Absolutely delicious. I've been across Asia eating hot pot and this ranks up there. In taste and service!

Yes please!!! Peko…read morePeko was a totally random stop for us after a long walk in the gardens. It was also my first real Taiwanese meal and I loved it! It's a small place and was pretty full at lunchtime. We had soup dumplings ($10), Taiwanese sausage fried rice ($18) and volcano pop chicken ($17?). Our food came out quickly and we dug in - wow, wow, wow, wow. If you live in Melbourne, maybe you have lots of options for this kind of food but it surprised me in the best way. The fried rice was not at all greasy and was peppered with green onions and crisp bits of delicious sausage. If you can believe it, it was "light" tasting and enough for 2 to share. The volcano chicken was one of the best things - it was breaded, but again not greasy or heavy. I loved the spice mix too - a creeper heat with hints of five spice. The soup dumplings were really good but ended up being an afterthought behind the rice and chicken. The bathroom doubles as the storage room but it's plenty clean. The staff is friendly and efficient. My husband and I both agree that this was one of our best random meals in a long time!!

Not much has changed over the yrs but I do wonder what everyone is eating!! Everything except the…read morerice is SALTY!!! the accompanying sauce gives it a different dimension but heck there's nothing great! I can get better at a food court! The chicken was very dry and the most salty! the mince I really don't know where to start but I wouldn't order again. or actually I wouldn't come back! Salty and the rice was hard! Yep! Save yourself the trouble.. Just go buy a packet of he Japanese curry and use all the cubes in it to cook whatever... The calamari.. was ok but it's just fried.

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken - Chicken coating and bones

Now, by clicking the fourth star for this review Yelp has kindly given me a gauge on what a 4-star…read morerating really meant, and that is "Yay! I'm a fan". This sentence could not be closer to the absolute truth as I am *definitely* A FAN--without any form of exaggeration. Hot Star Large Fried Chicken is one of those side shops that many people often walk past without even the slight interest. It isn't that flash nor fancy and it surely doesn't give you the opportunity to walk in, sit and view their menu. However, don't let the aesthetic fool you as Hot Star Large Fried Chicken (or HSLFC herein) is probably the best muchies killer in the face of Melbourne. Why? Because Chicken, that's why. HSLFC doesn't offer much in terms of variations and range but what it does offer is both delicious and fantastic. There are, if I recall correctly, only around 4-5 main choices that you can purchase and about 3-4 sides that could accompany those mains. However, with these limitations, one may assume that this is bad but these limitations is the BEST thing that could possibly happen for a store like this, and let me explain why. Having a small pool of choices makes it easier for people who have never tried it. They can literary walk up and make up their minds in half a minute. Imagine having someone walk into a strip shop (no, you dirty mind you, a shop on the strip of road) and be bombarded with ONE HUNDRED different options! That person would be 1) overwhelmed and 2) probably get so overwhelmed by the choices and decide to leave. Who would want that? Bad business. The food itself is actually quite yum! The chicken is very tasty and is definitely one of the comfort foods that I crave every once in awhile. They cook it for a decent amount of time but the outcome of said long cooking is an amazing handful of deep fried chicken, not to mention the other handful of sides which makes it two handfuls, which makes it even better because now you need to decide which hand to eat out from first! Overall, I think HSLFC is a go to shop when you have the muchies--or drunk, hey I don't judge. They serve great quality food for a great price, if you don't mind waiting a few minutes for the chicken to go from raw to de-freakin-licious. HSLFC has earned its ranks with me. I think you should give them a go haha

As a fellow foodie I would not lead you astray!…read more I have been to this restaurant at least 5-6 times varying in parties of 1-4 people. Upon arrival to your table you are given a thermos of hot Jasmine tea. Such a beautiful tea that needs no sugar or additions. Two of my favorite dishes to mix are the salt & pepper soft shelled crab along side the beef pho. The broth from the pho is an excellent complement to the crab. I usually soak the crab in the pho broth and that is my ultimate satisfaction for food delicacy at the moment. I have eaten many dishes on the menu and each one has been delicious. The portion sizes are generous making the already reasonable prices even more appealing. A standard bowl of pho could easily be shared by four people but I myself prefer to take the leftovers home and split it up into several other meals. I do not know if it is standard but the chef has allowed me to purchase pho broth to take-away on a couple of occasions which makes cooking meals or little snacks at home a quick and easy treat. This restaurant does serve wine and beer but you can also BYO. There is usually some sort of pop music that ranges from current to possibly late 90s in the background but as a person who has been to Asia and many Asian establishments I have gotten used to this. An array of dishes to choose from, standard service with a willingness to please and all in all a great price for great quality food. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking delicious Vietnamese food!
