Went yesterday for cakes, my Husband had the chocolate fudge cake with ice-cream, the cake came hot which which was nice, but it smelled a bit off and didnt taste great.like the butter had gone rank, a shame really, it was probably a nice good quality cake before, the ice-cream was good quality with vanilla, but when you pay £4.50 for cake, it should be fresh. I had an americano which was good quality and a toasted tea cake (only £1.80) which was also good. The staff do leave a lot to be desired, they ignored us when we walked in and we had to ask them to show us to a table, a lovely window seat was 'reserved' but clearly no one was using it, a shame again! They took too long to take our order, i had to call them over, they really could do with some lessons in attentiveness. The staff were wearing victorian costume which is a nice touch and the general feel of the place is good, great building, lovely chandeliers, brilliant idea, but the furniture needs updating..personally i feel the chairs are naff, why not use real victorian furniture? The sugar cube dishes were lovely and you can purchase these too, another plus point! I would recommend a visit, worth a wonder up the staircase, but dont forget your sense of humour, you'll need it with the bloody awful staff!Also have your bossy head on, someone needs to tell the staff how to do their jobs. read more

We always make an effort to look for small independent coffee shops when we visit anywhere and our visit to Truro was no exception finding Charlotte's Tea House having walked passed Nero to get there. We were met by the rudest most abrupt woman i have ever met who all but ordered us to a table. She barked a comment about the menu's at us before disappearing back behind the counter. We were both so gob smacked at her attitude to us we left without ordering and went to Nero! I think she took a look at 2 young lads and decided we did not look the part hence her attitude but maybe she should not judge in this manner because as previously stated we always try to support small independents and she lost out on drinks, breakfast and raised this poor review. The Faulty Towers of cafes ! The waitress was surly and almost threw a menu at us on arrival. We waited and waited and WAITED but no one came to take our order so we walked out as did a group immediately before us.We noticed that the cakes looked as though they were Victorian too !! read more
