Patience with anxious dogs and following directions given by owners. My American Eskimo Australian Shepherd mix is a rescue with acute anxiety issues. I explained that she needed constant reassurance and responded well to talking and petting, but she didn't respond well to be rushed or ganged up on like some salons do. She said they would do their best and kinda quit listening while worked with something on the desk. In about 2 hours received a text saying my dog done and we could pick her up, As soon as we were at the desk paying the girl stated our dog who I had told them was anxious tried to bite the groomer. I guess despite telling them that she had acute anxiety and needed lots of reassurance they overlooked that! My dog's cut was ok at first but, upon closer looks her cut was irregular. The left was cut and it was nice, but the right side was only washed and brushed. It wasn't trimmed like the other side. The girl suggested that the next time she has to get her hair trimmed, give her CPDs! My dog is NOT a biter and is not aggressive if given verbal reassurance and talked to by a confident person. So if you have a dog that has anxiety issues or fear, I unfortunately can't recommend The Barker Shop! read more

Took my Bernese Mountain dog here for the first time. The staff were really friendly and seemed to work well with my dog. I set up an appointment online, but received a phone call because the appointment slot I made was not for a large dog. They got her in even sooner for a bath and brush only. We have never trimmed our Bernese Mountain dog ever because we enjoy her long hair and it's winter. We dropped her off and went shopping. Surprisingly they called early and said she was ready to pick up. She is always so excited when we pick her up so we didn't notice anything, but when we got home we noticed she had been fully trimmed. We were very disappointed that our long haired girl received a full trim for the very first time. Even her five inch long belly hair was shaved to a stubble and all of her long hair on her feet was gone. So I called to let the owner/manager know. She was apologetic and offered some money back but we didn't pay for a full haircut so I just wanted to let her know that we didn't receive what we had initially requested. The trim looked good, it's just not what we wanted. We will take our furry baby back there, but will make sure next time it's clearly understood what is wanted. read more

This past weekend I took my 3 year old Standard Poodle to get a full groom. While speaking with someone on the telephone to make an appointment, they confirmed that pets who have not been there before are eligible to receive a first time coupon of 50 percent off. The woman I spoke with did confirm it needed to be printed from the website before paying. Conveniently, when I got on the website in search of this coupon, the coupon link would not work. When we picked the dog up they said they would not honor the coupon and charged me full price.  On top of being charged full price, I never received a call after my dog was finished. He ended up being there for nearly four hours. When he got picked up, he did not look anything like I had requested. I showed the groomer (will leave her name out) a photo of Hank, twice, and he did not turn out as expected. (Photos attached) Since leaving the groomer, people have told me my dog looks like Bob Ross, ET, and a bobble head.  In addition to the above, in between the pads of his feet appear to have been trimmed with clippers that had little or no safety on it. We were playing in the backyard after his haircut and two of his pads would not stop bleeding. I've heard mixed reviews on the Barker Shop and decided to give them a chance, but unfortunately I will not be returning.  The staff at the Barker Shop are extremely friendly but their policies and lack of attention to detail have caused me to search for another groomer. read more

Sooo... we have a new puppy. "Oliver". Got him about 8 weeks ago and he's a charmer, but ALL puppy. He's a Sheepadoodle which is part Old English Sheep dog and part standard poodle. He will need groomed so started early looking for the right place for us. Our former groomer for our toy poodles just lives a little to far. Made a puppy appt a few weeks ago which was a free introduction trim, wash, brush out and nails. Just enough to get the pup used to it. Well he hair has been growing fast and we found another groomer just down the road a few miles ( we live in the country, so closer than driving to town). We tried her since was close and some good reviews on FB. Well let's say this didn't turn out well. She butchered him. He looked terrible. Uneven all over. No bath. It was like she just got so far in each ears and stopped. We called the Barker shop the next day to see if we could get in to fix him and they had an appt. What a blessing. Laura fixed him. She was awesome. Everyone there asked what happened to our dog it was so obviously he had a bad experience with a groomer that had NO idea what she was doing. But Laura took charge and made his look great. We are so so please with the service we received so far at the Barker Shop I think they earned a customer for life. read more

As a pet owner when you drop your dog off at the groomers you expect for them to be cared for. My last visit i picked my dog up brought her home to find her paw/nail bleeding. Got blood all over my back seat and floors to my house. They never told me about any incident until i called to see how i could stop her nail bleeding. Today i dropped her off at 1145am for 12pm appointment. Received a call at 250pm that i needed to come pick her up. She hadn't been groomed and was bleeding from the mouth because there was issue with her and the cage. After her being there for 3 hours they hadn't given her a bath. That was the only thing she was there for. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. read more

I made an appointment for my dogs on a Tuesday. that day the power went out, they never called me to inform me of this before my appointment so I drove there none the wiser. I knocked on the locked door upon arrival while a worker stared at me and pretended not to see me. she finally rolled her eyes and came to the door and said she would call me to reschedule. she never called. I called 6 times the next day and they never answered the phone. it took my husband leaving a rude message to get them to call us back. then when I took my dogs in for the new appointment time, they o my groomed one dog and said they couldn't get my other dog out of the cage....seems very suspicious when they are dog professionals. I'm appalled by their customer service. read more

Maisy and Oliver LOVE Spa days at the Barker Shop!!! We drop the dogs off and my husband and I go for a nice dinner, then about 2 hrs later we get a call on our cell that they are all done! We pick ups two clean, happy pups! They get a full service of baths (one gets a low shed treatment) ears cleaned, teeth brushed and nails trimmed! All for a very affordable price! The dogs get treated very well, and so do we! We love the convenience, its soo much easier than trying to do it in the bathtub at home! Tammy does such a great job!! We get a grade card each visit so we know if there were any problems, or things we need to pay attention to..or see a vet for, that is awesome!! Check them out, they have a retail shop and offer training. The staff is wonderful, we definitely reccomend!! read more

We moved a year and a half ago out of Ashland, but still drive 45 minutes to bring our dog to the Barker Shop! Love them!
