I went here for a couple of years. While my stylist was technically competent and did a good job, she had a terrible attitude. When it got to the point that I began dreading my appointments because I never knew what kind of mood she'd be in or what she'd be complaining about - her health, family, roommates - I realized it was time to make a change. WANT FIVE STAR COLOR? COME HERE. I moved to Gainesville from a big Texas town where there is an abundance of hair salons and colorists. My colorist was top of the top in Dallas, expensive and so worth it. I've always believed you never know what you are going to find if you try someplace new. I read a lot of reviews of places in Gainesville and called a few. Just from the non-interest over the phone or the difficulties in getting an appointment shut them immediately down for me. Charisma for Hair was different. Super great on the phone. Explained that I would need to do a color consultation first and that was a first. I came in and sat with Ariel for about 30 minutes. I showed her pictures of my hair with my most favorite color. She adjusted it a bit as my hair is now shorter and she knew I did not want those skunky looking highlights. The fee for the consult was $40 but it applied to the coloring fee when I came back a few days later. Not only did the color come out perfect but better than perfect. Most of my white hair (thanks, Mom) is at the crown and super porous and takes a lot of color to get it to set. Ariel colored the crap out of that stubborn white hair! :) I sat in my car and cried because I looked so pretty that day and after a very hectic three months in Florida - it was the first time like I felt like myself again. My coloring was on 10.5.21 and today is 11.27.21. I'm just now starting to see a peep of the white show up again. By my count, that's about six weeks and that's exactly how long Ariel said it would be before it started coming back in. In Dallas, this always cost about $300. It was less than half of that. I am a long time client of Ariel and I referred my brother for a hair cut who was in town visiting. i informed her that he was a scissor cut only haircut and I went with him to the appointment. Ariel did not introduce herself to him and sat him down and proceeded to pick up an electric razor with a shield and started cutting off all the hair in the back of his head! UNREAL. I told her to stop and said he is a scissor cut only and she said I know what the hair needs and proceeded on cutting all the hair way too short off the back. TERRIBLE AND UNACCEPTABLE ! The hair cut is horrible and my brother left completely angry and disgusted at the treatment he got from Ariel. I am completely unhappy with her lack of communication and professionalism with my brother especially since I have been her client for a year now. I will be canceling all my future appointments with Ariel because of this and find a more professional and considerate stylist. read more

The salon called me within 24 hours of my previous review and offered to fix my hair. This is the *best* purple I've had in my hair. Laura (Lana?) is a careful and attentive stylist. To be fair to them: the manager said the color problem was my fault, because I asked for my scalp not to be dyed. I thought this was a fair request, but they disagree. Also, after about a month. I still have vibrant purple hair. I've never been able to have this rich of a color before. But, I'm still never going back. Ever. I had one of the most uncomfortable interactions of my life. One of the stylist there (Debbie) is very racist, she said it wasn't her fault I was the "wrong nationality." She did spill dye in my eyebrow, ear, forehead, and neck, but only because she was very mad at me. After having Debbie manhandle me and swear at me (I'm not joking) I realized that I should have had the original stylist re-color my hair. overall, they fixed my hair, so I'm changing my review. I recently moved to the Gainesville area and desperately needed a haircut! I called to set up an appointment for hoping to get in sometime in the next few weeks (since every other salon was booked out) and they got me in the next day! They even called me and asked if I wanted to get in sooner. Everyone was so communicative. My stylist's name was Ariel and she was so friendly and adaptable! She was able to take my ramblings and turn them into the perfect haircut! She was very gentle with my thick, fine hair and new all the right things to help with styling at home. When I first moved to this area in 2015 I searched as carefully as I could for a stylist, as I tend to be a bit particular, especially when it comes to my hair! I Googled and found Charisma and first got hooked up with Heather. She was amazing and just what I needed! Heather listened attentively and did everything exactly as I asked. She carefully recorded all of the details to have for the next visit. About a year later, Heather went out on maternity leave and she handed me over to Kelley. Kelley was just as amazing as Heather! She knows exactly what the goal is and she hits the mark! She has been foiling, cutting and styling my hair for about 2 years now. The people were super friendly and nice, but the finished product was terrible. I went in for a simple wash and cut but ended up with a lob and the worst style of my life. I wanted an easy cut and she gave me a straight across lob with no dimension. Then when she "styled" my hair like hairdressers normally do after they cut it, it was blow dried into a frizzy mess and then curled at the ends. So I literally had wringlet curls on the bottom half of my head and super frizzy hair on the top. It seemed like she had never actually done hair styling before. I'm perfectly capable of styling my own hair, I do it for every event. But that night was my formal so I've was waiting to get it cut until the day of so my hair would look super nice and wouldn't have to worry about it. I had a bit of a bad experience here today while everyone was pleasant and nice I did not leave satisfied or with what I had in mind. I thought this would be wonderful-since our consultation went great and we were both set on what I wanted. After I saw how it came out the first time I asked her if it was possible to just bleach my whole head blond because it was not the color or style I had asked for. I was ultimately pressured into letting her have a second chance which ended up even worse. The color was correct but the color was in the most random places. I wish I would have stuck with my guns and dyed my whole head. At the end I just needed to get out of there, I don't think I will be going back but it's a shame everyone was sweet. I am really just upset because I wasted over $160 and they tried to make it look like a favor they didn't charge me to fix their first even worst attempt. This was the absolute most wonderful experience I have ever had in a salon! I was greeted with a warm smile, hot coffee and the best stylist! This was my first time in due to just recently relocating to Florida. I was nervous to see a new stylist due to having alopecia and feeling uncomfortable with it. Lori was the most professional and knowledgeable stylist Ive met. Warm, friendly and kind. I was super comfortable and enjoyed my time there.
