me my refund had been cancelled by his manager because I had removed the screen protector and the fact that it was creased and bubbled didn't matter. I had voided the warranty on a phone a Cex employee said ex should never have sold me! He told me that his manager had noted I had removed the screen protector and had therefore voided my entire 5-year warranty. The warranty states I must not remove the "factory fitted" screen protector. I pointed out the screen protector wasn't the original because whoever applied it had creased it when they had put it on and there were air bubbles under parts of it. That made no difference. I have wasted £465 and have a phone which is frankly not fit for purpose. AVOID. read more

Like certain record shops, CeX seems to smell permanently of boys sweat and smelly trainers. This is probably down to the clientele and the fact a lot of boys in their teens and early twenties seem to shop there. As the window displays show, CeX is a second-hand store that specialises in new and used video games, DVDs and videos. They have TV drama and documentary box-sets, world cinema, music and hundreds of more mainstream releases from Harry Potter to Slumdog Millionaire. They also sell mobile phones, iPods, iPhones, laptops, digital cameras and blackerries. The reason most people go though, is for the games and DVDs. Next time I go I might wear a nose-clip. I'll definitely go back though because I picked up Seasons Two and Three of Six Feet Under for a tenner each. read more

Shops like CEX will always have a special place in my heart. When I was a teenager, I worked in a similar kind of shop that sold video games and music. I worked in the music section, I was much cooler than everyone else. Every time I go into CEX a wave of nostalgia hits me - rather, the smell of gamers hits me (I'm allowed to say this, boys that play video games have a distinct smell about them, I worked with a bunch of them for 4 years) and I am immediately transported to my teenage years, wondering what game console I'm going to buy next along with spending my weekend-girl wages on CD's and vinyl. Staff are to be expected, gamers aren't the most social bunch. You'll get a positive sounding grunt if you are lucky, but to me, that's part of the charm I guess?? You can sell your old games/DVD's/Consoles etc here if you are in need of some quick cash (I have been there, I was a broke ass uni student once you know), and you can buy second hand games at a fairly reasonable price, but I would advise to shop around. read more

CeX is a really great shop where you can buy, sell and exchange DVDs, games, and electronics. The shop itself is fairly standard, well-lit and simple. You can browse a fairly large selection of DVDs, Blu-Rays and Console games. There are also displays of the phones, tablets, cameras and laptops they currently have. The staff are friendly and really knowledgeable about what they do. Recently my Other Half and I went to the shop with a very large pile of games consoles, games and films. The shop bought everything off us, ranging from a few pence per item up to £30 or so. My old netbook was bought for £100! Here I should specify - you can choose store credit, which is more, or cash, which is worth a lot less. (E.g. my laptop was worth £100 in store credit or £70 in 'real' cash) They have so much great stuff that, in my opinion, it's really worth going for the store credit. For all of the things we sold, we exchanged it for a PlayStation 4 and a top-of-the-range Sony tablet. New in a shop, those would have cost upwards of £600, but we simply exchanged old, unwanted stuff for shiny new gadgets! It's a great idea, and it really works. read more

I know CEX because a friend works there. When he told me he worked at CEX he pronounced it "sex".... In my head I was jealous because I always thought it'd be cool to work in a sex shop (you know, in an ironic kind of way). When I found out it was a computer games and hardware exchange store my faith in humanity was restored and my dream still in tact. So, what do you need to know about CEX? Well, other than its funny name, it offers new and used video games, mobile phones, laptops, iPods and various other technological accessories. The prices can sometimes be very competitive, but at others, a little off the mark and too high (in my humble opinion). I am not a massive gamer, but they do have many recognisable titles on offer and the staff are a real pleasure to talk to - and I am not just saying that because I have friend who worked there! In fact, as I am not so into games, the staff were the real bonus for me, because their friendliness and enthusiasm made me feel more welcome and willing to make a purchase, which doesn't always happen in stores with a more snobby and elitist attitude to gaming. A must-visit every time I go into town, CEX is a swap-shop where you can sell, exchange and buy phones, laptops, cameras, games, DVDs, MP3 players and other tech gadgets. The prices range from mega cheap (I paid £12 for Assassin's Creed on the Xbox), to stupidly high (£490 for a Canon digital SLR, which is probably cheaper brand new from Argus). Despite the high prices on some of the stock, the pull is in the exchange, swap your old phone to get store credit and pay the rest to get a new one. I swapped a BT htc phone, an unwanted upgrade that my Dad was too scared to use, and got £80 store credit to spend on a new phone. I only had to pay another £20 to get the one I wanted, and it came boxed with all accessories and manuals. The staff are friendly, know their gadgets and are always happy to help. It gets rammed on weekends and there's always a massive queue of swappers and shoppers making the wait pretty long but it's relatively empty in the week so it's best to go then to bypass the headache. read more

