    Country Kennel

    Country Kennel

I have left my two dogs at Country Kennels on Route 61 several times, and the last visit was a ten…read moreday vacation. I am extremely skeptical about kennels having had a horrible experience prior. I asked for a spontaneous walk through their kennel, and they were pleasant and complied without any hesitation. I also asked my two dogs be kept in the same area together since they had been together since young puppies. They explained their procedures in watering, breaks to go bathroom and exercise. Because I walk with a cane, the owners were more than generous in their offer to escort the dogs into my car, and or into the kennel. They did a few extra services that they normally would charge for.Not expected or asked for, but random kindnesses. Those little things make a huge difference in deciding if this will be the place you entrust your beloved pets long term. It is a larger capacity kennel, but it never smelled unsanitary. Their hours of operation are reasonable, and the pick up times are very pet owner friendly. I have been in other kennels where certain days {almost always the day I needed to pick up} they only allowed you to pick up at 5 pm, and was quite adamant that it did not mean 5 minutes after, or 5 minutes before because it was their day off. You had to be there at exactly 5 pm. Not the case with Country Kennel. I am so happy to not have to deal with that situation here. Also, they charge by the 24 hour period of time, unlike other kennels that rope you into paying ridiculous money because they charged in a manner that was bent toward their advantage, i.e. Half a day = a day, evening drop off = a day, the next day= another day. I am also not having to deal with that "other" kennel that did a bait and switch deal when you negotiate for the double sized space and find out they switched your dogs to a tiny space after you left. This kennel's owners are absolutely the nicest family, and does not appear to be interested in gouging the public for excess profit by manipulating the clock and hours of pick up. I am very happy, and glad to give a great recommendation. Kim Opperman Shelby, Ohio

We had our dog at other day cares before without a problem. We found Ashland doggy day care. Not a million dollar building but the caregivers here are worth their weight in gold. So glad we found this business.

We no longer recommend this daycare. After 3 years of our dog attending regularly, we were shocked…read moreto learn he was "permanently dismissed." During all that time, we were only ever informed of one incident -- over a year ago -- which was described as a brief "scuffle" while several dogs went through a gate together. We were told there were no injuries, and after a short break, our dog returned to play with no further issues. There were no other incidents that day or at any other time until we were informed of his dismissal when we picked him up at the end of the day. Since his dismissal, we've made multiple attempts to get details about any other incidents and were denied. We even tried to speak directly with the practice owner and veterinarian, but she never responded. This has been extremely disappointing. As responsible pet parents, we wanted to understand what happened so we could address any behavioral issues -- but we were given no opportunity to do so. After years of loyalty to both the clinic and daycare (with as many as three dogs in their care at a time), the lack of transparency and unwillingness to communicate has left us questioning everything. They denied us any chance to correct behavior and keep our relationship as customers, and the practice owner's silence speaks volumes about how little they value long-term clients.
