On my first day here (yesterday), I watched a man on a computer sneeze directly into his hands and continue typing, I walked by a little girl who coughed twice loudly without covering her mouth, and I accidentally dropped my change so all the coins went rolling under the bookshelves. I literally got on my hands and knees to search and collect the change--they were quarters! Today I went back and let the librarian know that I hadn't scanned anything in years. I pretended I was dumb so she would walk me through it. It worked. Very seamless experience. Prior to finishing this review, I just received an email reply from the person I'm sending this info to. That email reads: "Thanks, Tyler (my pen name). All that's missing now is a copy of a voided check." Back to the library!

The registration was easy but the girl who registered us didn't explained much and didn't say much unless asked she didn't give us any information at all. It's so nice to see I'm not the only bookie out here lol. The parking was easy and organized. The book sale itself was packed but they had so many wonderful volunteers helping to steer the crowd, it was pretty seamless. They even had volunteers walking around asking if they could take your books and put them on a table to hold for you so you could keep shopping comfortably. it was great! The library has multiple stories and was very clean and quiet. I will absolutely be back soon!!

I needed a temporary card as I was not a library card holder and they gave me a pass. How simple was this? I was impressed and grateful for the polite and courteous staff today. I know this sounds bad but there are times you need to find a quite place to focus so about 6 or 7 times per year I go to the Florence S. Shanklin library near my house. Their wifi is fast enough and I have found the place to be very quiet. Not sure when the other reviewer was there but a noisy place has not been my experience. All I can tell my friends and neighbors is go try the place, especially in the spring and fall, the have a beautiful green park surrounding the facility. Great for listening to the birds and relax. Then go in and check out some books, they have a good selection books and staff is very courteous and helpful.

Seriously, this is the loudest library I have ever been in, in my entire life. Screaming, unruly children (I thought I just picked a bad time, but this has been an issue every single time I visit), a loud interactive computer in the children's area, adults chatting animatedly on their cell phones while using the computers or browsing the shelves, random people (who are evidently library "celebrities") hovering over my computer/space trying to small talk despite my clearly non-inviting headphones and aversion to eye contact (I'm sure their intentions are good, but I really just want to be left alone), and even the staff chatting incredibly loudly with patrons about their personal lives. It's a small library. And sound travels, I get it. But NO ONE is considerate and evidently "quiet" is a foreign concept. That being said - the selection of books is decent considering it's size, and it is super easy to have books shuttled in from one of the other branch libraries using the online request system. Be aware that the internet DOES have site restrictions - certain sites like YouTube are blocked, which is a major bummer because I do a lot of film/TV research for my job. Their DVD collection has some interesting choices, not a whole lot of new titles at this branch or seemingly at any of the branches. The circulation desk staff are nice and helpful, though there is one who I have witnessed be particularly sassy (on the verge of rude) to select patrons. It's bright and clean. Books? YES Wifi? YES Thinking/Reading/Reflecting/Anything Potentially Calming or Relaxing? NO

I also brought my children here for reading activities when they were young. They have always been accommodating and friendly. I didn't fully understand how blessed our county was to have this library until I began researching my family history. The local history and genealogy room is better than any other I have ever visited. I have visited many. The ladies over this room, Leslie and Denise, are very knowledgeable of local history and are more than willing to assist you in your family research. They work hard to find additional resources to help you break through brick walls that you encounter. They host events and bring in experts and guest speakers. They are simply amazing. The other library employees are eager to assist you in making copies, finding books, and any other need you may have. This library is a great. The parking is not ideal but that is outside the control of the library staff.

I never would've imagined Concord would have such a large, nice library tucked into the upcoming…read morehustle and bustle of their downtown. It meshes perfectly with the other shops and restaurants right along the main drag. Out front the shrubs and green spaces are nicely upkept and featured a sculpture or two. In the library you can find basically anything you'd find in a Charlotte library. The bottom floor features the fiction and nonfiction stacks, plenty of computers for public use and tables for board games, puzzles and Scrabble night. Upstairs is an entire theater where, on the day I visited, a duo was playing guitar, tambourine and singing for a group of kids. Just beside the theater entrance is the children's area for books and things. Both upstairs and downstairs you can find staff at the ready to help you find what you need. It's amazing to me that more people don't take full advantage of the service and resources libraries provide entirely for free in our communities. Though I think that's changing, as this location seems to prove.

The South Park Regional had a fair collection of books and materials for the younger set, but really excelled at games and toys for engaging kids ... they even had a little cabin the kids could go in. The library itself was newish, clean and easy to get to, with available free parking ... although it is oftentimes full. Unlike some other libraries in the district, this one had more library things for kids to play with, but fewer library materials (books and puzzles). Still and all, nice library and recommended.

Libraries today aren't as quiet as they used to be, but I had plenty of space at my table to be comfortable with my book, notepad, pens, & highlighters. None of the stuffiness that you might expect from a classic library. With open stacks and lots of well organized books, this is a bright and clear space. There are a bunch of study desks along the huge windows. Most of them have power outlets nearby which is helpful because the library also has a free and unfiltered wifi. While you do need to be a resident to borrow books, no account is needed for Internet access. I found two or three books I liked, taking two of them to a comfy seat to ensure that they were what I wanted. Checkout is super easy and completely unattended. I'm very pleased with this branch! The kid area isn't that big but does seem to be about 1/3 of the library. They don't have a lot of dress up or play areas but they have a lot computers. We had a large group so we had to double up on the computers. I found some good books to check out and a few movies also. The staff was pretty helpful but even though they are on the other side of the computers they seem be a little ways away from the kids area. The restroom is on the other side of the branch away from the kids area. The branch is clean and was very quiet. It was a rainy day during our visit.
