If I could have avoided speaking to a human I would have. I paid $10 more for the food because they screwed up my order. Add a food order kiosk or enable app ordering or both. This is a very bog and popular service station on MA Turnpike Westbound. It has a big Gulf gas station. Saw very crowded up to few minutes of wait time. There are tesla superchargers too. The main building has food options like McDonald, Auntie Anne's, pizza and sandwich stores. There's a convenient store to get drinks, snacks and other good needed during a trip, all for decent price. Restrooms are large and somewhat well maintained. There's a massive dining area for visitors to dine-in. It was nicely decorated with flags for Memorial day weekend. read more

We visit this rest stop regularly during trips to see family in NE. My daughters grew up stopping here for a bathroom break, Auntie Anne's and taking the dog to the dog park to stretch. Can be very busy but very convenient. read more

It's decent. It was pretty empty when I stopped there in the morning on a weekday. The garbage cans outside are the kind where you don't have to touch them (just use your foot to touch the bottom part and it opens) so that was a plus. There was some garbage inside on the counters which I didn't like. And the bathrooms were so so. It has a McDonald's and gas so you can get what you need. read more

The Smiths sang about the guy who works here (This Charlton Man), and Di's former husband owns it (The Royal Prince Of Wales, AKA Prince Charlton). And it's pretty simple really. These service plazas are overpriced and obnoxious, and the fast food on offer here is usually awful for the most part. And they mark it up too, so a McDonalds or a Starbucks or whatever will set you back more than it would at any other location. The gas is anywhere from 20 to 30 cents, to even $0.40 more than it should be in the area at any given time. So I really have nothing good to say about me service plaza except that at least there are some. My review of the McDonald's in here said... The Massachusetts Turnpike is expensive and can be really annoying, like Barbie then on both counts. Gas prices at the rest plazas are sky-high and so are the food prices. You won't find regular McDonald's prices at this little rest stop in Charlton. Indeed, you will find costs are jacked up and the service is usually bad because it doesn't have to be good because they're going to sell a lot of stuff anyway. Food quality isn't great but it never really is at McDonald's these days - still if you're looking for piping hot McDonald's food this rest stop probably won't provide it. read more

I stopped here for a quick bathroom break and a few minutes off the highway to check my Facebook. As with other service plazas on the Mass Pike, this is a straight and smooth entrance with a sharp turn for parking or continue ahead for the gas station. Very easy. Large station and the men's bathroom was very well cared for. A decent variety of fast food available here including McDonald's, Auntie Anne's and D'Angelo sandwiches. Gas prices were quite reasonable especially considering the captive nature of the cars passing through. read more

Probably my favorite rest area on I-90 West it has good pizza, ronald statue, mcdonald's, a gas station, a bathroom, and a few arcade machines, I recommend coming here if your from MA, RI, if your from Connecticut then you will need to take exit 90 on I-90 E then keep right to RT-12 North near Auburn Worcester. then keep right near Springfield Boston. A bigger rest area on the interstate offering a lot of different options for food and snacks. Bathrooms are big getting people on and out quickly as they continue their travels. It keeps busy but with clear paths for people to walk by and for people to wait in line this place isn't going out of business anytime soon. read more

I don't know what I did wrong, but heading northeast toward this service area, my navigation system led me on a winding, fifteen minute back road drive that took me to the back of the service area, gated off so I couldn't drive into the gas station or restaurant area. I was able to park in what I think was the employee lot and walk through to the restroom and McDonald's. So if you're not familiar with the area and relying on your phone's directions, be aware you may not be able to fuel up here. read more

This is a good case in point about reviewing relative to a category, rather than an absolute standard. I would not be caught dead in any of the franchises represented here, which normally rate two stars from me on the rare occasions I bother to review (I confess I have to use them sometimes, don't we all) but when you're traveling the Pike, you're stuck with what's available at the service areas. (At least it's not the bad old days of HoJos and nothing but.) I travel the Pike a lot, and this is the best service plaza going eastbound. (The best going westbound is Ludlow). As of August 2013, there's a Fresh City (which unfortunately closes early in the evening, around 8) for pseudo-healthful options, a D'Angelos with decent pizza and OK subs, a Mickey D's FWIW, a McCafé for moderately express service on the coffee, and and Aunt Annie's for those that inexplicably get a jones for a Pretzel while tooling down the highway. The bathrooms are mediocre here but they're at least large and the seating areas for the restaurants are also quite spacious (probably due to the proximity to I-84 joining). The only real issue is there's a strange traffic elbow in the pike just past this service plaza area, and we've found otherwise inexplicable traffic delays seem to start there. So if the traffic is fine while you dine, you may get out to find out it's slowed. Just a word to the wise. This is also the last eastbound plaza before I495 - there's a plaza at Westboro just after the junction there westbound but no corresponding one on the south side - so it's effectively the last chance to stop before Metro Boston if you're headed all the way in. read more

When we are on the Mass Pike and are in need of stopping at a rest stop, the Charlton Service Plaza is the rest stop that we prefer. The rest stop itself is always well maintained and the bathrooms are always clean. The other great thing about this particular rest stop is the fact that they have a ton of great food, and the convenience store is always well stocked as well. The only downside to this rest stop is that since it is one of the better service plazas on the Pike, it tends to always be packed. Even though that is the case, the employees here do a great job of getting people in and out. read more

