It's a great exchange shop - you can sell off any of your unwanted electrical items, I find that you don't tend to get very much for things like DVDs but at least you get something back in your pocket if your mum starts threatening to take your collection to the charity shop! I've never bought anything more substantial, like a phone or game console, although they do sell them readily, I can't help agreeing with Craig in that much of it could well be taken-from-somebody's-hand rather than actually second-hand but nevertheless this Bristol branch offers a wide range of most things electrical. I particularly like coming here off a morning and spending a good hour rumbling through the stacks - it's always fun to go for an odd ball, something you've never heard of, sometimes it's brilliant and sometimes it's one to trade back to CeX! read more

This is a strange second hand electrical goods shop; it doesn't feel much like the dusty, manic ones I remember from my youth. It feels shiny and new and you sometimes forget that all the stock was unwanted by someone. I mean I saw an iPad in there today...an iPad!!! Who got bored of it so fast they felt the need to sell it! And why weren't they allowed a refund from Apple, the thing only came out about a week ago!? They have a huge range of electronics in this shop; it's great just to have a browse. They have technical components and computer equipment for the tech guys who might want an upgrade, but they also have a great selection of cameras and laptops. They have a huge amount of computer games and DVDs and you can sell them yours once you've finished with them. I am not sure how good they are with the prices they will give you for them, but at least they are here to give us the option. Some of the stock prices seem a little high, but I am sure some haggling would be allowed. read more

Broadmead's branch of CEX is a fairly recent addition to the shops in the centre, and I'm so glad it's here - now I have somewhere that I can go to pick up cheap and decent dvds. This branch is massive, and has three floors of all sorts of dvds, computer games, and electrical things - and if you haven't heard of CEX, it's an exchange shop so everything you buy is second hand. You can trust that everything will work though as they check over all products before they go on for resale - and because they're second hand they are soo cheap! Amazing for students! Being such a large store, they have a great selection of products - and the whole of the upstairs floor is devoted to dvds. It's also great for xbox and playstation lovers, if you head in a week or so after a new game has come out it will be around half the price - so probably worth the wait, especially if you are trying to be careful with money! One thing I would say is that the queues can get ridiculous - it is the same queue for buyers and people wanting to exchange things - so often you have to wait for ages at busy times, so I would avoid this store on a Saturday - try and head down on a week day if you can! read more

Since being at University and graduating my DVD collection has spirraled out of control... and that, among other things has too do with this particular branch of CeX! With so many films on selection I can spend hours looking around on everything they have. As well as the selection of DVD's many CD's and games can be found. This proves very popular especially in the credit crunch climate in which we now find ourselves (alhough aparentley the worst is behind us... apparentley!). From the front of the store there are also loads of pre-owned mobile phones, games consoles, laptops, and things like projectors. Great if you know what you are looking for and trust that the item is in good condition even though it's pre-owned. It can get very busy in here, not so much crammed in the shop, but at the till point as so many people are selling items back to the store, so I would avoid coming here on a Saturday or a Thursday (quite a busy shopping day in Central Bristol) read more

This is a great little place where you can trade in almost anything for either cash or something else they have in store. If you're looking for a new controller for your console or need a replacement phone because yours managed to fall down the toilet (it happens!) then this is a treasure trove of second hand goodies that will save you a fortune and gives you more confidence than most sellers can on ebay. I believe they offer a month guarantee so if it should break the moment you use it you can bring it back and swap it for something else. And if you're not sure what to do with your old camera and don't want to hand over a percentage of your money to ebay, then this is a place to head as well. It's amazing that no one has commented on this place. CEX is an Aladdins Cave of preowned games, preowned dvd's and preowned electricals ranging from high spec computers to sophisticated imacs, and graphics cards to fancy mobiles. It is by far one of the cheapest places to pick up all the above in Bristol, so long as you don't mind the odd blemish on your dvd case or some cases, for example with graphic cards, you'll simply be given the static proof bag should there be no box. Either ways, this place is packed full of bargains and a fantastic place to trade your games in - they offer a very competitive exchange rate for games and its well worth getting a list of prices off of them and seeing what gamestation have to say about it. I strongly stand by CEX as an excellent high street store to pick up a few dvd's or a cheap xbox game to enjoy your weekend with. Well worth a visit. read more

This CD/DVD and Video Game exchange is such a good idea in theory. Walking in it has the vibe of Empire Records crossed with Cash Converters. It harks back to an age when we weren't all hooked on computers, iPods and mobile phones (though it does sell them). Head upstairs to the CD section and you'll find a complete jumble sale of CDs from the past three decades, including, if you're lucky some deleted numbers. There's a lot of 90s Indie, which is fine by me, and while you will have to rummage and your hands will be black with dust by the time you're done you will have saved a fortune for the CDs are priced at anywhere between 50p and a tenner. What lets this place down though is the complete lack of organisation. The staff, by and large, are a bunch of posey no hoper stoners who have the most unapologetic faces despite regularly being so slow that the queues reach the door or being so useless at categorizing the discs that the massive pile you take up to purchase will be reduced to just the one or two titles they can actually find the discs for. This place is quite weird. It blasts out metal music all day long, has some of the most emo staff I've ever seen and smells a little in certain bits because of all the unwashed gamers that come here. They do everything from iPhones and games consoles to DVDs and hi-fis. In fact, they do anything that is easily nicked from the entertainment-obsessed estates around Bristol, and indeed most of the stuff looks very much like it's been knocked off for drugs money. Nevertheless, that doesn't stop me browsing this store quite often to pick up a bargain game or gadget. The problem is that they tend to know the market value of things, so when my iPhone was stolen a few months ago, I went here thinking I'll get a well cheap replacement, only to find that they were nearly as expensive as the new models and far likelier to break, so I ended up getting a new one from a place that could easily take it to. Yes, there are bargains to be had here, but they're getting harder and harder to find nowadays. read more

Echo the comments below disgusting staff attitude and service.if I could zero stars or a negative I would! Thought I'd sell my partners old phone here after looking at their website and them offering a good price instead of ebay. Their website lists the following grading system Grade A Phone in as new/mint condition with charger, original box and all accessories. Grade B Working phone in good condition with slight cosmetic blemishes. Charger supplied. Missing one or two accessories or original box. Grade C Phone in poor cosmetic condition. Charger supplied but missing accessories and packaging. Non-working Phone intact, not crushed or snapped in half. Non-working examples: dead, cracked, broken/bleeding LCD (screen), not powering up, speaker/mic faults, broken aerial, etc. No accessories required Now the phone I was taking in was in mint condition as my partener is very careful and it had always been in the leather pouch, it came with all accessories & packaging etc etc. When you take the phone in the guy gives it a quick look then gives you an initial grade & price to be confirmed by the testing people.you then leave the phone with them for testing and go back in an hour.The initial grade was an A to a B to be 65 to 80 poundsSo i left it with them. Went back in an hour and now its a grade C and its locked to vodafone and they'll only give me £30 for it?? So I pull out an o2 sim it works perfectly but no its definately locked to vodafone as their testing department are never wrong?? And the girl couldn't even explain why it was now being listed as a grade C.I then declined there offer which she seemed genuinly surprised at.so all in all a bunch of rude idiots trying to rip you off.It might work on some people desperate for money to get their next fix but not on everyone. As mentioned below staff attitude is disgusting whilst having the initial grading done and leaving some details I had to listen to two other members of staff openly slagging off the previous customer all because he had said cheers mate All in all a waste of an hour and a half and to top it off the manual and cd's were missing out of the box but it really wasnt worth going back and dealing with these idiots again.
