In my opinion, Chaparro is the most authentic taco joint in Berlin. What makes it stick out above the rest is how simple but well everything is executed: a tortilla that doesn't fall apart and has a strong corn flavor; a mound of fatty, delicious pork that lingers in your mouth, adorned with only cilantro, onion and -- surprisingly good -- spring onion. An order of tacos comes with three house-made sauces, each delicious if you want an extra punch, and lime wedges. The price is right, the tacos come out quick, and there's even an excellent margarita special during the week. This is the only Mexican restaurant in Berlin so far seen where I've seen tortas on the menu, and I definitely plan on coming back to see how good they are the next time I'm in the area. read more

But, just because it can be found here, does not necessarily make it good or even noteworthy. Enter Chaparro Mexican Restaurant! This place was so astonishing; it wooed our spirits back to Mexico, to taste the earth, the air and the spirit of the land. I cannot find enough words in my language to describe the allure and vibrance that this restaurant brings to Berlin, yet so far from Mexico. Each offering we tasted represented Mexico in such form that we all were transported in time to the Yucatan, Sonoran or to the Baja Peninsula. The meats were savoury, yet moist, tender and delicious. The guacamole was authentico and the salsas spot on. The margaritas were some of the best I have tasted (and I have spent time in Mexico) and were so good that I asked for one to go. Friendly and genuine staff members, seeking to take their place in the world of international foods in Berlin. Please make this place one of your stopping off points. My husband and I came here as I was craving some Mexican food. We each had burritos, which had excellent and authentic flavor and were definitely filling. The price can be a little high, especially if you want to add on some extras like, jalapeño, guac, pico de gallo...these are each extra and add up quite quickly. The menu can also be a little funny to read and the service is mediocre. I'll be back for €1 tacos on Wednesdays though. read more

Best taco I have had in Berlin. It is not exactly what you would find in Mexico, but hey it is super delicious and comes with homemade corn tortilla. On Wednesday, there is a 1 euro taco special. I got 2 tacos with beans and rice, and my whole meal was 4 euros. I was totally stuffed. Their burritos are huge (for about 6-10euros). Definitely stop by. Wow, that was the blandest carnitas burrito I have ever had. It looked alright, more similar to the fat burritos from San Diego than the long thin ones from the Bay Area. But after the first bite, I was filled with disappointment. Warm flavorless mush filled my mouth. The texture of the meat was carnitas-like, but zero/zip/zilch flavor. Peas?!? Who puts peas in a burrito?!? Maybe I set my hopes to high for a burrito in Berlin, the land where onion is considered spicy. As a Mexican, I can say the food was good. No denying that. Also as a Mexican, the portions made me feel a bit unwelcomed. 3 tiny tacos for 7.50. No double tortilla and just a tiny bit of meat. Single flour tortilla folded in half and cut in 2 to make the 5 Euro quesadilla. Usually a flour tortilla quesadilla (actually call a sincronizada) is made with two large flour tortillas and cut into 4 or 6 pieces. Margaritas filled way below what is usually expected, etc. I think the owner would go a long way by being a bit more fair, if not generous with the portions. If this changes, I would give it another try. PS The owner rolled his eyes at me when I asked about a mezcal, but decided to go for a margarita. I don't know what anyone else is talking about. Sure, the vibe of the menu is a little Chipotle, but this is by far the best burrito I've had in Germany. The salsas were very nice,all three of them. I lived in Berlin 15 years ago and this kind of thing was but a dream. I'm back and very pleased to have this place right near me. Santa Maria is fine, but this is way more legit. read more

I had to apologize for suggesting to eat there. . . The tortilla chips were ok, only problem with the rest of the food was that it had the same amount of flavor. My wife complained that even her farts were too bland after eating the food. I got home and bit my chihuahua to have a more authentic taste of Mexico. read more

I stopped in to Chaparro this afternoon for some vegan friendly Mexican food and left with a new favorite Berlin restaurant. Seriously, the vegan burrito with chorrizo was absolutely amazing. I can't remember the name of the sauce in the burrito, but it was some glorious combination of coconut milk and mexican spices. The closest thing to authentic mexican food in berlin and doing a good job at it as well! Tacos are served authenticos on house made corn tortillas with chopped white onion, cilantro, and a lime wedge on the side ( which i think is my only criticism MORE LIME one lime slice for three tacos is inhumane ) I got barbacoa tacos and they were delicious. The meat was well seasoned although not as spicy as I'm used to, the meat also seemed high quality and not a lot of super fatty pieces which was great. Pretty steep for Berlin 8€ for the three tacos. But when they are the only ones doing anything close to authentic food here I can't complain too much. I will be back to try some of their other options. The only other thing I was hoping for were some hot sauces and salsas out for you to dress your tacos, this is pretty common in authentic mexican food stands in North America. Feel like spending way more money than you should on a delicious meal? Come here! The food was tasty, but the menu reads like an auto dealership's here's the base price for your tortilla. Oh, you wanted something in that? Here's the next price up. Oh? You want guacamole? Better be willing to pay EUR1/per dollop. Yes, it tastes authentic, but we left hungry after dropping EUR18 on six tiny tacos and two beers. The upshot is that I used to think Santa Maria was pricey, but by comparison, you get way more food, friendlier service, and a much tastier homemade beverage. One of the best Mexican places in Berlin! More authentic than any other place I've been to thus far. Carnitas burrito was delicious. Meat was super moist and tender. Good serving size too. Best part were the salsas--which were spicy and tangy. Cool atmosphere, and the service was quick and friendly. I'm definitely coming back. read more

Very good, very authentic tacos and other Mexican fast food dishes. If I had any qualms it would be that the menu's a bit small and only really includes the 'Westernised' dishes like tacos and burritos, and you can't order single tacos. But other than that you can't really complain - it all tastes just like it does in Mexico, with everything freshly made, meat of decent quality and reasonable prices. In terms of Mexican fast food this is the second-best joint in town, just after Santa Maria Eastside. read more

If Chipotle is your kind of place then go there. Overpriced and lacking authentic flavor for most of the menu. The totopos were not made there and most likely purchased at a store. More like Doritos out of a bag. The guacamole was watered down and had no spices or cilantro to add flavor. They forgot to make them so we had to ask. My burrito was good size which it should be for that price. Lacked ANY flavor or spice. The salsa verde had good punch and flavor. Don't be tempted to try the Horchata drink. I don't know what was in those prefilled cups but they should call their abuelita in Mexico and get the recipe. Not even close to anything recognizable. SERVICE We went Wednesday when the tacos are 1 euro. Charged us full price. When I asked about it the owner was defensive and said we had to tell him when we ordered. He pointed to the menu that listed only a few tacos, one being a veggie which we had ordered. When I pointed that out, he said it was not the same one. Sounded a little shady. I'm sure this was once a good place but now it seems a little sad. When the marketing doesn't match the experience, there's a problem. In this case, Dorito chips, weird Horchata, deceptive advertising, overpricing,and poor service all make me think this place is going in the wrong direction. We won't be back. read more

Never trust a place that has vegan chorizo. Sausage must be made of meat, or else its just cylindrical tofu. It is morally wrong. You have been warned. But the food is tasty, and comes quickly. But the music playing while I ate was heavenly, it was like being back in the 90's. read more