This place is horrible. Plan to wait forever for your food while you're listening to teenagers chase each other around screaming and laughing in the back. I've been here a few times since I live close by. Same thing every time. Wait forever, rude teenagers, high prices, bad food. Not to mention the parking lot for local people is so shady. It's pitch black and you have to walk through the dark a little ways to cross in front of the McDonald's drive through traffic before you even get inside to experience the hell that awaits. It was 3am, The megabus driver told us we had 20 minutes. Normally I don't want to get up and leave my seat, but the idea of a proper toilet was well FANTASTIC. It was 3am, kinda dark, but I could tell this was not the Chesapeake House. It was new and shiny. Even modern. Kinda like Mr.Spacely's place in the woods. You know lots of glass, but still some stones and bricks. The bathroom was massive. Probably 40-50, maybe more. I was bleary eyed. They were clean. Cleaner then Le Meridien. At 3am Mc Donalds and the convenience store were still open. I think they have a d'angelo's sub shop in there as well. Oh and the biggest perk....Bank of America ATM! So, if you find yourself on the mass turnpike, take it from the princess, it's clean and safe! read more

The Mass Pike is bad --- getting off the Mass Pike at the Charlton Plaza to try to navigate through throngs of people, to eat shitty food, use dirty bathrooms, only to delay your trip further and hit more traffic while merging back on to the pike, now that's awful. Sometimes it's unavoidable, or you may need to be reminded every few years, but I can promise you are NOT saving time by staying on the pike to use the service plaza. Try to plan ahead and pee or get food before or after your Mass Pike travels. This place is always a mad-house, the bathrooms (while they are large) are always icky, the food choices are gross, and gas is SO expensive. Avoid if at all possible! I made the mistake of getting off to pee, and spent the rest of my trip wishing I had waited to stop after getting off the Pike. read more

This is my least favorite plaza on the Pike, not for the facilities themselves (they're fine) but for the congestion. This is one of the busiest plazas, because it gets a lot of the traffic from people coming from I-495 and I-290 going to I-84. It also has a farm stand in the summer, making navigation a bit more challenging. Gas here will typically be a few cents a gallon higher than the plazas to the west (e.g., Ludlow). Since it's a busy plaza, hopefully the rest rooms will be well maintained. As far as dining choices, they're predictable: McDonalds, Fresh City, D'Angelo's and Papa Gino's pizza. read more

On the westbound side this past Sunday 05-Aug-2018, my family and I returned to our vehicle when we were approached by a man who claimed he forgot his wallet. I love mexican food, so I had to try the Fresh City burritos. I ordered the Big easy rice bowl with carnitas & told them to add sour cream. It was horrible. The carnitas were all dried up & inedible. They forgot to add the sour cream, so I had to go back and ask where the sour cream was. Then, they gave me such a small amount of sour cream, it didn't even help. Also there was too much bell pepper in it. After eating some of it, I threw the rest in the garbage & bought a Big Mac at McDonalds & a glass of milk. read more

Westbound rest stop, full service gas pumps, they charge 20 cents more for them to make you wait 20 minutes to have them come pump your gas. What a rip off, you guys are really helpful when it come to handicapped people. I would give a negative number but you can't go lower than a 1. Never again. read more

We stop here every year as it is easy on and off the turnpike. Large clean bathrooms (handicap drive to building door closest to gas pumps). Has a few trees we can park under and keep car cooler. Sometimes the food service areas are BUSY but the line moves along fairly quickly. Large eat in area in and some tables out. Gift shop and packaged food shop. What's with all the sun glasses kiosks? I'm not sure how you give a rest stop five stars, I didn't know that there was such a thing. This is my usual stopping point when traveling to Maine from Jersey. I hate the parking lot, people everywhere and I'm surprised more and more people haven't been mowed down in this place. There is a farmers market too, never been, sure it's nice though. It's a service plaza. Mc Donald's, Mc Cafe, Fresh City (also owned by Mc Donald's), & Pizza Hut. Something like a "fresh wraps" or whatever they're called would be nice, or a salad bar. Something that's not Mc Donald's, Mc Donald's owned, or pizza. There's a convenience store which I didn't go in so I can't elaborate. The bathrooms.... well, they would be clean except there is only 1 cleaning woman in the place for a good 50 stalls, at least. WOMEN. It is NOT acceptable to pee all of the seat and LEAVE it for the cleaning woman to clean up. Seriously. 4 of the stalls I checked had pee in the toilets & weren't flushed & one had it all over the seat & floor. It was appalling. You wouldn't go to a friend's house & pee all over their toilet seat & leave it, would you? And if the toilet doesn't flush automatically there's a button on the wall you can hit with your foot. It's not rocket science. The cleaning woman is there to mop up the occasional mess, replace toilet paper rolls, keep the soap dispensers filled, occasionally unclog a toilet. She is not there to flush the toilet for you or clean up your enormous pee mess cause you can't make it in the toilet & are too lazy & rude & spoiled to wipe up your own disgusting mess yourself. She deserves a raise!! Anyway, if there were better food selection I'd happily give this place 5 stars. read more
