I unfortunately had a negative experience with my haircut and blow dry. My stylist was very sweet. However, the standard of her service was subpar and I hope she gets the training she needs to be able to achieve this skill. I asked for a trim/cut to remove the dead ends and keep long layers, I informed her I had curly frizzy hair and usually my stylist will cut it after the blowdry. She stated she preferred to cut it wet and informed me she would touch it up after the blowdry, which was fine with me. When it came to the blowdry, it was clear she was not skilled with proper technique to blow out thick curly hair. It took about 30 minutes just for one section when finally another stylist noticed and asked if she wanted help. The other stylist asked what product was in my hair and stated that probably wasn't the right product to use and offered her blow dryer. The other stylist did a section that turned out just fine. My stylist continued on with the rest of my hair, at points I had to inform her the blow dryer was burning my scalp. The end result was a frizzy mess and it was clear I was not happy with the outcome, while her and the other stylist kept trying to normalize it by saying "Oh some people's hair just resists the blow dry" "it's looking so good!" etc. I truly didn't appreciate these comments as I have obviously gotten several blowouts and know my hair can definitely be blown out frizz-free. She also did not touch up the haircut at the end as she previously said she would and I was left with choppy layers that I will have to get fixed. The most disappointing part is that I tried to contact the salon owner three times to have this fixed with literally no response. read more

Today I had a wonderful Salon experience at Mode Salon East with ROSE. She was experienced, friendly, energetic and understood how to cut semi-curly, gray, short hair styles. If you are a senior, like me, but don't want to look like one with a bad hair style, Rose is the stylist for you. I could tell right away that she would be able to help me with my "bad hair day" issues. This beautiful vintage Salon was very bright with plenty of big windows, beautiful hard wood floors and nice decor. The receptionists were very friendly. I can certainly recommend this Salon, whether you are young or elderly, I know first-hand that Rose would listen to any concerns you might have, or new styles that you would like to try. I love a nice fade, but also have slightly longer hair on top, so have a hard time finding a barber that can deal with hair vs. a salon that can do a worthy fade. Brent was the solution to my problems haha. He spent time doing a classic skin fade, and obviously is well trained in dealing with hair as he cuts/styles women's hair as well. Today was my 1st appointment at Mode Salon Spa. I just moved to the area and did some research on stylists that specialized in curls. My Google search led me here to Claudia! The salon itself is super beautiful and clean. It looks like a cute lil house! Claudia was prompt and friendly and very communicative with me about how I wanted my hair cut and styled. She was able to answer all my hair care questions & it was a pleasant hour chatting with her. She was very gentle with my hair and recommended appropriate products. What a beautiful salon and experience. This business just cemented Gainesville as a destination city for me. Lonny is a masterful designer who oversaw my stylists work and ensured I left with nothing less than perfection. I was a very difficult case, i looked like a strung out crazy florida woman from a scary headline Because of An expensive but incompetent and dishonest hair designer in Miami hair salon who destroyed my hair. I recently moved to Gainesville and I've been looking all over Florida for a good hair salon to satisfy my ever changing hair colors. I stopped by here the other day after a friend recommended me to Emily. Right when I walked in Emily was very knowledgeable about the entire process and was confident we could get my dark orange-ish blonde ombré hair to silver in one day (the last salon I went to was unable to do this). She was also very clear about the price and gave me a lot of different options to choose from. I decided on first getting a blonde balayage and then getting a full color silver on top. During the process Emily walked me through everything she was doing as well as always asking if I needed any beverages. She never let the small talk die and let me feel very comfortable. Seven hours later I walked out of the salon with my hair looking amazing. Emily is definitely the color expert of Mode East. I would recommend her to anybody who is looking for silver (she did the receptionist's silver hair too!) I am a winter visitor so I needed an interim color touch up and haircut. I have been very pleased with Claudia's treatment. She took my color recipe and converted it to the product the salon uses. She is very gentle and careful. My color and cut look great. She was able to help me with the difficulty my hair was having with the hard water at the rental house. I came in to get a cool balayage. Photos are provided. I left with splotchy orange colors all over and it was incredibly frizzy even after a wash and blow dry. They tried to claim it was only a toner issue in some places and the stylist (Robin) repeatedly tried to make corrections without mentioning the issues. I was then charged 246 dollars. See photos below. Extremely disappointed and frustrated. Manager then called and tried to explain it is because previous color and that is just not the case, my hair is completely uneven and orange. This was my first visit to Mode Salon East and it was a great experience. The salon itself is very nice and large and well kept. The staff were all very kind and knowledgeable. I went to get my balayage redone and get a haircut with Brent. He did such an amazing job! He used a ton of foils to give the color a super natural blended look which is what I asked for. Had a great first time visit, but it turns out it'll be the last. After booking through their Facebook page, I called the day of my appointment a few hours before just to confirm. The receptionist was confused and said I was nowhere in their system and that she'd need to get in touch with the manager about it. She asked if I'd like to rebook, I said sure and asked for an appointment 2 weeks exactly from when the original appointment was set up. Apparently I was put down for the 6th instead of the 7th. So again, NO appointment and no way to rebook for a day/time close to what I needed. I've spent a month trying to set up a simple appointment for a Saturday and it's been an unbelievable struggle with this salon. Won't be booking with them again unfortunately. read more