With so many films available in so many places for only a few pounds, it is easy to accumulate a pile of films that you've watched once and have no intention of watching again. That is where CEX comes in handy. Instead of letting the DVDs/CDs/games and other techie things gather dust, you can trade them in for cash or store credit. You will get a higher value in the store credit voucher. Single DVDs won't really get a huge amount of money, anything from 0p-£5, but you are more likely to get a higher amount for games and boxsets. The service was friendly, if a bit slow. I would have preferred it if they had made it clearer during the exchange what each DVD was worth, then again I didn't want them anyway so it probably wouldn't have made a big difference. after myself and my family dealing with cex for over 10 years something has gone horribly wrong in the past few years (pre pandemic), ive been sending stuff in to cex and because id sent in another item which was something id sent them in the past they demanded a 40% discount (they pay me 40% less then the websites listed price) i declined so they cancelled all my orders to be returned, permanently suspended my account all because i said i didnt want to be discounted by 40% (which is incredibly high discount) i was told this was in the terms and conditions so i read the entire section of terms and conditions and made it clear this was not mentioned to which they pointed out a section which wasnt even relevant (actually proved they was in the wrong) laura at the esolve team which claims to be the manager of the department was very unhelpful and moaned it was costing them in shipping which i explained if i was told about this i could of easily paid to have them posted to cex but a permanent ban for refusing a 40% discount is extreme with no prior warnings or discussions, could of been resolved fairly for both sides if a discussion had been started with me about this rather then spitting their dummy out, i feel as if they are trying to take advantage of people now by demanding such high discounts (times can be hard for some), i escalated my issues to the cex support team because of laura at the esolve team having an unncessary mouth via email, they quickly re-activated my account and issued an apology but i do not feel comfortable using cex again after this experience read more

CeX operates as an electronics exchanage, buying and selling almost every electronic item imaginable. You'll find Ipods, PC, PS2, PS3, DS, Wii, and Xbox 360 games, films, dvd box sets, and other such similar products. The prices for some items are very reasonable, whilst others can be a little overpriced, so you may find a bargain here, or may feel ripped off. I like cex - for one thing, the shop title is amusing. It re-sells anything techie, basically - DVDs, games, phones, consoles, though I don't think I've seen straightforward CDs in there. Prices start very cheaply, I've bought quite a few Stargate DVDs there for £2 - but they can go up to £6, even for Stargate. Films start at £3 - £4 or so, but again can go up higher. The bugbear I have with cex is that people coming in to sell or exchange their goods are in the same queue as the people who just want to buy the odd DVD. I'm glad those people are coming in, of course, but it drives me crazy to wait more than ten minutes just to buy some cheapo second hand DVD. Its the only problem, really - the staff are friendly, extremely knowledge in spite of (because of?) their youth. It can get very crowded on a Saturday, and crowded with little kids of ten or twelve, who have no intention of buying but are absolutely entranced by all the techie bits on display. read more

Ive been in this shop a few times and the experience is not pleasant. The staff are always too busy yapping with each other to notice customers. They dont look happy to be there. Then when you finally get served they often have little clue about certain technical items like computer parts. They brought to wrong item to me literally 3 times. All with the face of a smacked a**e. Plus some of the customers there seem so chavvy with the stuff theyre selling. Once a guy was pulling brand new boxes of gear out a bag and piling them up on the counter. Very blatantly dodgy goods wink wink. Its just an unpleasant place to be. Sorry(not really). read more

Cex (stands for Computer Exchange) is a swap shop for all your DVDs, computer games and gadgets. The premise is simple - bring along your stuff and get cash/store credit; bring along your cash/store credit and buy stuff. You can often find good bargains but be careful as prices are not updated that often so you could find items cheaper on offer in HMV, etc. However with DVDs starting at around £1.50 its worth a look - and if you can't be bothered to go to town, see the prices and stock levels on their website. read more

I found - whilst searching for my son's birthday present - that the prices at CeX were fairly higher than most other game shops offering the same items. I tried to talk to a member of staff, but the reply i got was a teenage boy grunting and a point in the right direction. Their selection of games and other items were wide, but the help there i found to be non existent ... there again, i am now classed as a middle aged lady, perhaps younger people are treated better read more

Let me start off by saying thar I used to love this shop. Good prices, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Then I noticed that the xbox games were much more expensive than their ps3 counterparts. Mw2 on xbox is £8 while on ps3 it's £3.50. But that's not all. I am 15 and I am 5,9. Before they sold me 15 rated products as they should. Then one day I am trying to buy family guy DVDs when some idiot behind the counter asks for id. What the hell. I am not old enough to drive so I don't have a drivers license and I can't just bring my passport as that's an important document and I can't just bring that along if all I want to do is buy a DVD! According to them, I look about 13. Do me a favour, boycott this ridiculous shop and go to replay across the road. They even sell retro gaming stuff, something cex does not do. read more
