When I was there, they were setting up their "A Johnny Appleseed Christmas" display, which includes gifts from the 1800s and period decorations around the Museum. The kids that were with us even got to help make some of the decorations, which they loved! I have to admit... I had fun making them, too!

There's a lot of it, including handicap spots right up front. The museum is huge, way bigger than I expected, with two floors and different sections that go in order through history, which was really cool. It's also completely free to get in and park, which is a big plus. The kids loved the interactive exhibits, and the staff was really helpful and knew their stuff if you had questions. We grabbed food at the cafeteria and it wasn't bad at all. Definitely recommend, especially if you have kids and need something fun to do.

Went on a Saturday around 12, started to get pretty busy around 12:45-1:30. Which makes the…read morecave/cavers very tight to walk through. While your down there your using a provided map to guide yourself around and match the corresponding areas ( Ex; A to A or 1-1 ) We went after it had just rained the night before, so everything was VERY wet. Wear waterproof/walking shoes if you plan on exploring. Be prepared to get dripped on by very cold water coming off nearby rocks, and the "ceiling". Coming down the initial very steep stairs is a beautiful view of different levels of rocks decending into a tunnel/cave where the rest of the cavers are. Tons of puddles all over the ground from collected rain water and the "droplets". Most the areas are about big enough for one person to walk through the tunnel areas at one time, and if your a larger person i DO NOT recommend going down there. Some areas are extremely tight and really only accessible to someone under 4'5 and around 100 pounds or less. (Im 5'4, 140 and some areas i almost got stuck cause it was too tight going through the rocks. It is neat to see though, i dont think id want to do it again as it is just wet rocks and the furthest tunnel was closed from the previous year that occurred from some heavy rain water. (The water collected, over time causing a collapse). So that was kind of a bummer but i get it for safety reasons. The gem mining was fun, definitely loaded with a lot of "gravel" type rocks so that was new for me, Ive only ever had ones with dirt/sand that yield rocks/gems/shark teeth. We found some really interesting gemstones in each tray. The petting zoo was great. I thought it wad Going to be boring and smelly, and i was happily wrong. The goats were adorable, when we came in a baby jumped through the fence and was following our group. And when we came inside the "pen" to pet them he ran back in it was very cute! The deer were a little skittish but very sweet and gentle. The treasure hunt/maze was VERY fun we enjoyed getting different prizes snd trading them within the group.

The building was once chopped up into several units after the original owners. Everything invites you to touch and feel unlike most Wright museums. The furniture is sparse and reproductions. The guide invites us to sit and feel the experience. We learned lots of insider info from our knowledgeable host. Go and see this living gem.

The Westcott House had fallen into disrepair over the years, and was restored in 2005 by the local non profit Westcott House Foundation. The Foundation now owns the property and preserves it as a museum, which is open to the public for tours. Tour tickets can be purchased online. Our tour guide was fantastic. She had so much knowledge about the house, the architectural style and the Westcott family. The tour was scheduled for 90 minutes, but I think she could have shared info with us all day! The museum gift shop had some beautiful items. Parking is available on the street in front of the museum.

The Heritage Center of Clark County is a local gem. The museum is well curated with many unique…read morethings to see. There's far more to see than what you might expect. When you go, sign in to the guest register and then head over to the greeter's desk. A greeter will take a couple of minutes to give you a little background about the building and how to best navigate the two floors of exhibits. The first floor was the more interesting of the two. There's plenty to look at, and it's presented very well. Be sure to walk all the way back to see the model recreation of the city streets of downtown Springfield during the 50s and 60s. The second floor isn't as full or as interesting but is worth the stairs or elevator ride up. Pro tip: Be sure to look up to the ceiling. There's almost as much to see up there and on the floor. No joke. Admission is a donation of your choice, but there's a suggested amount listed that is more than fair. If you are into history, go. It's one of Ohio's better history museums. A solid 5 stars.

We have gone every year for about 8 years I believe and although the decor doesn't change too much my grandkids are amazed each time. I grew up near this area and am happy to see as much of it preserved as possible. It's essentially free and no charge to take pictures with Santa. We leave a donation but it's optional and a lot of younger parents can appreciate they aren't charged outrageous amounts to see Santa. Also, this Santa is very authentic and believable for the kids. Really nice and very appreciated by my family each year.

I think there is massive room for improvement and making things just look nicer. I think those in charge could learn a lot from how the Great Council State Park was done. Lots of room for more hands and interactive things to keep the kids interesting in learning about our past. This could also spell more revenue from schools for Field Trips.

It is free to enter but be sure to stop at the front desk so that security can get you checked in. For car/vehicle fans, a major draw is the number of vehicles on display, ranging from a Honda Jet to numerous cars and motorcycles to factory equipment and robots. I was with some very excited car fans who were rushing from vehicle to vehicle and nearly missed one of the highlights, which my more leisurely pace brought me to: in the back corner is a factory robot that you can interact with and it will demo its many abilities for you. You can use the screen to ask it to paint, weld, etc. The friendly museum host also offered us souvenir pens on our way out, and there is one vehicle that you are able to sit in for a picture (clearly marked). Videos and signage round out the experience. The bathrooms were extremely clean and well kept, and there is a nice parking lot right outside with some EV chargers available.
