Basically, a place to eat ice cream with benches and six picnic tables. What stands out though is a very small stage where musicians play in summer and a historic arch from an 1859 building that burned down in 1921. The moss-covered brick wall from an old building adds a touch of history to the park dedicated to a former chief of police. The scene in which John Travolta sees a bright light in the sky (Phenomenon, 1996) was filmed right across from the park. I mention it here because Spot Right Across From Herschel Young Park doesn't have its own Yelp page. Local ghost tours stop here because the area is reportedly haunted by "Rattlesnake Dick", a Gold Rush stagecoach robber who was killed in the city in 1859. So if you see Dick at the park late at night, call Ghostbusters or the police.

Curious, we sauntered over, and stumbled on a beautiful little park. Auburn Bicentennial Park is a small gem of a park just off Lincoln Way and Court Street. A paved trail winds its way across a bridge, under a freeway overpass, and part way up a hill. The park was quiet, deserted and bursting with color from the autumn trees. A quaint running creek keeps you company on your walk. Although small, the park has a small grassy area and a couple of picnic tables. Looks like a lovely getaway for a warm spring or fall day.

The park has a small parking lot off Taylor Road making it a nice stop during mandarin season or year round. The park has a tiny historical museum about Griffith Griffith who operated the quarry for many years. It produced a very high quality granite used in many California buildings. Outside the museum, the park opens up to a nice nature trail surrounding the old quarry. It is now a rather large pit slowly being reclaimed by nature. The hike is easy with only a few climbs to the top of the pit. Grab a map from the museum or take a picture for your phone to help describe the stops. The museum and park are free, so enjoy and maintain this resource. Facilities are limited, so bring water and seek out the portable toilets. Griffith Quarry Park has history and nature which is great for families or anyone interested in the area. Don't expect strenuous activity or historic battles, just a nice visit.

I saw soccer fields, an area covered with eight picnic benches, an enclosed area with a pond, the maintenance people on a riding vehicle trimming the grass, more benches! Many people bring their doggies here. They bring the toys for the dogs! One, his name is Levi. He was interested in being friends with the other doggies! The enclosure with the pond. Someone says there are tadpoles and there are frogs in the pond! Looking forward to Mental Health Walk here at this park this coming Sunday! From my separate City of Auburn review:…read more Auburn is an attractive city, especially Old Town Auburn, which attracts passersby on the highway between Reno and Sacramento with the quaint architecture on a hill flanked by a giant sculpture. Its small-town charm is likely why movies like Rocky and Bullwinkle, Breakdown, Wisdom, and xXx had scenes shot here, but the town relates most to the 1996 John Travolta movie Phinome Phenomin Phenomm Look Who's Talking. The guy who discovered gold here in 1849 was memorialized by Ken Fox with a 45-ton concrete (rebar and wire mesh) statue at the entrance of Old Town. Ken Fox was a dentist able to do this in between teeth cleanings and forcing customers to look at super close-up pictures of their teeth in order to sell "special deep teeth cleaning" by the quadrant. This dentist has more "Great Statues" in the area which you'd likely find ful-"filling". Get it? Anyway, it's right off the highway, so stop there and check out Old Town. Walk friendly but not sure if ADA friendly. Dog friendly, at least at the brewery. :) Service - Good, everyone we met was friendly. Price - Depends on where you shop, eat, and drink. Owner Comment - What a great fun town, looking forward to coming back soon when I have more time.

Depending what side one enters, one side is behind Auburn City Hall. One side is across from the high school, one student says grades nine to twelve. That side shows a map of some of the parks in Auburn! This is a nature trail. I have seen real lizards, butterflies, birds including our state bird the Valley Quail! There are exhibit signs that explains the different plants in this park. There are benches! Free admission!

Named for a former school principal! Those days, one had show respect to the teacher! When the teacher called on a student, the student had to stand at one side of the desk, answer the question in complete sentence! Bow or curtsy and answer the question in complete teacher! Churning butter, you students now days should appreciate parent is able buy butter from grocery store or those days called the Trading Post! Those days, the students, even the Adults, had to churn the butter, it could take many hours! This school house will be having an anniversary of one hundred ten years August 9, 2025! It first had school classes in year 1915, hence upcoming one hundred ten year of celebration. Think last year for classes was in year 1964!

I went back and forth on whether to write this, and frankly part of me feels bad doing so, but…read moreultimately, we don't feel good about the $100k+ we spent on our pool--and that's not something that should be ignored. 1. Sloppy Workmanship Concrete & deck - The joints are visibly misaligned and the pool deck slopes in places. When I asked for this to be fixed or compensated, they offered a token $400 credit against what I estimate to be a $2,000 mistake--after we had already spent nearly $30k in additional concrete work. Their response? "Our margins are already so low." That's not my problem. It felt dismissive and manipulative. Fence - To meet code, we had to reverse the swing of our fence door. The contractor they sent left a mess--cutting the door unevenly and leaving a large gap. The fact that I even have to spend my time following up on this speaks volumes about their quality control (or lack thereof). Heater install - They installed the pool heater with no condensate line, so water spilled directly onto the concrete deck and left stains (photo attached). I had to chase them down just to get that fixed. Their "fix" was running giant exposed PVC lines across the deck. And now the unit is leaking again. Pool finish - The plaster work is uneven, with rough, jagged steps and visible spots of chipped gunite. You can feel it every time you get in the pool. 2. Disorganized and Disruptive Crews Scheduling was a total mess. Crews either didn't show up on scheduled days or showed up unannounced. One morning we woke up to find the owner tearing out our landscaping to lay skid boards for the bobcat. This was never even discussed. During excavation, the bobcat tore through our irrigation system, flooding our front yard. Despite multiple follow-ups, the issue was never fully fixed--and still leaks to this day. We often felt like pushing harder for resolution would jeopardize our relationship or our warranty. That's not how a customer should feel. We have email after email where we're left chasing basic updates: "What time tomorrow?" "Actually, he can't make it; we'll reach out in a day or two." 3. Condescending Customer Service Any time we raised concerns, we were met with either silence or thinly veiled condescension. The concrete credit negotiation was especially frustrating--using their internal cost pressures as a reason not to fairly address our complaint. When we brought up the heater runoff issue, the response was to "come take a look sometime"... and then nothing. Radio silence. Bottom Line We spent over six figures and ended up with: * uneven concrete * stained decking * a leaking heater * rough, unfinished plaster * a broken irrigation system * and a pile of ignored emails If you care at all about quality, communication, or customer service--do yourself a favor and go with someone else.

Yelp wasn't around when my pool was built by Courage Pools 20 years ago. They build durable…read morequality pools. My original main pump is still running. The spa heater still works. The only items that broke are 3 of my 4 pumps but they lasted more than average. Replaced jet pump in 2013, waterfall pump in 2015, salt chlorinator in 2016 and pool sweep booster in 2019. The control panel still works but I plan to upgrade to a newer model with better remote control. I think the dual skimmer design may have helped with the longetivity of my pump besides making sure they are shaded during the triple digit summer heat. Don't pay attention to the one-star reviews that dragged down the overall rating. Read them carefully and they are all petty complaints. Courage Pools is a premium and the best in the county. If you want to pay more for lesser quality go with the other companies especially the acronym PP.
