Charles de Gaulle Etoile Metro is in a good location, it is at the other side of the Champs-Élysées, outside the Arc De Triumph. It is again one of the few step-free lines on the Paris public transport system. It lies on the border of the 8th, 16th and 17th arrondissements of Paris and is in Fare Zone 1.
Don't confuse this with Charles de Gaulle Airport, which is both named after the former French President. I don't know if whoever added his name to the station in 1970 hated him or not, but they must have done to add his name into such a crappy station.
The station which seemed to be common in most of Paris smelled really bad, it was dark and hard to navigate, even the staff refused to help me find a lift, which meant I was walking around for a good five minutes just to get out, I was ready to give up all hopes and live on the subway. I'm not sure if it was just because I was a tourist, but the staff didn't want anything to do with me and refused to help at all.
The station has NO TOILETS, that is common on the Metro but two people seemed to think they could just go anywhere and were urinating on the platform or even somewhere else right onto the floor... gross. No wonder the station smelled so bad. This is bad enough but in a pandemic with staff turning a blind eye?
Again, this station sums up how much of a joke RATP is and it is a disgrace to the former French President and iconic location it serves at how bad this station has become. A urine riddled maze? Non-Merci. read more
