The problem with the rooms is that you don't have a window which gives you a view to the nature but to the hotel hallway. Wait, that's not the bothering part, because of the weather you would choose the aircondition before opening the window. The bothering part is, that if you leave the curtains open everyone can take a look into you room and even more annoying is the fact if the guys come in late in the night there is a 50:50 chance they wake you up if they walk along the room. But overall the rooms are good and you can stay there for 1 or 2 nights The people at the reception speak english which is a plus and are helpful when you need something. The restaurant offers breakfast and everything else. Okay it's not a 5 star but who needs that anyway, the waiters are friendly and fast and the food is okay.

We were on honeymoon with our two pups and had yet to find a place in Palenque that would take us with our pups. We booked the room via Priceline or some other third party site without really knowing what to expect. Upon arrival we were blown away with the serenity of the lobby. The decorum was natural and modern, yet still felt as though we were in the jungle. Greeted by helpful staff, registration was simple and expedited quickly. Within 15 mins we were in our room, our bags brought to us immediately, and enjoyed a hot shower in the simple yet elegant shower. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was unique and spacious. Our room overlooked a small creek, beyond that we could hear some cows in the distance. Our room (I'm not sure if all rooms include this) had a deep tub on the deck, we enjoyed a lovely bath with the sounds of nature...this was perfection. The next day, we enjoyed breakfast at sunrise out on the deck, the food was healthy, an assortment of fruits, juices, coffee, and light pastries. We spent two nights at Piedra de Agua and wished we had had more time to enjoy the amenities. We hope to visit again soon.

I was charged $189 a night but this is really a $30 a night hotel. Advertised as a boutique hotel the red flags began to appear before I entered my room. my "suite" has a private terrace with a hammock sofa and chair. When I sat down on the sofa and the chair both were wet and a long line of insects were transiting over the sofa. When I entered my room several insects were flying inside and stationed on the walls. The towels and bed comforter were full of stains. there was no television or telephone in the room .the hot water in the shower comes and goes without warning. A fabric ,that was once white, is now yellow from mildew, shape to look like the ceiling of the tent overlooks the bed. only a continental breakfast is provided and its brought from an outside vendor. As far as the quality of the food think of a food court at Walmart. there are no restaurant facilities on site. there are no proper curtains on the single window in the room. The material, masquerading as a curtain, is translucent so not only does one not have privacy but the sunlight makes it impossible to sleep after sunrise. This last point may not be an issue as I was awakened at approximately 5 AM by the sounds of a rooster followed by the sounds of goats, barking dogs and cars traveling on the highway. The lamps adjacent to the bed could only be turned on by plugging the electrical cord into the wall. they had no switch.the walls of the shower had three long vertical lines of brown mildew. when I went to sleep the sheets in the pillows were moist from the humidity. In a nutshell steer clear of this place. It's absolute thievery.

Didn't eat at the restaurant so can't comment on that. The hotel is close to the Palenque pyramids, and too far to walk to anything. So if you'd like to go into town you would need a taxi. The hotel caters to a lot of tour bus groups, so I would get to breakfast early to avoid the lines (starts at 7 am). AC worked fantastic! You get 2 bottles of water a day. Has a lovely swimming pool which was nice. Would've been better if the bar they had set up near pool had been manned, but perhaps it's only in use during certain times. The grounds are nice as well.

Hay una hermosa piscina y un restaurante en la propiedad, y este hotel es muy accesible con una rampa para llegar al vestíbulo, terreno plano (pero con colinas) para llegar a las habitaciones y comida que puede pedir a su habitación o a la piscina. Wow I wish I could live here. This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at. This hotel is surrounded by beautiful nature with all kinds of plants and animals around, it is the CLEANEST hotel I've ever stayed at, the pillows are so soft and it is so spacious inside the rooms. There is a beautiful pool and restaurant on the property, and this hotel is very accessible with a ramp to get to the lobby, flat ground (but hills) to get to the rooms, and food you can order to your room or the pool. Even the showers in the rooms are accessible (see photos). I 100% recommend staying here. I wish I could live here! I am excited to come back again in the future!

It's really about the birds…read more I keep returning to the Hotel Chan-Kah because in the late afternoon, before the sun is ready to set, the birds of Palenque descend upon the trees in the zócalo across the street. When I sit in the open-air second floor restaurant/bar I look out and marvel at the thousands of birds that gather loudly here everyday. A few decades ago, the birds were the loudest thing in this once sleepy town where businesses along the main street closed during the hot afternoon hours. Now, thanks to the increasing popularity of the nearby ruins, Palenque is quite the bustling little metropolis -- with even a Subway and Burger King -- and the birds are no longer the center of attention (even though they don't know it). The old Hotel Chan-Kah is a funky looking little building that operated in the same quiet way for decades. No more. On this visit, I was surprised to meet a young woman from the southern coast of France waiting tables and drumming up business for the two musicians who play most nights in the restaurant. Leslie is an enthusiastic dynamo working her way through Mexico down to Argentina as she seeks to reinvent her life. Her joie de vivre is contagious and the Chan-Kah rocked all the nights I was there. With her friend, a chef/DJ, who prepared some great seafood meals and played music that often made me feel like I was in Los Angeles listening to a night of Garth Trinidad on KCRW, this new Chan-Kah and this new Palenque was like a dream. Not everything about the old Chan-Kah has vanished. My room had a sink with two missing faucet handles. It put a smile on my face. As I sat on the balcony during my last night thinking about the evolution of this hotel and the town, I know that as long as the zócalo remains, I can return to hear the magical birds of Palenque. That will never change.