Customer service drove me away. I originally called to schedule a hair appointment for a trim with Lonnie, book a trial run for my wedding, and book for the day of the wedding plus 3 bridesmaids. The day of my trim appointment (today), I received a phone call to confirm. I decided to confirm my trial run appointment while I had the representative on the phone, which I had down 3 days later, but they had no record of it. I asked if they had record of my appointment for my wedding day. They did NOT have any booked appointment but did see a blocked hold on the schedule. I was then asked by the rep if I filled out a "wedding contract" and put down a deposit. This was the 1st time that was mentioned. The representative stated I could sign the contract & provide the deposit later today when I came for my trim. I asked how much the deposit would be so I could come to the appointment prepared, but she couldn't tell me how much and instead decided to email me the contract to look over before I arrived. She stated I will need to know how many bridesmaids are confirmed as well. This was exactly an hour before I had to be there! As I waited for the email of the contract (which I never received) I frantically contacted my matron & maids, of which they asked for a price. Duh! When I called the salon back for an average up do price I was told around $100 but still not given a deposit price. I cancelled any and all appointments at that point. I just don't have the confidence. I'm real sorry Lonnie but I need more assurance from the schedulers that your salon knows what time it is... wedding time! I hate last minute cancellations but this has got to be a solid transaction. Stressing me out today with less than 2 weeks before the wedding with no solid answers, information in advance, and secured appointments was below my expectations of average salon customer service. PS. This is my 2nd review, same rating for poor nail service over a year ago. :/ read more

What a journey. I went to Mode Salon West on July 3rd with what I knew would be a challenging color correction. The dreaded dark brown/black to platinum blonde (silver, really), request that I'm sure every colorist dreads.. especially after Kim K.. I went to Sara first and spent, no exaggeration, 11 hours (and obscene amount of $$) in her chair. When I left at midnight I was exhausted - and over it - and it looked *okay* in the glowing fluorescents of the salon, but by daybreak the next morning I was in tears. The resulting color and the texture left a lot to be desired. Through really no fault of her own, though, but I was still really upset and wearing a scarf on my head for the next few days as the salon was closed through Monday due to their hours and the holiday weekend. I spoke at length to Lonie at the West location and we agreed for me to come in yesterday, the 7th, for him to correct the color and adjust the cut to be a more flattering shape and discuss my options as far as my hair and the color transition I was hoping to achieve. There is absolutely no way I can express the gratitude for what he was able to accomplish and what he did for me. Another 7 hours in the chair and more hair trimmed off to help mitigate the damage and reveal the color we're achieving, but this time I left in HAPPY tears. He went way above and beyond to achieve a wearable color while my hair grows out and I can get rid of the darker ends, as well as gifting me treatments and services to get the integrity of my hair back on track. Sara is a GREAT stylist and this should not be considered a reflection on her ability, merely an incredibly complicated request and perhaps not necessarily the right resources at that location. The way they handled the situation represents everything a salon should strive to be - professional, creative and above all, compassionate to the client. Seeing if I can upload pictures! read more
