The upper floor the building was used for many social events such as ( Cultural Center / Meeting Hall / Live Theater / Plays / Roller Rink / Lyric Movie House / Boxing Matches / but never for an opera. The ground floor was at one time occupied by Mc Rae real estate/insurance office / "Piggley Wiggley Grocery Store / Roseville first new paper/ and Post Office. There are many great outdoor sites nearby (including my own lovely 3 acres in Applegate) for the ceremony, but you need a nice air conditioned indoor site for your reception, especially in the summertime when Sacramento hits 100 degrees F. Applegate Civic Center Club is at 2100 ft. elevation, which places it "Above The Fog" (wintertime) and "Below The Snow". Many times over the years, we've had parties at this facility....most of them for our young daughter in the form of birthday parties. One time, it was around March 5th (daughter's b-day), and it was 42 degrees and foggy in the Flatlands, but at the Civic Center it was a nice balmy 60+ degrees and sunny! Similarly in the summer, we've had events here when Sac was 104 degrees F, while it was a comfortable 96 degrees in Applegate. The air conditioners at Applegate Civic Center were recently installed, making the building much more comfortable than the old Swamp Cooler. They recently remodeled kitchen and the floors, and new windows and acoustical treatment was recently applied to the ceilings to improve the sound. Overall, an excellent budget wedding venue. For brides that want to save on the wedding reception facility, Applegate Civic Center is only available on Saturdays (8 am to 11 pm) and Sundays (8 am to 11 pm). Having rented this facility in the past I would have given it 3 stars but having completed a recent walk-thru, I'm really impressed and the price is right: only $200 per day, $125 security deposit. Because of the price and the newly improved quality of this wedding facility, I'm giving them 4 stars. One of my neighbors recently used the same venue for a family party, and they were completely satisfied with the results.

I looked throughout the Auburn area for a location for a surprise birthday party and found this charmingly renovated schoolhouse to be the ultimate surprise setting for around 100 guests. Tables and chairs were provided (we did set up and take down), along with access to kitchen facilities for the entire day of the event, which made decorating, storing and cooking a breeze. Plenty of parking, too. I paid a refundable cleaning deposit and $200 for access for a full day Can't beat that price for what was included. I believe in keeping local community history alive so will rent this lovely facility again.

Disappointingly, ALL my photos AND reviews for James Marshall's Monument and Coloma State Park's 1800's Gold Rush Community Event MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED AFTER 2019! UNHAPPY! Since and AFTER 2019 to present date--July 18, 2026, I have returned exploring James Marshall's Monument--countless times--reminiscing my US Army friend's Military funeral presided at James Marshall's Monument, used the clean restrooms countless times traversing from Placerville to Beal's AFB /Marysville CA via Highway 49, visited James Marshall's humble abode, checked both St. John's Catholic Church and Emmanuel Church construction completion updates, skulked Sutter's Mill, gold panning the American River, hiked along the American River, sent snail mail from the Coloma Post Office, ate at my friend, Noah's Argonaut Cafe, and hiked the trails, too! BTW: Coloma CA is ONLY seven miles from my humble abode, i.e., this is THE CLOSEST State Park from my house. Finally, I just wish, Coloma State Park had a cool, State Park Campground because I would use my 100% Service-Connected Veteran's Distinguished Park Pass more often which equates as FREE CAMPING and NO FEE State Park Entrance! Besides, exploring Coloma State Park, I guess driving to Folsom Lake's Rattlesnake Bar Campground via Cool CA would be the closest State Park Campground from my humble abode which I have camped a few times in the past. Aside, the town of Coloma CA, Coloma State Park, James Marshall's Monument, dipping my toes in the American River, and all the buildings truly emulate the Wild, Wild 1848's Gold Rush Hey Day which is quite the juxtaposition from modern-day City Of Placerville CA located just eight miles down the road from Coloma CA due South via Highway 49.

Most folks do not know that right along Highway 49 in Auburn, CA, is a significant piece of…read morehistory. Wedged between a car dealership and mechanic shop is the Chinese Cemetery. It is a 2.5 acre plot of land. It is no longer an operating cemetery. There is a locked gate and a fence around the perimeter keeping folks out. The gravestones and remains have been long removed. All that is left is a wood sign and brick enclosed chimney type structure. There are no information boards. Possibly there once were, not know though. After searching the internet, I found out that the burial site dates back to the 1840s. Auburn was once home to thousands of Chinese in the 1800s. They came like everyone else for job opportunities and to try their hand in the gold mines. During that time in history, it was not common practice or possibly not allowed for the Chinese to be buried in the Caucasian cemetery. So the Chinese chose this location. It was a mile outside of Auburn proper and on top of a hill. The Joss House, a cultural center located in Old Town Auburn, currently manages the cemetery.

Was a firehouse. Built year 1888. Became registered historic landmark year 2011. Free to look inside. One can see what equipment used in those days to fight fires. Yes there were hoses, they looked different those days. Those days most the firefighters were volunteers. They would pass buckets of water to help to put out the fires. Lots big rocks, sometimes take to paint rocks back at the house where staying.
