It was hard not to notice how the manager treated certain staff -- making unnecessary comments about their appearance, like how they "should wear more makeup" or "dress cuter." That's not something customers should have to hear, and it felt petty and unprofessional. What stood out most was how little support employees seemed to get. I even overheard a situation where a staff member calmly tried to raise a concern, and the manager flipped the issue back on them instead of addressing it. This is the second time I have been to this place. The first time was fine and this was a disaster. They do not keep notes on color they used or apparently what they did to your hair. My hair looks aweful.....They did really bad color highlights rather than low lights. The top of my head looks like yellowish/tan. My daughter had issues with her hair color a few months ago with a different stylist and I should of thought twice about booking my appointment. I took my two kids there a couple of months ago and receive great service and the hair styling was very good. I again made an appointment to get my 15-year-old boy a haircut. The person that cut his hair the first time was gone. (I think they have a huge turnover). I did make an appointment however I was called back twice to reschedule. The appointment was 7/23 at 10am. When I arrived, they had no appointment, they rudely informed me the appointment was 7/22 at 5pm. They did not apologize for the mix up all they said was neither of us were here nor know nothing about the changes. I tried to explain because of my work schedule and Charmaine's not having any openings on my days off that I was not happy, and they needed to have a better way of communications between there staff and wow..... they told me "Not to create a disturbance" even though they were at fault and get OUT. I went to Charmaines to have a haircut because I thought it was a high end salon but they put me with a young girl named Laina that obviously has no idea what she is doing. I realize people have to learn but for the amount of money they charge I expect to have someone cut my hair that has experience. I will never go back to that salon and would advise anyone that hasn't been there before to make sure they have someone with experience cutting their hair. When I ask her how long she had been cutting hair she was like oh a couple of years which was a lie when I look on Charmaines website and it says bio coming. I loved my experience at Charmaine's! They really treat you with a welcome, so you don't feel like you're being rushed as just another cut. I came in wanting to chop off my hair. I told Caitlin (I think that was her name, sorry I forgot!) that I was donating it and just gave her a ballpark length. I gave her the artistic freedom to make it look stylish and just trusted her & the process. She was great and I was so happy with the outcome! I ended up cutting & donating over 12 inches of hair. Warning for those who have never been to a salon. I blame myself for a lot of this, but I am disappointed at the result the salon gave me color-wise and what I was charged. I took photos of Jennifer Anniston, pretty blonde hair with highlights. I ended up with an ash mousey brown with some blonde highlights and darker roots than the brown hair I came in with. My first mistake was not asking about price, I wanted to do something special for myself, I wanted this color, I saw pricing on the website and knew I'd be up for about $200. Instead I ended up at the front with a $344 dollar bill. I almost passed out. I later sat crying in my car. Don't make that mistake ladies, ask about pricing. Make sure before they do anything. I was repeatedly told hold pretty it looked at the salon. With the shiny stuff and salon lights I didn't realize the actual color until I was back in my normal world. The comments were not positive by people I knew. I was totally embarrassed and knew I couldn't go to work like this. So an 8 dollar bottle of hair color and 7 dollar box of highlights fixed it. I realized I just colored over a mess that cost me $344. I also realized my next mistake, I should have stood up for myself. I should have said wait this is darker than what I came in with and nothing like the photos I brought. I didn't, nervous and a slight bit shy I said nothing. I paid for something that looked horrible because I thought the experts would take care of me. I was wrong. Please ask questions, be confident and stand up for yourself if you don't like the color... before you leave! The people were nice, salon was pretty. But I will never go back nor recommend. I basically gave them a blank check and ended up unhappy. Can't image if I'd have given them a budget. :( read more

New to the area, I looked to Yelp for a salon. I worked for an upscale salon in Florida, and wanted that same experience. Out of 20 salons near me, only 3 had reviews...Charmaine's had 10 (all high marks) & the other 2 had 1 each. My daughter, Kaitie, got a cut with Caitie. I got highlights and a cut with Sam. These ladies did a fantastic job on both of us, but the experience was made whole by being spoken to by almost every employee. They are so friendly, and truly kind women. It was a wonderful experience, and the pricing is very reasonable. If you want to be treated like a friend, and look amazing when you leave, you need to go to Charmaine's. read more

Friendly, welcoming, helpful....an overall relaxing & positive experience. I cannot say enough about the professionalism displayed by all of the salon staff. They made sure they knew exactly what I wanted in color & cut, showing me numerous images until we found the perfect one. My color is amazing! Jena is an extremely skilled stylist. I had my first appointment with this salon last night. From the get go the salon was clean and friendly with a lot of space and seating. Going in I had an idea of what I wanted done but was not 100% on how it could be executed. Leslie was awesome from the quick consult on what I wanted to accomplish (volume and movement) to styling tips and product advice. I put the cut in her hands and was not disappointed. She not only gave me a fresh cut but she also advised on adding a bang while still taking into account my thoughts on length and the upcoming wedding that I am in and how a bang could be pinned depending on my style for that day. I will definitely be going back to Charmaine's from now on and requesting Leslie because she was not only very nice but she took the time to make the cut perfect. read more

