Dr. Austin should be called Dr. Awesome! My first time ever visiting a chiropractor and he was just fantastic. I play a lot of softball and have been feeling lots of pain from my muscles in the lower back and legs. I called to see if I had to make an appointment and left a voicemail and he actually called me back himself the same day. I came in right before he closes up shop and he walked me through everything. 10 minutes later my body definitely feels a lot better. Such an amazing experience. Dr. Austin exudes optimism and hope every day. He consistently answers his phone with, "It's a great day, how can I help you." and he sounds completely sincere everytime, regardless the outdoor weather :-) Same with my office visits, he is a true healer, in that he maintains a positive upbeat vibe consistently, he asks how I'm doing and really listens, shows empathy, and than we get down to the adjustment. His adjustments are consistently superb, I generally ice my back for 10 minutes after, and enjoy getting a dose of Chrisitian Rock music. There have been times when my back was sore the next day, than dramatically improved pain free for weeks to even a month and a half. I notice that I can open up the joints myself, after an adjustment for a period of time, before sitting at a desk types of posture crunches down on the disk and the lifelong nerve signal of pain in the Thoracic region returns, probably related to childhood asthma, and several injuries in adolescence and teen years. And once breaking my left collar bone riding my bicycle to a yoga class age 30! The other thing, is that I was raised by Scientific parents, atheists, and came to Christianity later in life, and my faith waivers, and I question the whole story, the analytical mind etc. Aaron, has prayed for me with my approval, as I have gone through harder times, especially this past year and I really appreciate his praying for me, and the Chrisitan music that I sometimes drive around listening to. I always feel like I get an infusion of renewal in my spirit as much as my body, after seeing Aaron Austin. I often leave thinking, I want to read a little more from my bible, and I should start going to church services at the Calvary chapel again like I did for a while, and responded to an alter call. I went once this winter in February, even though I felt terribly sick from a bug that went around and many suffered. I'd already been sick for 6 weeks (figured I probably wasn't that contagious) I really enjoyed the band performing and the sing a long aspect, the sermon was humorous too. So Yes Yes to the sweet, caring, gentle, skillful and precise chiropractor Aaron Austin, and his walk in any time policy is awesome, and none of his magazines are very political, mostly travel, Santa Barbara magazine etc. His upbeat and genuinely caring energy is a real boost physically and spiritually. I went three times total to this doctor, and I have made up my mind not to go back simply because I feel I was wasting my money. The adjustments were not very deep and my back always felt worse the next day, though it got gradually better, but then very soon felt like it needed more work. I have experienced better jobs where I can go months and months between adjustments, and when they're being done, they feel more effective and comprehensive like I'm getting my money's worth and the doctor really "gets" and reads my body. (Dr. Glenn at Cash Chiropractic in Ventura is $10 cheaper and 10 times better). Plus, just makes me feel weird sitting in the waiting room when every song that comes on has Jesus in it, all magazines are written by the religious right, and everything on the walls is from the Bible. Simple adjustments, some cracking and activator work as needed. $40 cash (as of 2011) and 15 minutes later I'm all fixed and out the door. To the other reviewer's comments, yes I've heard religious music in the background but that doesn't bother me at all as long as he keeps doing great work, besides there's lots of travel and other genre magazines in the waiting room to keep me ocupied. I brought my daughter in to Channel Islands Chiropractic when she hurt her neck while practicing for a dance performance. I usually go to an Osteopath but I haven't found one in town, so after a friend told me how great Dr. Austin is with kids, I called and he was able to see her right away. Definitely as good as it gets! I have been to chiropractors my whole life (over the last 22 years) and have had every kind of adjustment and chiropractor style out there. I really appreciate Dr. Austin's laid-back, no pressure approach. No pressure to sign on for a 3 time a week program or anything...just come in when you need it. His adjustments are thorough, whole body gets worked on and he's very affordable and available - I've rarely, if ever, needed an appointment! You won't be disappointed. The music is uplifting and fun and don't know what the reviewer named Alexandra was talking about, unless you consider Backpacker Magazine, Sunset Magazine, or Running Magazines of a right wing bent. This lady sounds like she has an ax to grind and is focusing on what she hates. It has been eight years since i stepped foot into Dr. Aaron Austin's office and I am still upset about my experience. I came to Dr. Austin through referral when my chronic pain was so bad I could barely turn my head. He referred me to a lawyer he knew to help with my car accident settlement. He had me come in once a week for maybe 4 months (probably 20 visits at the most) and when the settlement finally came he sent the lawyer a bill for $3000, about a third of what I got out of the settlement. Did he help me? absolutely not. Did he lie to me? absolutely yes. He would tell me every time it would be just "6 to 8 weeks" before my condition improved. This was even after seeing him for two months with no signs of any real improvement. I wish he would have told me "look eric, its been two months things aren't improving maybe you should try something else". I wish he ran the bill by me before sending it to the attorney he had a secret inside connection with. I wish he wasn't a Christian because he makes other Christians look bad. Honestly thinking about his fake smile and pamphlets full of BS in his office make me feel sick to my stomach even after 8 years. I am just glad I found yelp to write this review and tell people if you want someone who will whack and crack you in 15 minutes, charge you $40 bucks and keep you spending money on his BS forever, give him a call. If you want to be healed, find someone who actually cares, not just a guy with a fake smile on his face who charges $200 an hour for quackery. If you are looking for a chiropractor, find one on yelp who doesn't have even one terrible review, let alone a few. read more