I have had many haircuts in my life, but I will have to say this one was the most uncomfortable by far. I was scheduled to see Leah, I was told she knows all about short hair. My previous stylist is a master stylist. She has been a M.S. For over 17 years, has been a teacher, received recognitions, she is very very good at her craft. She cuts after styling, so my hair always lays nice and styles well. So after coming to GA for a few months, I needed to find a new stylist. Leah right off the bat seemed uptight that I was not going to be a permanent client. My hair is short. My last cut was 5 weeks ago, so it is super easy to follow where the last cuts were and to repeat it. I told her I wanted to keep my style, the date it was cut, and just to trim it up just like it is. So she started pulling up sections of hair and telling me how my last stylist did this part wrong, and that part wrong and I couldn't style it now because of what was done to my hair. Woa...... My hair was fine. Always easy to style. It was not styling as well this week because it was growing out....that happens. So she began to chop my hair and go beyond the previous cut lines :( When she asked me if I wanted more off and I again told her I just want to keep my last cut, I like my hair, she rolled her eyes at me and gave me the teenager face....the one where you are stupid and "whatever". She asked me what products I use....I told her spray volumizer, hair putty, I have good products. Well not according to Leah. She cut my hair, actually over cut my hair when it was dirty dry, and then washed it. After, I'm sitting in the wash chair and she asks what style product do I want in my hair, so I told her volume spray. She tells me her Mousse is better. And she went on and on about hers versus my knowledge of products. So I just looked at her and said to just use whatever, since I don't have a say so. She would ask me a question about one thing I like about my hair, or how I felt about a technique, and then she would strike me down with her knowledge and my stylist didn't do my hair well..... So miss priss turned me away from the mirror and cut more off the sides by my ears, because she knows way more about my hair and my style than I do, uh no she doesn't. She chopped more off the top sides also. Then on went the mousse and she kept me turned away from the mirror as she blew my hair dry. She didn't style my hair, she blew it out like a man's cut. Then she wants to know if I want hairspray. I declined. She told me I could go back to my last stylist. Excuse me? I talked to the front desk woman but a manager never called me. No lie, this was like a supercuts session. She is not a master of the craft. Master stylists do not treat you like that. You have input about your hair, the style. If I wanted a "leah special" I would have asked What you did to me was over chop hair above my ears so it now bumps out higher up. Looks pathetic. Then you overcut the sides I just asked for the slight amount off of, so now the top is poofy and it doesn't look feminine. And the bang area, had you cut that right it would lay nice. But you didn't. Thanks for making alot more work for me every day to fix your mistakes as best as I can until it grows out. You are unprofessional, with a bad attitude. If you make everyone feel bad about who cut their hair last, what products they use, or they know nothing, you my dear will be in a new career soon. Because you suck at this. read more

I went to Charmaine's for the first time today. Ashley was my stylist. I had fried hair with gray coming in all over. Fed up with constant box coloring that didn't last, I went to Ashley and told her I wanted to go gradual full on salt and pepper gray hair. She explained to me that it would probably be a 3 step process. She then explained to me the procedure she was doing every step of the way. I also decided to get a style and haircut. I had an idea of what I wanted but discussed it with Ashley and just let her go with it. She was AMAZING! My color is gorgeous and the cut is perfect for me. One of the most amazing salons in and around the douglasville area. Sweet & kind staff all around. Their stylists are one of a kind and very professional but they get to know you and things you like. They're very attentive to you and your needs. Caitie has been doing my hair since I was a junior in high school. With any new color, new style or new cut I was doing she made me feel 100% confident in my choices. Even moving 600 miles away to Louisiana I would come home to visit and HAD to make an appointment with Caitie when I came in town. That's how awesome she is. One of the things I find most important about a Hair Salon is the friendliness of the staff. The people here are great. They call you 2 days before your appointment to remind you of it. I am picky about everything, especially my hair, but Charmaine's does not disappoint! I go regularly to Sam, but have also used Jenna, and they have both consistently been professional, thorough and cared about how I felt about my hair. Just a note- I have BIG, FRIZZY and thick hair that can be challenging and exhausting, but they NEVER make me feel that way when they are working on me. I have had stylists in the past comment again and again about how much hair I have and how long it takes to cut, style, blow dry, etc. I knew they didn't really want to do my hair, but I have never felt that way Charmaine's. If you are like me, sometimes you feel insecure about walking into a salon like you are being judged or such. Again, Charmaine's is the standout. They are welcoming and down to earth. Last time I got my hair done at this place we were required to wear mask in which I was I have no problem complying to the rules well the lady doing my hair got hair dye all over my mask all over my face so I was in the corner trying to get this stuff off my face which I remove my mask mind you everybody was about 6 feet away for me if not more so I went and sat down at the table where I was still social distancing in one of the girls came and in a very condescending manner squatted down to my level and said we are required to wear a mask in here so I went to explain to her why I wasn't wearing a mask due to it having hair dye all over it and instead of her offering to get me a new one she told me that I could go outside and let my hair develop there She was very rude she laughed when I told her I would just never come back here again and went back to her client yes that's right she was not even doing my hair but her more I spoke to the owner about the situation and she explained to me that the girl had had two people pass away from Covid which is understandable but I feel like the proper thing for her to do was to just get me another mask and could've just heard me out from the issue that I was having from getting black hair dye on my face and if you use black hair dye then you know that it is hard to get off your face she was not very empathetic at all well I didn't make another appointment to see the girl that was doing my hair when the owner decides to call me to remind me to wear a mask and that I don't need to be leaving the property or going outside while my hair is processing . Furthermore there was another person that called me from Charmaines during the time I was waiting for the owner to call me back to call to talk to me about wearing a mask and tell me the rules I asked was there some kind of joke because I asked for the owner to call me back about an issue with one of her employees I know with a mask rules are I wear them when I go out in public consistently this place has become very unprofessional and the people there are very ugly and do not treat their clients with respect I do not recommend this place at all read more
